Here's the next in the series called the Foosball Radio Patreon Profile. From Boise, Idaho, Michael Veit chats about his life in foosball.
[00:00:01] The following is a presentation of Foosball Radio.
[00:00:06] Since establishing the Foosball Patreon page, you have shown your kind generosity, helping
[00:00:12] Foosball Radio to continue.
[00:00:14] Now we present to you the Foosball Radio Patreon profile.
[00:00:19] Time to find out more about you.
[00:00:22] Hey there, it's Tom Robinson.
[00:00:24] Welcome once again to a Foosball Radio Patreon profile.
[00:00:29] This time our guest is our good friend Michael Veit.
[00:00:33] Michael, welcome to Foosball Radio Patreon profile.
[00:00:38] Thank you first of all for being a Patreon and thanks for being here today.
[00:00:41] Yeah, well I'm glad to be here and I want to be a Patreon.
[00:00:46] I hope thousands of people sign up and become Patreons.
[00:00:50] From your lips to God's ears.
[00:00:53] That wouldn't that be nice.
[00:00:56] Hey listen, we've been getting to know each other a bit on the road.
[00:01:00] I think the first time we met was in Michigan State this last year.
[00:01:04] Yep, I think so.
[00:01:06] We might have met once before that but yes, we talked a good bit there.
[00:01:10] And you're in Boise, Idaho today.
[00:01:12] What's the weather like?
[00:01:14] It is a little bit cloudy.
[00:01:17] In the spring in Idaho, the weather can change quite a bit.
[00:01:22] A little bit cool, a little bit warm windy.
[00:01:25] Today it's a little bit windy and drippy.
[00:01:27] Normally, it's quite nice and sunny and it has been very mild here lately so it's nice.
[00:01:32] My tulips are popping up about six inches.
[00:01:35] Tulips are popping up.
[00:01:37] You guys are cold.
[00:01:38] Better not tell my wife because she's a gardener.
[00:01:40] In fact, she's in Philadelphia this weekend at a garden show.
[00:01:44] But yeah, the tulips, that must be nice.
[00:01:48] So have you lived in Boise for a long time?
[00:01:51] Yeah, we definitely call this home.
[00:01:54] We've been here coming up on 26 years.
[00:01:56] This summer it will be 26 years.
[00:01:58] 26, wow, that's fantastic.
[00:02:00] I worked with Hewlett Packer.
[00:02:01] That's what moved me.
[00:02:02] I moved here to work with Hewlett Packer as an electrical engineer by training but
[00:02:07] I worked in the software industry mostly.
[00:02:09] No kidding.
[00:02:10] Ended up being a system engineer is the last part of it.
[00:02:12] So an engineer for your entire life?
[00:02:18] I was in the military for a while earlier on and then I went into some avion, electronic
[00:02:23] stuff and yeah, my whole working career.
[00:02:26] Gotcha, very nice.
[00:02:27] What branch of the military?
[00:02:28] Air Force.
[00:02:29] US Air Force.
[00:02:30] I call it the Boy Scouts because it was not that challenging.
[00:02:34] There was military discipline and such but not like some people you know that have
[00:02:41] worked in Vietnam and those kinds of things.
[00:02:43] My experience was wonderful.
[00:02:44] It wasn't challenging in those kinds of ways.
[00:02:48] Well thank you for your service regardless.
[00:02:52] So we're here today to talk about you and of course this Patreon profile is an idea that
[00:02:57] we came up with recently to really highlight the people that are supporting us and keeping
[00:03:02] us alive here at Foosball Radio.
[00:03:05] Again we really appreciate your help but first of all let's take it back.
[00:03:09] Let's go back to the time that you as a foosball player became a foosball player.
[00:03:15] What was that like?
[00:03:17] How old were you and what was the first table you ever saw?
[00:03:21] I was probably about 14 or so.
[00:03:24] Maybe 13 or 14.
[00:03:25] We had a little teen center.
[00:03:26] I lived in a tiny little town of about 500 people in northern Minnesota.
[00:03:30] There was a teen center just literally it was 100 yards from my house and so they
[00:03:36] had a foosball table there and we played a little bit there but really maybe a year
[00:03:41] or so after that we started playing.
[00:03:43] It was a local restaurant and a bar that had foosball tables and we would be playing
[00:03:47] on those a lot.
[00:03:49] So that was kind of my early start.
[00:03:51] What kind of tables were those?
[00:03:55] They were the tournament soccer.
[00:03:57] We had the tournament soccer one for a couple years and then they moved us I don't know
[00:04:01] what they're called.
[00:04:02] We call them the clown tables with the yellow and the red guys on them.
[00:04:06] We had those for a while.
[00:04:08] The clown table.
[00:04:10] Is that what they are?
[00:04:11] I don't know what brand they are.
[00:04:12] Yeah I'm not sure.
[00:04:14] Yellow and red.
[00:04:15] Yellow guys and red guys.
[00:04:17] Yeah I'd have to think about that.
[00:04:19] Maybe a Roberto sport or something like that it sounds like.
[00:04:21] Anyways yeah it was the tournament soccer.
[00:04:25] I ended up getting one at home.
[00:04:26] I didn't use it at home that much but we played in the local venue, local place.
[00:04:30] Small town but we'd have 10 or 12 people sitting there with quarters.
[00:04:34] Yeah.
[00:04:35] Playing cards while you're waiting for your turn to play.
[00:04:38] That's how I got my start.
[00:04:39] That's great.
[00:04:40] Well and now there must have been a time when you said hey you know I'm going
[00:04:46] to be a I'm going to be a foosball player and go out there and see what I can do against
[00:04:50] other people.
[00:04:51] When did that happen?
[00:04:52] I did a little bit of that in high school.
[00:04:56] Not much because I didn't even know that foosball in Minneapolis was like huge.
[00:05:01] Huge yeah.
[00:05:02] I mean like you know I graduated in high school in 78 and I could have went to
[00:05:05] Minneapolis.
[00:05:06] There's a huge foosball going on.
[00:05:07] I did not even know that.
[00:05:08] I was a small town way out in the country but you know so I had no clue about this
[00:05:12] stuff.
[00:05:14] I got away from foosball until 2006.
[00:05:19] When I in Boise and so you know like 18 or 20 some year 20 some year sabbatical
[00:05:26] and then in 2006 I discovered foosball and I found a website and said they play
[00:05:33] foosball every week.
[00:05:34] I went what?
[00:05:35] You got to be kidding me.
[00:05:37] I talked to Tim Sistner's and he goes yeah we play and I said man wow I went
[00:05:42] down there and played and it's like I could tell that they played very differently
[00:05:45] than I did.
[00:05:46] You know I was like chipping on the five bar but I went and played and went
[00:05:51] down there and I was kind of well this is a bar.
[00:05:53] I didn't go to bars you know.
[00:05:55] Right.
[00:05:56] Raise the kids and family and all that stuff.
[00:05:58] Hey and when I got the ball and I shot a long pull shot and you know people
[00:06:03] went oh you got a reasonable pull shot you know.
[00:06:05] So that was my start in 2006.
[00:06:08] Wow.
[00:06:09] It's amazing how many stories I've heard like yours where there was a time you
[00:06:14] know in your youth where you're really getting into foosball and you're
[00:06:17] playing and playing and then life happens.
[00:06:19] You know you get a life and you go out into the world and you do the
[00:06:22] things you do when it comes to having work and family and all and then
[00:06:26] suddenly something happens and it foosball somehow re-emerges in your
[00:06:32] life your life journey and suddenly you're addicted right.
[00:06:39] Give me I know that you've been doing a lot of winning lately.
[00:06:42] Let's just give us a quick shall we say look back at the kind of winning
[00:06:48] you've been doing of late.
[00:06:51] Yeah well I started touring a bit more about a year and a half ago
[00:06:57] and then I retired in April last year so nice my retiring in April kind
[00:07:03] of I looked at things like well I have I really have a few years I'm 63.
[00:07:10] Really have a couple few years to be competitive and and I and so I
[00:07:14] I learned some things in high school and sports and athletics that you
[00:07:17] know you only get some things you only get one chance in life at.
[00:07:22] And I kind of said OK I was a semi pro back in you know back in
[00:07:25] like 2012 I worked my way through six years or so and then but you
[00:07:29] know raising the family busy at my work and involved in my church a
[00:07:33] lot a lot of those things you know it's just like you know I go to
[00:07:37] one tournament year but the last year and a half I the winnings
[00:07:40] I've had of late most recently I went to Vancouver I went up
[00:07:45] there and I got this most winnings I ever had any event and
[00:07:49] it was like 80 people or so and I got three first place.
[00:07:54] Got first place in senior singles which is probably my main
[00:07:56] event I think yes and then and then I got.
[00:08:01] First place in expert doubles wow and I got first place in senior
[00:08:05] doubles but you know I was playing with Rich Foster he's a great
[00:08:09] player one of the best players in the northwest so you know kind
[00:08:12] of riding his coattails but then we got third in open doubles
[00:08:16] and one point away from how you're playing for the finals so
[00:08:19] I got three firsts and one second that's my biggest that was
[00:08:22] kind of like a surreal moment me looking as holding my plaques
[00:08:26] and I kind of thought man I'm you know like in a cloud looking
[00:08:30] down at somebody else over there and they're holding those
[00:08:32] things and it's a real look and looked at that's me.
[00:08:35] So that was kind of that was one of the that and then
[00:08:38] looking backwards back I've won in the last like nine
[00:08:42] months or a year.
[00:08:44] I won I won a bigger event at it was a big monster draw
[00:08:50] 32 some people won that it won senior doubles that was a
[00:08:54] big had a double dip at money ball a year ago and that was
[00:08:57] really wow crazy yeah crazy that was my biggest win ever I
[00:09:02] think notable when yes a double dip two amateurs beating
[00:09:05] two pro players they are they had been both for masters
[00:09:08] and other pros you know they got they got some they got
[00:09:12] some power there and then and the other big no I won I
[00:09:16] guess I took a couple seconds in amateur singles and and
[00:09:23] but big biggest thing for me was I went to to the
[00:09:28] world's last year first time yes went to worlds and you
[00:09:33] know I hadn't put particularly a lot of time
[00:09:35] into into playing as such and I'm building up building
[00:09:38] turning my hobby football into a business too so yes I'm
[00:09:41] busy doing that and so that's taking a lot of my
[00:09:43] time yeah and but and that's going okay but anyways
[00:09:47] I went to worlds and I okay I felt it we prepared
[00:09:49] and played and you know put myself in the place to to
[00:09:54] to be able to do well and and I kind of thought well
[00:09:58] you know one of my dreams my dreams like what is
[00:10:00] my dream like my dream is I want to be able to
[00:10:02] be pro and by the end of 2025 that's my goal
[00:10:06] right nice high level and sure but then I went
[00:10:09] so I'm gonna worlds never been there I wanted
[00:10:11] to see this be exposed to it and I knew about
[00:10:14] this stuff this this World Cup team I go okay yeah
[00:10:17] you got to go like be popular be known be
[00:10:20] invited and win a lot of things well I haven't
[00:10:22] traveled enough I've only went to like three or
[00:10:24] tournaments or four tournaments okay and but
[00:10:27] anyways I played in events and I and I and I
[00:10:31] played in a senior place in a couple of events
[00:10:34] in there second couple seconds and I got second
[00:10:37] in senior senior singles and I and I and so I'm
[00:10:40] asking people about this World Cup thing and
[00:10:42] they will maybe if I play a lot and become a
[00:10:45] pro maybe I'll maybe I could get invited to the
[00:10:47] World Cup team I don't know that be great and
[00:10:49] then somebody somebody told me and they said
[00:10:52] well hey if you if you win if you win senior
[00:10:55] senior senior singles you go to World Cup I
[00:10:59] go what really I didn't know that I'm so
[00:11:03] naive you know and then the next day
[00:11:05] somebody told me that I think Reese Reeves I
[00:11:08] think it is he's from England he beat me
[00:11:10] and they said well Reese he's from the he's
[00:11:12] from the United Kingdom right yes and so
[00:11:15] you're the highest ranking player in in in
[00:11:18] senior super senior super senior singles so
[00:11:22] you're going to World Cup I was like wow
[00:11:24] pinch me you know pinch me yeah yeah so I'm
[00:11:28] not on the World Cup team team but I am I'm
[00:11:31] going to World Cup I'm going to say USA
[00:11:33] and representing that's that's fantastic
[00:11:36] yeah so that's my biggest win yeah well
[00:11:39] congratulations on that by the way thank
[00:11:42] you that's really awesome yeah it's so
[00:11:44] interesting that this this thing we call
[00:11:47] foosball you know the sport it really
[00:11:50] doesn't matter you know your gender it
[00:11:53] doesn't matter your physical prowess
[00:11:55] necessarily it doesn't matter your age you
[00:11:59] can still play this at a high level
[00:12:01] regardless I mean yeah look at someone
[00:12:04] like Todd LaFredo I mean clearly he's been
[00:12:08] at the top of the sport for what four
[00:12:11] decades five decades now I mean he's
[00:12:13] incredible he's a legend yeah astounding
[00:12:15] but it's proof positive that if you if
[00:12:17] you have determination and you know well
[00:12:21] the ability to stand up that you can
[00:12:25] excel yeah I kind of think that you
[00:12:28] know I like to say foosball is a
[00:12:30] lifetime sport in many ways right it
[00:12:32] can be and and I used to call a
[00:12:34] game a game of sport but you know
[00:12:36] the heart rate your blood pressure
[00:12:37] sweating work and so there's yeah
[00:12:40] there's a lot of it there as well yeah
[00:12:42] but you know I think that you know
[00:12:43] there's like what four or five major
[00:12:45] vectors you know you can just be big
[00:12:46] and strong mm-hmm fast young guys
[00:12:48] right but you can be smart and more
[00:12:50] experienced and you can have a
[00:12:53] technique and skill and you can have
[00:12:55] oh yeah trickery you know yep and
[00:12:57] different techniques you know so you
[00:12:58] can you can modify your game and you
[00:13:00] know if you sometimes you have to
[00:13:02] win different ways and you know
[00:13:03] sometimes you let that young guy speed
[00:13:06] give you that quick straight you know
[00:13:08] let them use their speed right it's
[00:13:10] exactly trickery yeah we're we're
[00:13:13] always looking for new ways now you
[00:13:15] must have a pretty good local scene
[00:13:17] where you're playing I mean I guess
[00:13:19] you're going to be playing today in
[00:13:20] fact what's what's your local scene
[00:13:21] I am I am playing today we have
[00:13:23] what we call our super Saturday of
[00:13:25] a monthly super Saturday mm-hmm and
[00:13:27] we have on our weeklies we have
[00:13:29] weeklies on Tuesday nights and boys
[00:13:31] you come on down to cues okay if you
[00:13:33] come through Boise come on down
[00:13:35] everybody anyways so we have on our
[00:13:38] weeklies we have probably about 10
[00:13:39] or so show up on a Tuesday night and
[00:13:42] then on our monthly ones you know
[00:13:44] we'll get maybe like 14 or 16 sometimes
[00:13:48] 12 you know it depends on yes depends
[00:13:50] on the day you know people aren't
[00:13:52] traveling so that's but you know
[00:13:53] really we probably have about and
[00:13:55] our 12 that are quite active we'll
[00:13:57] have about a dozen players again
[00:13:59] going to Hall of Fame and we have
[00:14:01] some nice attire Boise foosball
[00:14:03] gear and people go wow love that
[00:14:05] there's a lot of Boise players
[00:14:06] yeah because we have some swag in
[00:14:08] our on our on our clothing so that's
[00:14:11] what it looks like but now we've had a
[00:14:13] couple people recently move into the
[00:14:14] area last couple years and they like
[00:14:16] oh let's play on the third Saturday
[00:14:18] too so and now leading up to to to
[00:14:22] Hall of Fame is like seems like it's
[00:14:23] every Saturday now yeah so yeah a
[00:14:25] couple months so so who you're
[00:14:27] playing with at the Hall of Fame by
[00:14:28] the way I'm Hall of Fame I'm playing
[00:14:32] with Bob Barnett in the senior
[00:14:35] senior doubles cool hoping to qualify
[00:14:38] for for senior doubles there.
[00:14:42] Man I'm playing with five or six
[00:14:43] different people at sea.
[00:14:45] I'm playing with Phil McCarthy
[00:14:48] in amateur doubles.
[00:14:51] OK hoping to hoping to flat out
[00:14:54] win that I'm like armless and hard
[00:14:56] for that.
[00:14:57] I'm right on the edge of being
[00:14:59] an expert in amateur doubles
[00:15:02] and I am I am expert in amateur
[00:15:04] singles so OK we made a good run
[00:15:06] at last year and I think I think
[00:15:08] we could.
[00:15:09] Those are kind of the my biggest
[00:15:11] events I'm playing with Bob Cassidy
[00:15:12] one of our local players he's a
[00:15:13] good strong player.
[00:15:15] Nice.
[00:15:16] I think we're playing in two events
[00:15:17] probably pro and maybe maybe open
[00:15:21] expert.
[00:15:22] I have like so many of tournaments
[00:15:24] 14 of them lined up I can't
[00:15:25] remember him playing with who
[00:15:27] but my wife's my wife's going to
[00:15:28] be traveling I'll be playing
[00:15:30] expert doubles with her she's
[00:15:31] starting to play she's like really
[00:15:33] she says hey you know my
[00:15:36] wife's going to be playing
[00:15:37] professional.
[00:15:38] She's like you know you've got a
[00:15:40] dream and and yeah she says OK
[00:15:44] let's go chase a dream.
[00:15:46] That's awesome man that's
[00:15:47] that's fantastic.
[00:15:48] That's beautiful.
[00:15:49] She's a beautiful soul.
[00:15:50] This is this is a family sport
[00:15:53] you know people can can enjoy
[00:15:55] it again at any age or at any
[00:15:57] stage of life and and yeah you
[00:16:00] know husbands and wives play
[00:16:01] together.
[00:16:02] I think there's there's quite a
[00:16:03] few of them out there in fact
[00:16:04] bruise you know Terry and
[00:16:06] Nikesha but you know these are
[00:16:08] these are this again and we've
[00:16:12] talked to a lot of women of
[00:16:14] course on foosball radio who
[00:16:15] play foosball and they're
[00:16:16] fierce.
[00:16:17] You know some of these ladies
[00:16:18] that are out there.
[00:16:19] Wow.
[00:16:20] Yeah I wouldn't want to have
[00:16:22] to face it.
[00:16:23] I played a few of them cause
[00:16:25] few of the Colorado ladies
[00:16:26] are like wow.
[00:16:27] These girls are good.
[00:16:28] Oh yeah.
[00:16:29] Oh yeah.
[00:16:30] And so so I wish your wife
[00:16:32] luck man I hope that she
[00:16:33] enjoys her time in the sport
[00:16:35] and yeah you know you're just
[00:16:38] going to have to train her
[00:16:38] right.
[00:16:39] That's all.
[00:16:41] Yeah I try to get some other
[00:16:43] people who do some of that
[00:16:43] training but yeah I do I need
[00:16:45] to spend time together but and
[00:16:47] people here are gracious.
[00:16:49] John Howard is one of the
[00:16:50] stronger players here in our
[00:16:51] area.
[00:16:52] OK.
[00:16:52] He he will teach things and
[00:16:54] and there's three or four
[00:16:55] people that are good.
[00:16:56] You know I feel that they're
[00:16:57] at my level.
[00:16:58] We've been about four or five
[00:17:01] at my level but I to move
[00:17:03] Boise foosball ahead I say
[00:17:04] that you know the only way I
[00:17:05] can do it right now is Rick
[00:17:07] Martin has passed away.
[00:17:08] Right.
[00:17:09] Right.
[00:17:09] 2019.
[00:17:10] So many people look at him as
[00:17:11] being kind of their mentor
[00:17:13] and I do too.
[00:17:14] Yes.
[00:17:14] But the only way I can move
[00:17:16] Boise foosball forward is
[00:17:17] like OK become a pro.
[00:17:20] Yeah yeah.
[00:17:21] Have that goal.
[00:17:22] You become the pro and you
[00:17:23] do it.
[00:17:24] And then I told Jim Burns that
[00:17:25] a while ago about a year ago
[00:17:26] I said OK Jim you want to
[00:17:27] move your league your league
[00:17:29] then you get yourself
[00:17:31] better.
[00:17:31] You become expert.
[00:17:33] You become a pro.
[00:17:34] Yes.
[00:17:34] And so that's what that's
[00:17:36] what I'm trying to do for
[00:17:37] Boise foosball.
[00:17:38] That's great.
[00:17:39] Amongst the things.
[00:17:39] Yeah that's fantastic.
[00:17:41] So I know you're an
[00:17:43] engineer by trade.
[00:17:44] You've been you've been
[00:17:45] engineer your entire life
[00:17:46] now you're applying your
[00:17:47] engineering skills to
[00:17:48] foosball.
[00:17:49] Tell us about what you've
[00:17:51] been doing when it comes
[00:17:53] to things like.
[00:17:54] Well I understand that
[00:17:55] you're you're into
[00:17:57] engineering foosballs
[00:17:59] is that something you like to
[00:18:00] talk about.
[00:18:02] Yeah I could talk a lot.
[00:18:04] I'll try to keep it brief.
[00:18:05] So I've I've reconditioned
[00:18:08] foosballs for a good while
[00:18:10] as many people have.
[00:18:11] And I think many people can
[00:18:12] recondition them.
[00:18:13] They do OK.
[00:18:15] But one of the innovations
[00:18:16] I had come up just
[00:18:17] recently is I you
[00:18:19] know I used to take the
[00:18:19] ball and I drop it off
[00:18:20] the three bar.
[00:18:22] See how far it rolls
[00:18:23] because rolling resistance is
[00:18:24] what it is right.
[00:18:25] Yes.
[00:18:26] People people people in food
[00:18:27] while they say how fast is
[00:18:29] the ball but it's rolling
[00:18:30] resistance.
[00:18:30] OK.
[00:18:31] And so then I thought well
[00:18:32] I need this a little more
[00:18:32] accurate because.
[00:18:33] And so I made this thing
[00:18:34] called the stimp meter.
[00:18:36] It's one of the things of
[00:18:37] an innovation and it's
[00:18:39] basically a little just a
[00:18:40] little.
[00:18:40] Oh I got one here.
[00:18:42] It's this thing here.
[00:18:43] It's it's it's about like
[00:18:44] this and you sit on the
[00:18:45] back wall and you put the
[00:18:46] ball on here.
[00:18:47] I got a ball.
[00:18:48] You put a ball in there
[00:18:49] on the back wall and you
[00:18:50] let it roll and it rolls
[00:18:51] down.
[00:18:51] It's that it's at an angle
[00:18:52] right.
[00:18:53] Yeah.
[00:18:53] OK.
[00:18:54] And so anyways it gives you
[00:18:55] a certain speed on the ball
[00:18:56] and then you can see a
[00:18:58] new a good ball a new ball
[00:19:00] to stop kind of within
[00:19:01] reach of the three bar.
[00:19:02] Oh that's that's what goes
[00:19:04] out.
[00:19:04] And I made I made a scale
[00:19:06] scale zero to four
[00:19:08] four point O's being the
[00:19:10] slowest ball you would get.
[00:19:12] And so I've done that
[00:19:13] and then but I've been
[00:19:14] refurbishing and so I
[00:19:15] kind of like put this on
[00:19:17] steroids and turn my
[00:19:19] engineering prowess into it.
[00:19:21] And so right now in fact
[00:19:24] I have I am shipping out
[00:19:25] on Monday.
[00:19:27] I'm shipping out nine
[00:19:29] hundred and fifty balls
[00:19:30] to wow nine
[00:19:31] hundred and fifty nine
[00:19:33] hundred and fifty balls.
[00:19:34] That's astounding.
[00:19:35] I could list their names
[00:19:36] but I'm not sure they
[00:19:37] want their names so
[00:19:38] I won't do that.
[00:19:39] But about five people
[00:19:40] five people and
[00:19:42] and what I'm doing is
[00:19:44] I am using a paint
[00:19:45] shaker to
[00:19:46] recondition the foosball
[00:19:47] balls.
[00:19:48] Got it.
[00:19:48] And I'm lining that
[00:19:50] appropriately.
[00:19:50] It's very kind of
[00:19:52] there's a lot of process
[00:19:53] involved.
[00:19:54] Yes.
[00:19:54] And one of the challenges
[00:19:55] I get is that
[00:19:57] balls that I get are
[00:19:59] you know people tornado
[00:20:00] says there's pink balls
[00:20:02] and there's red balls
[00:20:03] the same.
[00:20:04] That's what they say.
[00:20:05] OK.
[00:20:05] And they say they
[00:20:07] haven't changed over time.
[00:20:08] But when I get
[00:20:10] balls from people I get
[00:20:11] like
[00:20:13] I get like three different
[00:20:14] kinds of pink balls
[00:20:15] and I get like about five
[00:20:16] different kinds of red
[00:20:17] balls.
[00:20:17] And so I sort them all out
[00:20:19] clean them well
[00:20:20] and use a paint
[00:20:22] shaker for cleaning him
[00:20:22] too.
[00:20:23] If OK.
[00:20:24] If there's one thing
[00:20:25] probably most unique
[00:20:27] about my process
[00:20:28] is that I measure
[00:20:29] the balls
[00:20:30] to see how good they are
[00:20:31] because people say
[00:20:31] well I recondition them
[00:20:32] and they're good.
[00:20:34] Well how good.
[00:20:34] Yeah.
[00:20:35] Good or they good good
[00:20:37] or they're really good
[00:20:37] or just kind of good
[00:20:38] or just kind of average.
[00:20:40] So if you check the
[00:20:40] rolling speed
[00:20:42] you can tell at least
[00:20:44] how fast they are right.
[00:20:45] So
[00:20:46] anyways I
[00:20:47] I wash them in a
[00:20:48] paint shaker with some
[00:20:50] green billow pads
[00:20:51] and
[00:20:52] who don't soap
[00:20:52] and they come out like
[00:20:54] crystal really
[00:20:55] really really clean.
[00:20:57] OK almost will take off
[00:20:58] a black magic marker
[00:20:59] on there.
[00:21:00] So it's it's that clean
[00:21:03] and then I recondition
[00:21:04] them and I and I
[00:21:05] when I clean them
[00:21:06] I categorize the ones
[00:21:07] that are
[00:21:09] so when you get
[00:21:09] I sell them in sets
[00:21:11] of 10
[00:21:12] and balls so
[00:21:13] you wouldn't get like
[00:21:14] a light red ball
[00:21:15] and a dark red ball
[00:21:17] to get a set of 10
[00:21:18] they're all going to be
[00:21:19] light red
[00:21:20] OK all dark red
[00:21:21] right.
[00:21:22] And so those are kind of
[00:21:23] some of the
[00:21:24] and kind of there's a red pink
[00:21:25] those kind of three
[00:21:26] different kinds of
[00:21:26] of red balls
[00:21:27] in my opinion.
[00:21:28] Yeah yeah.
[00:21:29] And so I try to sell
[00:21:30] somebody when they sell
[00:21:31] them balls they get
[00:21:31] all the same type
[00:21:33] and I do things like
[00:21:34] I can geek out on
[00:21:35] the engineering stuff
[00:21:36] like the
[00:21:38] hardness of the ball
[00:21:39] is a durometer D
[00:21:41] and the balls
[00:21:41] the balls that are
[00:21:42] a 62 to 64
[00:21:43] they're too hard
[00:21:44] they don't condition
[00:21:45] very well.
[00:21:45] OK.
[00:21:46] They don't their abrasion
[00:21:47] their abrasion
[00:21:49] attribute is different
[00:21:50] and so
[00:21:51] I check also the
[00:21:52] coefficient of
[00:21:54] restitution
[00:21:55] not all of them
[00:21:56] but I found out
[00:21:57] that those harder balls
[00:21:59] they bounce higher
[00:22:00] that's what it is
[00:22:00] the bounce on them.
[00:22:01] So it's like
[00:22:02] some of that stuff
[00:22:02] matters you know.
[00:22:03] Yes it does.
[00:22:04] So yeah
[00:22:05] I even got some balls
[00:22:06] that were like
[00:22:07] I think they're
[00:22:08] dongle balls
[00:22:09] or they're some of the
[00:22:12] what is it
[00:22:13] Bill Chance
[00:22:14] that they call them
[00:22:14] the Loch Nard balls.
[00:22:16] They are they're
[00:22:17] I'm not criticizing
[00:22:18] I don't want to
[00:22:18] criticize anybody OK.
[00:22:19] Oh sure.
[00:22:19] But
[00:22:20] they they were bigger.
[00:22:22] They were about
[00:22:23] point six millimeter
[00:22:24] bigger larger.
[00:22:26] They they were
[00:22:27] they weighed more
[00:22:29] and
[00:22:30] and their
[00:22:32] coefficient of reflectivity
[00:22:33] was different.
[00:22:34] So
[00:22:35] I'm not going to send those out
[00:22:37] to somebody
[00:22:38] unless they
[00:22:39] they want those.
[00:22:40] Oh and let me give you
[00:22:41] one other punch
[00:22:41] and I'll get off the ball thing
[00:22:42] OK.
[00:22:42] Oh sure.
[00:22:43] So I am
[00:22:46] donating balls to
[00:22:47] Foosball Clubs USA.
[00:22:48] Yes.
[00:22:49] So any any
[00:22:50] Foosball Clubs USA
[00:22:51] member out there
[00:22:52] if they want balls
[00:22:54] tell me
[00:22:54] and I'll send you
[00:22:55] refurbished balls
[00:22:56] send me old ones back
[00:22:57] I'll send you new ones.
[00:22:58] Now what I'm doing is
[00:22:59] Wow.
[00:23:00] When I get these
[00:23:01] oodles of balls
[00:23:02] I get
[00:23:03] ink balls and red balls
[00:23:03] right.
[00:23:04] I'm taking the pink balls
[00:23:06] and I'm refurbishing them.
[00:23:07] They play fine.
[00:23:08] They do.
[00:23:08] They do.
[00:23:08] OK.
[00:23:09] Play well.
[00:23:10] And so I'm
[00:23:10] predominantly
[00:23:11] refurbishing those
[00:23:12] and providing them
[00:23:14] to the
[00:23:14] Foosball Clubs USA.
[00:23:16] So they'll have fresh
[00:23:16] new balls
[00:23:17] and
[00:23:18] yeah.
[00:23:18] So that's kind of
[00:23:19] that's my ball thing.
[00:23:20] I could go on and on.
[00:23:21] I'm
[00:23:22] more engineering things
[00:23:23] but
[00:23:23] I don't want to
[00:23:24] belabor that.
[00:23:24] No understood.
[00:23:25] No we certainly can have
[00:23:27] we can have other
[00:23:27] conversations about
[00:23:28] that in the future.
[00:23:29] But yeah I mean
[00:23:30] that's that's
[00:23:31] terrific.
[00:23:31] I know
[00:23:33] the cost of balls
[00:23:34] just you know brand
[00:23:35] new balls
[00:23:36] are getting pretty
[00:23:37] pretty out there.
[00:23:37] I mean it's what
[00:23:38] four or five
[00:23:38] dollars for a new
[00:23:39] ball.
[00:23:40] So to be able to
[00:23:42] to reuse them
[00:23:43] I think this is
[00:23:44] fantastic
[00:23:44] and it sounds to me
[00:23:45] like you are
[00:23:46] you're an exact
[00:23:47] it's a green initiative
[00:23:48] to it can sell a little
[00:23:49] bit as I mean
[00:23:50] they're not getting
[00:23:50] thrown somebody
[00:23:51] somebody talked to
[00:23:52] they said what do you
[00:23:52] I asked them what
[00:23:53] they do with their
[00:23:53] balls and they said
[00:23:55] they smiled
[00:23:56] coy a little bit.
[00:23:57] I
[00:23:58] throw them in the
[00:23:58] river he said.
[00:24:00] What throw them
[00:24:01] out.
[00:24:01] Yeah.
[00:24:02] That's why some
[00:24:02] people go out.
[00:24:03] Just give you
[00:24:04] a price.
[00:24:04] I do my I sell
[00:24:05] my balls for
[00:24:06] two dollars
[00:24:07] OK.
[00:24:07] Dollars a ball.
[00:24:08] Yep.
[00:24:08] So twenty dollars
[00:24:09] for ten balls
[00:24:10] and so I'll do
[00:24:11] a mail order
[00:24:11] that kind of stuff
[00:24:12] too.
[00:24:12] And you can find me
[00:24:12] on
[00:24:13] Foosball
[00:24:13] on
[00:24:14] Facebook
[00:24:14] and
[00:24:15] we can talk about
[00:24:15] that.
[00:24:15] Yeah.
[00:24:16] Awesome.
[00:24:16] Well I think that
[00:24:17] you know
[00:24:18] it's innovation.
[00:24:20] It's
[00:24:20] people like yourself
[00:24:21] entrepreneurial spirit
[00:24:23] that really
[00:24:24] you know this
[00:24:25] grassroots movement
[00:24:26] of Foosball
[00:24:27] is really
[00:24:28] it's the life
[00:24:29] blood.
[00:24:29] You know this
[00:24:30] is the thing
[00:24:30] that keeps
[00:24:31] people going
[00:24:32] you know hats
[00:24:33] off to
[00:24:33] Foosgadgets
[00:24:34] and the things
[00:24:35] they're creating.
[00:24:36] Yeah.
[00:24:37] You know
[00:24:37] Aaron
[00:24:38] Croft is
[00:24:39] yeah these guys
[00:24:40] are really
[00:24:41] doing some
[00:24:41] great stuff.
[00:24:43] You know I
[00:24:44] me personally
[00:24:45] I'm always
[00:24:45] looking for
[00:24:46] new ways to
[00:24:46] to enjoy the
[00:24:47] the game.
[00:24:48] But you guys
[00:24:49] are really
[00:24:49] you're doing it.
[00:24:50] You know.
[00:24:51] Yeah.
[00:24:51] Well you know I think
[00:24:52] I think that
[00:24:53] Foosball
[00:24:53] in my opinion
[00:24:54] is
[00:24:54] I think
[00:24:55] Foosball
[00:24:55] is ready
[00:24:55] for a
[00:24:56] renaissance.
[00:24:56] Yes.
[00:24:57] Because
[00:24:58] because there's
[00:24:59] people like
[00:24:59] me
[00:25:00] like you
[00:25:01] you know
[00:25:03] I love
[00:25:03] Foosball
[00:25:04] and
[00:25:05] I just
[00:25:05] retired.
[00:25:06] Yeah.
[00:25:06] And the
[00:25:06] challenge
[00:25:07] is the
[00:25:07] challenges
[00:25:08] you know it's
[00:25:08] like OK
[00:25:09] Michael Stahl
[00:25:09] is like
[00:25:10] come on man
[00:25:12] get
[00:25:12] get some
[00:25:12] Foosball
[00:25:13] clubs
[00:25:13] going in
[00:25:14] your high schools.
[00:25:15] Yes.
[00:25:15] You know
[00:25:15] I'm retired
[00:25:16] and I've
[00:25:17] donated
[00:25:18] I donated a
[00:25:18] table to
[00:25:19] an elementary
[00:25:20] school.
[00:25:20] I donated
[00:25:21] a table to
[00:25:22] my church.
[00:25:23] Yeah.
[00:25:23] I went
[00:25:24] and I did
[00:25:24] classes at
[00:25:25] the elementary
[00:25:25] school.
[00:25:25] I did
[00:25:26] I had some
[00:25:26] classes at
[00:25:27] my house
[00:25:27] with kids
[00:25:28] and I have
[00:25:29] a league thing
[00:25:29] going on
[00:25:31] now
[00:25:31] and it's like
[00:25:32] OK you know
[00:25:33] as like
[00:25:33] us are
[00:25:33] retired
[00:25:35] and I
[00:25:35] love this
[00:25:36] sport.
[00:25:36] I think it
[00:25:36] can develop
[00:25:37] a lot of
[00:25:37] things you
[00:25:38] know people
[00:25:38] play
[00:25:39] Foosball
[00:25:40] because they
[00:25:40] just want
[00:25:41] to have
[00:25:41] fun.
[00:25:42] They want
[00:25:42] they love
[00:25:43] the competition
[00:25:43] of it.
[00:25:44] They
[00:25:45] like
[00:25:45] the camaraderie
[00:25:46] the community
[00:25:46] and then
[00:25:47] for kids also
[00:25:48] it gives them
[00:25:48] a good
[00:25:49] outlet to
[00:25:49] grow
[00:25:50] in their
[00:25:50] self confidence
[00:25:51] and
[00:25:51] oh yeah
[00:25:52] and develop
[00:25:52] as a
[00:25:52] person
[00:25:53] you know
[00:25:53] so
[00:25:54] there's a
[00:25:54] lot of
[00:25:55] positive
[00:25:55] things
[00:25:55] you could
[00:25:56] spin about
[00:25:56] it
[00:25:56] and
[00:25:57] people
[00:25:58] like me
[00:25:59] are
[00:25:59] retiring
[00:26:00] and
[00:26:01] I have
[00:26:02] benefited
[00:26:02] from
[00:26:02] enjoy
[00:26:03] enjoyed
[00:26:03] it a lot
[00:26:04] and I
[00:26:04] would like
[00:26:04] other
[00:26:05] kids
[00:26:05] other
[00:26:06] people
[00:26:06] particularly
[00:26:06] kids
[00:26:07] who
[00:26:08] have an
[00:26:09] appreciation
[00:26:09] of that
[00:26:10] and give
[00:26:10] them a
[00:26:10] great
[00:26:11] outlet to
[00:26:11] not be
[00:26:11] on their
[00:26:12] phone as
[00:26:12] much
[00:26:12] and
[00:26:13] have to
[00:26:13] work through
[00:26:14] some
[00:26:14] personal
[00:26:15] relations of
[00:26:15] oh I don't
[00:26:16] like you
[00:26:16] because you
[00:26:17] beat me
[00:26:18] you act like
[00:26:18] that
[00:26:19] but still
[00:26:19] to be
[00:26:20] able to
[00:26:20] play
[00:26:20] you know
[00:26:21] it's
[00:26:21] personal
[00:26:22] growth
[00:26:22] so
[00:26:23] it's
[00:26:23] ready for
[00:26:24] a
[00:26:24] renaissance
[00:26:24] I think
[00:26:24] so
[00:26:25] no I
[00:26:25] agree
[00:26:25] and it's
[00:26:26] and we're
[00:26:26] we're
[00:26:27] on
[00:26:27] in the
[00:26:27] right moment
[00:26:28] you know
[00:26:29] the right time
[00:26:29] the right place
[00:26:31] and
[00:26:32] I had
[00:26:32] to ask
[00:26:33] this question
[00:26:33] it was
[00:26:33] in the
[00:26:34] back of
[00:26:34] my mind
[00:26:35] perhaps
[00:26:36] you've seen
[00:26:36] the
[00:26:36] flyers
[00:26:37] come out
[00:26:37] in the
[00:26:37] last
[00:26:38] two weeks
[00:26:39] now
[00:26:40] about
[00:26:41] the
[00:26:41] world
[00:26:41] series
[00:26:42] of
[00:26:43] tornado
[00:26:44] coming
[00:26:45] on
[00:26:45] Memorial Day
[00:26:46] weekend
[00:26:46] in Texas
[00:26:48] what do
[00:26:48] you think
[00:26:48] of that
[00:26:49] what's
[00:26:49] what's
[00:26:50] that all
[00:26:50] about?
[00:26:52] Well first
[00:26:53] I'm gonna tell
[00:26:53] you this
[00:26:54] I want
[00:26:55] a goalie
[00:26:56] I need
[00:26:56] a goalie
[00:26:57] I wanna go
[00:26:57] win
[00:26:58] I'm a goalie
[00:26:58] senior
[00:26:59] doubles
[00:26:59] okay
[00:27:00] I need
[00:27:00] I need
[00:27:01] a good
[00:27:01] goalie
[00:27:02] I'm gonna
[00:27:02] go
[00:27:02] win
[00:27:02] senior
[00:27:03] doubles
[00:27:03] I wanna
[00:27:03] go
[00:27:03] play
[00:27:04] I'm
[00:27:04] adding
[00:27:05] that on
[00:27:05] my list
[00:27:05] my 15th
[00:27:06] tournament
[00:27:06] okay
[00:27:08] you know
[00:27:09] I
[00:27:10] you know
[00:27:10] what I
[00:27:11] think they
[00:27:11] need to
[00:27:12] I think
[00:27:12] it's a
[00:27:13] great thing
[00:27:14] would
[00:27:14] I understand
[00:27:14] about it a little
[00:27:15] bit of it is
[00:27:15] is that
[00:27:16] the
[00:27:16] the world
[00:27:18] is it
[00:27:18] ITSF
[00:27:19] yes
[00:27:19] Federation
[00:27:20] is like
[00:27:21] is like
[00:27:21] sponsoring
[00:27:22] these different
[00:27:22] tournaments
[00:27:24] and
[00:27:24] and
[00:27:25] this is
[00:27:25] this is
[00:27:25] the
[00:27:26] spotlight
[00:27:26] on the
[00:27:27] United States
[00:27:27] for now
[00:27:28] right
[00:27:28] this is our
[00:27:28] term
[00:27:29] maybe we'll
[00:27:29] have one
[00:27:29] every year
[00:27:29] I don't know
[00:27:30] I would
[00:27:31] think that
[00:27:31] we
[00:27:31] log into
[00:27:32] our
[00:27:32] country
[00:27:32] to do
[00:27:33] that
[00:27:33] right
[00:27:33] oh sure
[00:27:35] and
[00:27:35] so I think
[00:27:36] it's good
[00:27:36] because
[00:27:37] there
[00:27:38] there's
[00:27:38] a world
[00:27:39] scene
[00:27:39] and I think
[00:27:40] we should
[00:27:41] participate
[00:27:41] in that
[00:27:42] I'm gonna
[00:27:42] go to
[00:27:42] it
[00:27:43] yeah
[00:27:44] yeah
[00:27:45] you know
[00:27:45] it could
[00:27:46] have been
[00:27:46] announced
[00:27:46] earlier
[00:27:47] and
[00:27:47] well
[00:27:48] whatever
[00:27:49] but
[00:27:49] anyways
[00:27:50] I
[00:27:50] think
[00:27:50] it's a
[00:27:51] good
[00:27:51] thing
[00:27:52] the
[00:27:52] format
[00:27:52] of it
[00:27:53] all
[00:27:53] and
[00:27:53] like
[00:27:54] there's
[00:27:54] a lot
[00:27:54] you
[00:27:55] can
[00:27:55] play
[00:27:55] in
[00:27:55] this
[00:27:55] event
[00:27:56] and
[00:27:56] there's
[00:27:56] a lot
[00:27:57] of
[00:27:57] ores
[00:27:58] this
[00:27:58] event
[00:27:58] or
[00:27:59] this
[00:27:59] or
[00:27:59] this
[00:27:59] or
[00:27:59] this
[00:28:00] yeah
[00:28:00] but
[00:28:01] when
[00:28:01] you
[00:28:01] play
[00:28:01] in
[00:28:01] an
[00:28:02] event
[00:28:02] they're
[00:28:02] doing
[00:28:03] it
[00:28:03] more
[00:28:03] like
[00:28:03] the
[00:28:03] Swiss
[00:28:04] kind
[00:28:04] of
[00:28:04] system
[00:28:04] so
[00:28:05] when
[00:28:05] you
[00:28:05] gonna
[00:28:05] play
[00:28:06] lots
[00:28:06] of
[00:28:06] events
[00:28:07] in
[00:28:07] that
[00:28:44] event
[00:28:45] and
[00:28:45] yeah
[00:28:46] and
[00:28:46] well
[00:28:47] what
[00:28:47] is
[00:28:47] Masters
[00:28:48] what is
[00:28:48] Masters
[00:28:49] the
[00:28:49] Masters
[00:28:50] I still
[00:28:50] don't
[00:28:50] quite
[00:28:51] know
[00:28:51] it's
[00:28:52] like
[00:28:52] it's
[00:28:52] just
[00:28:53] a name
[00:28:53] it's
[00:28:53] like
[00:28:54] I think
[00:28:54] it's
[00:28:55] kind of
[00:28:55] yeah
[00:28:56] it's
[00:28:56] a
[00:28:56] moniker
[00:28:57] I thought
[00:28:57] it was
[00:28:57] just
[00:28:58] for
[00:28:58] Masters
[00:28:59] yeah
[00:28:59] it's
[00:29:00] like
[00:29:00] somebody
[00:29:00] should
[00:29:01] just
[00:29:01] put a
[00:29:01] document
[00:29:02] out there
[00:29:02] describe
[00:29:02] that's
[00:29:03] what
[00:29:03] these
[00:29:03] events
[00:29:03] are
[00:29:04] you
[00:29:04] know
[00:29:04] I'm
[00:29:05] I think
[00:29:05] you're
[00:29:06] on to
[00:29:06] something here
[00:29:06] this is
[00:29:07] definitely
[00:29:07] something
[00:29:08] needs to
[00:29:08] happen
[00:29:08] we need
[00:29:09] to understand
[00:29:09] yeah
[00:29:15] pros and
[00:29:16] pro Masters
[00:29:16] play against
[00:29:17] each other
[00:29:18] you know
[00:29:18] with
[00:29:20] they would have to be like
[00:29:21] you know
[00:29:22] a thousand dollar
[00:29:23] entry fee
[00:29:24] is pros
[00:29:24] only
[00:29:25] or something like that
[00:29:25] get sponsors
[00:29:26] sponsors
[00:29:27] or have it
[00:29:27] yeah have it
[00:29:28] sponsored by
[00:29:28] a larger
[00:29:29] larger entity
[00:29:30] where
[00:29:31] where it's
[00:29:31] televised
[00:29:32] and it's done
[00:29:33] in
[00:29:33] in a
[00:29:34] you know
[00:29:34] in a top-notch
[00:29:34] way
[00:29:35] I mean
[00:29:35] we're seeing
[00:29:36] some of that
[00:29:37] you know
[00:29:37] we're seeing
[00:29:37] a bit of
[00:29:38] that now
[00:29:38] especially when
[00:29:38] it comes to
[00:29:39] the media
[00:29:39] Jason Wicks
[00:29:41] comes to
[00:29:41] mind of
[00:29:42] Foosball
[00:29:42] Network
[00:29:43] and
[00:29:43] also
[00:29:44] David
[00:29:44] David Kala
[00:29:45] who's doing
[00:29:46] modern
[00:29:47] foos
[00:29:47] and those
[00:29:48] are
[00:29:48] those are
[00:29:49] great examples
[00:29:50] of what can be
[00:29:51] you know
[00:29:51] when it comes to
[00:29:52] coverage
[00:29:53] definitely
[00:29:53] and making this
[00:29:54] making this a
[00:29:55] viable
[00:29:56] watchable
[00:29:57] and sustainable
[00:29:59] sport
[00:30:00] so
[00:30:01] just
[00:30:02] just my
[00:30:02] my opinion
[00:30:03] it's evolving
[00:30:04] it's evolving
[00:30:05] you know
[00:30:05] I went
[00:30:06] I've been to a number of
[00:30:07] Dawood's tournaments
[00:30:08] because he's
[00:30:08] he's up in
[00:30:09] Washington
[00:30:09] right
[00:30:10] yes
[00:30:10] and so
[00:30:10] I go out there
[00:30:11] and last year
[00:30:11] he did one
[00:30:12] it was
[00:30:13] Washington State
[00:30:13] and
[00:30:14] it was really
[00:30:15] interesting
[00:30:16] he had like
[00:30:17] you would
[00:30:18] play in
[00:30:19] a very
[00:30:20] large
[00:30:21] a very
[00:30:22] large
[00:30:23] monster
[00:30:24] kind of event
[00:30:25] and you
[00:30:26] play like
[00:30:27] eight
[00:30:28] you played eight
[00:30:29] rounds
[00:30:30] and so
[00:30:31] you played
[00:30:32] singles
[00:30:33] and you did
[00:30:34] doubles
[00:30:35] okay
[00:30:36] and so
[00:30:37] you played
[00:30:38] eight
[00:30:39] rounds
[00:30:40] and then
[00:30:41] he put them
[00:30:42] into three
[00:30:43] different categories
[00:30:44] and so
[00:30:45] and then
[00:30:46] the money that you would earn
[00:30:47] is much higher
[00:30:48] for the gold
[00:30:49] and less for the silver
[00:30:51] and I think bronze
[00:30:52] was maybe just
[00:30:53] and he had nice plaques
[00:30:54] and such
[00:30:55] so that was kind of what he did
[00:30:56] and then there was a knockout round
[00:30:58] and I thought it was really satisfying
[00:31:00] because
[00:31:01] I played with
[00:31:02] you know
[00:31:03] just in singles
[00:31:04] I played
[00:31:05] I played against
[00:31:06] you know like
[00:31:07] eight or ten people
[00:31:08] and that's
[00:31:09] that's the kind of thing
[00:31:10] that I wanted to do
[00:31:11] when I first started
[00:31:12] came back to playing foosball
[00:31:13] in 2008
[00:31:14] down in Vegas
[00:31:15] right
[00:31:16] and I played all these
[00:31:17] I played people
[00:31:18] but you know
[00:31:19] you win one
[00:31:20] you lose
[00:31:21] win two
[00:31:22] win one
[00:31:23] lose one
[00:31:24] you know
[00:31:25] there's
[00:31:26] 150
[00:31:27] beginners
[00:31:28] you know
[00:31:29] yeah
[00:31:30] oh yeah
[00:31:31] four
[00:31:32] I played four of them
[00:31:33] no kidding
[00:31:34] how good am I
[00:31:35] how good am I
[00:31:36] where do I
[00:31:37] I wanted to play
[00:31:38] 30 of them
[00:31:39] 50 of them
[00:31:40] to know where I'm at
[00:31:41] instead of 150
[00:31:42] so
[00:31:43] yeah
[00:31:44] 25 of them
[00:31:45] I mean
[00:31:46] definitely
[00:31:47] yeah
[00:31:55] so
[00:31:56] that's
[00:31:57] that's
[00:31:58] for that
[00:31:59] feature
[00:32:04] yeah
[00:32:05] I think
[00:32:06] so
[00:32:07] sure
[00:32:08] let me
[00:32:09] let me
[00:32:10] start
[00:32:11] Lot of a lot of detail. It's like ten pages to this to this thing
[00:32:15] But it's it's exciting and I really truly hope that they have a good turnout, you know
[00:32:20] Yeah, yeah, I hope so too. Yeah, definitely. I mean we want to do that. We want to represent
[00:32:25] We want to be a force in the world stage with the United States. Yeah. Yep
[00:32:30] Yep, we need to we need to make that that change and it's you know, we we tend to be a little isolationist at times
[00:32:36] You know, we're all tornado players
[00:32:38] But I'm close enough to Canada where I'm seeing a lot of people who love Bonzini a lot of people who love Leonhart
[00:32:45] By the way, cam burrows. Hey cam
[00:32:50] Want to say hey to cam who's been sponsoring food stock live and foosball radio and it's just you know, these are
[00:32:57] multiple table players that we're seeing and if we as a nation and
[00:33:03] Competitors we need to get with it get on the stick and start playing on other tables
[00:33:06] I mean, I love the tornado man. I mean, it's my it's my all-time favorite, but there's some great tables out there
[00:33:12] So we need to come here. Yeah, step our game up. I
[00:33:17] Have a you know kind of opened up my pocketbook a little bit in that endeavor and I bought a lean heart at
[00:33:24] Can add worlds last year? I bought the lean heart that they had there because I talked to cam
[00:33:28] I talked to cam and I looked at the prices of his son and he said well
[00:33:32] For this model it was like it was quite a quite a discount because they had shipped it there brought it there
[00:33:37] And then you know, they needed to get rid of it. Yeah, I won't take it home
[00:33:41] He gave me a good price and so I thought you know what?
[00:33:42] I'm just gonna buy it so I bought that lean heart and then I also bought a bonzini
[00:33:46] So did you I want I want to I want to be able to compete on those tables and and I'm thinking of
[00:33:53] I'm thinking of I might still do this of getting all the people at all the seniors
[00:33:58] mm-hmm all the seniors that qualified for World Cup and
[00:34:02] host them come to Boise and
[00:34:05] We'll show you around Boise. Well, if you want to we'll whitewater rafting will go. Oh cool biking
[00:34:10] We'll walk the green belt will go to the it's like a Bellagio Mino Bellagio here in Boise
[00:34:15] And we'll go look in the mountains and and right around that can you mix those things those things in and cool and
[00:34:23] Some sightseeing and we'll play a lot of foosball too and on three different tables
[00:34:26] So well, I mean I've got four tables in my basement right now. So sounds like we're yeah
[00:34:31] From here to Boise. What is it about? I think it's a four-hour flight
[00:34:36] So not too bad, but that would be definitely worth the trip definitely worth the trip
[00:34:40] It's a little trickier getting to Boise then then some of you major cities you get an extra hop
[00:34:44] So right exactly. Well, I have to say man, I mean
[00:34:49] You're you're a force of nature when it comes to foosball and what you're doing and and your local scene man
[00:34:55] Keep it going keep this keep this thing alive and and thank you for what you do
[00:35:00] You know for it's nice that we have some new new players have they have some recent wins
[00:35:05] Some one of our buddies he won
[00:35:08] He run won rookie singles
[00:35:11] Two years ago in in Vegas and there's still passion from that kind of a win
[00:35:16] So that's what you need these other others to have that passion
[00:35:19] So yeah, now do you guys have a keep it alive? Yeah, but in your in your local do you have like a trophy?
[00:35:23] Display you have your trophies up there
[00:35:26] um
[00:35:27] We don't we don't but I did buy one of those. I don't know if you saw this or not at
[00:35:33] It was at the Kentucky the TKO. Oh, yes and JTL JTL had the there's the gold chain
[00:35:41] Looks pretty cool. Yeah, yeah gold chain with the foosball guy on it
[00:35:45] I did get us matter the room here. But anyways, it is really looks cool
[00:35:49] And I thought I bought one of those I
[00:35:52] Told him I want to have a that's a gold chain with a yellow man
[00:35:55] Right. Yep, and I want to have I want to give a gold one and I want to have a silver one
[00:36:00] Mm-hmm. I don't know you do for bra bronze because gold and gold and bronze are kind of you know, yeah, right
[00:36:06] Black maybe black or something like that. Okay. Okay. And so and first second third
[00:36:10] So I might start doing that but that's that's huge. I mean people can really say hey look look what I I mean
[00:36:16] That's that's a little cool. Yeah, it really does
[00:36:18] I'll think I'll be given to him. Let's get a picture with it. Yeah, right, right
[00:36:21] Just put it put it on and stand there and you know, yeah
[00:36:25] Let me put let me put one other plug in for boys if I can is that okay? Yeah. Yeah
[00:36:30] So last year we did what we called the Boise bash. Okay, and I thought we did a pretty good job
[00:36:42] Rob Eriksson he did the videography for us and so it did we did great videos and filming everything
[00:36:48] And it was set up
[00:36:50] we organized this with Utah with with Salt Lake to be kind of sister cities and we're kind of together putting these on and
[00:36:56] We did a team event and you know, it's like and so you you it's basically just a double you start out with singles
[00:37:03] Mm-hmm one person the table and then not somebody rotates in and then the next person rotates in rotate
[00:37:08] And then you end up in the end you end up with a single person again, right? Okay, so there's like
[00:37:14] Either two halves of ESO one half the game match the second half of the match to the game and
[00:37:19] You just play two ball you play two balls while you're on the table
[00:37:22] And then you can rotate right you rotate so gotcha before four balls come in you play four walls and you rotate off and
[00:37:30] Micah McKenna in Salt Lake and I and Bob Barnett kind of pushing this that format and so now
[00:37:38] this year
[00:37:40] We were gonna do two we're gonna do Boise one in the spring and and and Utah in the fall they couldn't do it so
[00:37:46] So we switched this year. So they're gonna do theirs. They're doing theirs up coming up warm up for Vegas
[00:37:51] So if you have four players
[00:37:53] Five play and now we're doing five player team. You have five players and put them together and bring your you know
[00:37:58] Flex your muscles and Bob Barnett from the northwest. He says they call him. They're the north best
[00:38:04] And if they're laying it down they're saying we can't beat us, but we got Colorado coming so okay
[00:38:10] We're gonna have a we're gonna have a little a little awesome sparks there boys. He's coming too. Yeah, we're gonna be
[00:38:15] We're gonna be you know seeing the movie boys in the boat. Have you seen that movie? Anyways, it's an Olympic story
[00:38:21] And so yeah boys in the boat. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's that's that's where were the boys in the boat
[00:38:26] So we're the underdogs that we're gonna that's up for you guys. That's a couple of a couple of Oscars
[00:38:31] I believe boys in the boat. Oh, yeah, it's a it's a really good really good
[00:38:34] They are definitely underdogs and anyway, so that's coming up before
[00:38:38] This before Vegas and then boys you will again we'll do our boysy bash. We're gonna do ours in in
[00:38:45] Late October before as a warm-up to
[00:38:49] Colorado State that's what we're hoping to do. So um, wow
[00:38:52] anyways, that's and so we had a pretty good turnout and and it looks like they're having a good turnout for
[00:38:58] For Utah also, so that's a smaller regional turn. It seemed like they're popping up, right?
[00:39:03] There's more of them coming up and so well, it feels like to me has some growth to it
[00:39:08] I don't know what well just my perception. I can tell you that just
[00:39:12] Statistically speaking I do this thing
[00:39:14] You know called the tournament beat at the end of every every show every week
[00:39:17] And it's a whole listing of all the different tournaments now
[00:39:20] It's hard for me to kind of keep track of everything but isn't that recently?
[00:39:23] I thought that was nice that you had that yeah
[00:39:25] Yeah, no, we we try to list everything that we can find and it's growing
[00:39:29] I mean it was you know at one time as a feature would last maybe three minutes now
[00:39:34] It's up to like five six minutes
[00:39:36] And I'm thinking of actually just separating it out as a full feature by itself and just posting that
[00:39:43] Because it's it's so elaborate on some a little bit like that like this the unique team event
[00:39:48] They're doing here or this or that sure the world series. What's unique about it? You should go to it
[00:39:52] Yeah, you could definitely could be. Yep. Hey
[00:39:54] Maybe some people start sponsoring you more of you. You're promoting their events. Yeah. Yeah
[00:39:59] No doubt. No, it's something that I think that would be
[00:40:02] Like I say, it's about making sure we pay attention to who's out there doing what at all times and again
[00:40:08] It's it's you know, just using the Internet
[00:40:10] It's difficult to know who's doing what sometimes and and hearing hearing from people, you know
[00:40:15] That's the other hard part people just don't they don't necessarily take the time to send messages to let you know
[00:40:21] Hey, man, I want my my tournament up there
[00:40:23] But I think we need to make it make it make a bigger deal of it
[00:40:27] But if the list the point is the list is just growing there's just so many
[00:40:31] tournaments now and Utah bash was one that I found recently and of course
[00:40:35] This this new world series of tornado. I mean Wow
[00:40:40] You know and it just the list gets get bigger and bigger and bigger. So we're excited about that
[00:40:47] Yeah, I think I joke about these regional tournaments. They're kind of like
[00:40:54] a
[00:40:55] Red baby rabbits coming up. The gestation period is six weeks. Yeah, so it was six weeks ahead of time
[00:41:01] Oh, there's another tournament here
[00:41:04] Yeah, yeah, and that's you know, the more the merrier we're so happy for that
[00:41:09] You know, we we in the Northeast have been kind of starved
[00:41:13] We've we haven't had any any majors in this area since probably
[00:41:18] 2015 I believe was the last time we did in New York State or I think
[00:41:22] Maryland State's when was that maybe the last time 2018 or 2019
[00:41:27] So we're really seeing a dirge and we're trying to regroup and say hey guys
[00:41:32] We need to get something together here, but I think that's the case all across the country
[00:41:36] You know, there's there's a lot of well even even like Los Angeles area is like come on
[00:41:44] So the you know, the major metropolitan area is LA New York now your New York City doesn't have a you know
[00:41:50] They have a scene but they don't have working on it though. I think that I've heard some rumblings that they're working on it
[00:41:54] So yeah, yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. So this is this is exciting
[00:41:58] And so there's gonna be a time I think in the near future here
[00:42:01] Well, you have to kind of sit down and really truly think about where you're gonna go and how many tournaments you can actually
[00:42:06] Go to oh, yeah
[00:42:09] You know what? I'd like to encourage you from New York if here's here's an idea. Um
[00:42:14] I'd like to go to I'm gonna I'm gonna probably I'm gonna go to either a Bonzini or Leonhardt tournament also this year
[00:42:20] I don't know where okay, and I got I got an invite from
[00:42:26] Is with the Foosball Cubs USA helping to run it with his name anyways Mark Jolette and he's
[00:42:31] Yeah. Yeah mark. He said oh, wait, come on. Come on. Come on a tournament something and
[00:42:36] And I tell mark say he marked
[00:42:37] Okay
[00:42:38] Tell me a date tell me the date when it's gonna be because I'm not tracking the Bonzini stuff very well
[00:42:42] Tell me the name. Mm-hmm. And I said, you know, ideally it would be like right up alongside another tournament
[00:42:48] I could go to yeah, that's what me I'm retired. Okay, I would go I would go okay one weekend
[00:42:53] I would go to let's say two worlds. Yeah the worlds in Kentucky
[00:42:57] I go to can go to Kentucky to worlds in the next weekend. I'm going right to Bonzini. I'm on tour, baby
[00:43:03] Yeah, I want to I don't want to do two plane tickets out there. I want to go to Kentucky new worlds
[00:43:08] I'm gonna go to
[00:43:11] Go to Washington DC kick around see some things there a day or two there and take some pictures
[00:43:15] And I'm gonna go beat all you guys on Bonzini
[00:43:20] But anyways, that's the idea, you know, it's like string these together some I thought it'd be really cool if somebody put together a
[00:43:28] the a
[00:43:30] Amtrak tour, you know, and and the the east-west tour, you know go from go from
[00:43:36] From
[00:43:38] Portland to Washington to Washington State, you know one to come across and stop right in in
[00:43:46] Minneapolis
[00:43:48] To Chicago and just keep on going on the Empire and the Empire
[00:43:53] Track I think Empire track might stop in Chicago, but keep on going over to like
[00:43:58] well go
[00:44:00] Maybe Detroit if they move the Michigan tournament to Detroit, you know, and then and then get something down in
[00:44:06] I don't know golly to Florida. Anyways, three or four just get on the Empire Builder, you know, and it's like
[00:44:12] Already foosball players. Here we go. We're going for we're going for three weeks of playing foosball
[00:44:17] You know, of course have a couple of tables on board the train naturally, you know, you know
[00:44:22] You know gotta stay warm, you know along the way
[00:44:25] But no, that's a great idea. Sorry. I'm rambling on so much. No, no, no, that's fine
[00:44:29] No, it's we we are always looking for innovation and ideas and no matter
[00:44:34] You know how much it how much we talk about the sport, you know people like yourself who are actually doing things
[00:44:40] That's that's the idea. You know lots of ideas out there, but now we've got to put them into action
[00:44:44] So ideas are cheap, right? Yeah
[00:44:48] But again, thank you for doing what you do and
[00:44:51] you know so eternally grateful for your support with patreon the patreon page and
[00:44:57] We're we're looking forward to the future
[00:45:00] Get a thousand members because we all if we don't support
[00:45:04] People who are doing things in foosball. It doesn't continue on right? So we need to support and buy things
[00:45:11] Yeah people, you know like I don't know. Yeah
[00:45:14] You know any kind of anybody who buys or sells or makes something? Mm-hmm, you know support foosball players
[00:45:19] Yep, right exactly right and it's it is gratifying to know that no matter how old we might be
[00:45:26] If
[00:45:28] Retired or not, we can still play this sport and and be a big part of it
[00:45:32] So thank you so much quick as we once were a bit. Yeah a little bit more sly more sly
[00:45:36] It's not the speed man. That's not the speed. It's the technique right?
[00:45:40] But but it's but it's it I'm looking forward to seeing you on the tour
[00:45:44] By the way before we go how many tour stops are you planning on this year? I had 14
[00:45:51] 15 15 with the with the World Series will be 15 and then I will I will put in I will probably do a
[00:45:58] Bonzini or lean heart so that would make it 16. So yeah
[00:46:03] And there's about four
[00:46:05] Or five of them are more regionals like the the Boise bash the Utah bash
[00:46:10] Yep, and I did one Vancouver did I went to Vancouver?
[00:46:15] Two weekends ago. That's a little more of a regional one. Mm-hmm and
[00:46:19] Some of them are not quite as big, you know, I'm gonna go to Minnesota
[00:46:24] Minnesota Illinois, I'm gonna I went to the TKO which is kind of a last-minute choice. I'm glad I went. Yes
[00:46:31] I've placed in an event there too. So, um
[00:46:35] Let's see, of course the world's and nationals. Mm-hmm. And
[00:46:39] Those are those are the ones and and Vegas are ones I'm going to so
[00:46:44] Excellent. Yeah, so, you know my wife is
[00:46:48] Said honey, you know
[00:46:50] You got this dream
[00:46:51] Let's do it. She said let's go. Let's go dream
[00:46:54] You know can't you can't do I can't do some things that I'm 70, you know
[00:46:58] Yeah, so now's the time and and she said we just got to make sure I got somebody take care of the dog
[00:47:05] She's working some too. So that kind of gets in a way a little bit but okay. Well, I mean regardless
[00:47:10] I'm looking forward to seeing you guys on the trail, you know out there on
[00:47:14] Who knows maybe we can play together at the
[00:47:18] Let's see World Series. I don't know if you're looking for a goalie. I'm kind of you know, I'm easy
[00:47:27] Again thank you so much for being a part of the foosball radio patreon profile Michael white
[00:47:33] You're the best and and hey go knock them dead today out there in Boise
[00:47:38] Yeah, well every tournament in Boise I tell the guys that these are
[00:47:44] Training sessions is what they are. So
[00:47:46] But sometimes I need to need to put my eye on the sights real tight and say the training session is to win
[00:47:52] Yeah, I don't do that that often in Boise
[00:47:55] Today I'm kind of feeling a little bit so I maybe will be doing that. Okay, awesome. Yep
[00:48:02] It maybe let me and I'll let you know how I did
[00:48:06] We want to hear one of her for sure. Yeah, but thanks for joining us. And again, this is foosball radio patreon profile
