[00:02:29] it's always good to have somebody else who wants to talk about Foosball.

[00:02:33] Of course that would be my good buddy Randy Raposo based out of Alabama.

    [00:02:39] And how about yourself?

[00:02:40] What's some week of in like for you?

[00:02:42] Well just you know grind it, live in doing stuff, doing country stuff, Alabama stuff.

[00:02:51] Well actually next weekend I'm going to be going to my first not next week in the weekend

[00:02:59] after I'm going to be going to my first NASCAR race.

    [00:03:02] NASCAR really?

    [00:03:03] I'm excited about that.

[00:03:04] I'm looking forward to seeing some weird stuff.

[00:03:06] Yeah, so they say that it's not the race but it's the crowd that's there watching the

    [00:03:11] races really just so.

[00:03:13] Yeah, so I'm going to be a Taladega.

[00:03:15] Actually the company I work for during the day my day job we work the race and were there

    [00:03:23] propane supplier.

[00:03:24] So I'll be there Friday and Sunday and everybody tells me they're like during the day it's

[00:03:29] chill man, we're out of their 5.

    [00:03:31] It's crazy after 5.

[00:03:33] Some like good I'll be gone before it gets crazy but they all say the same thing.

    [00:03:37] They're like it's it is a site.

[00:03:41] Do you do bunny chance have infield passes?

[00:03:45] I have no dude, I have full access.

[00:03:48] I will be driving I will be driving a NASCAR before the weekends like I'm going to be

    [00:03:57] well feral in Taladega.

[00:03:58] Yeah, if you're not first your last name Jimmy Bobby was that his name in the movie?

    [00:04:04] Ricky Bobby Ricky Bobby.

[00:04:05] Yeah, she's something like that.

    [00:04:07] Shaking, shaking big.

    [00:04:08] Let's go.

    [00:04:09] That's my plan.

    [00:04:10] That's my plan.

    [00:04:11] We'll see.

[00:04:12] Well, we're going to we're going to be actually to hear about your experiences.

[00:04:15] There's no doubt about that.

[00:04:16] I'll try to take some pictures for you.

    [00:04:19] Nice.

    [00:04:20] Okay.

[00:04:21] Well, hey, we should probably mention that this weekend is a very, very busy for foosball

    [00:04:25] Oklahoma state.

[00:04:27] Ryan Moore, Brandon Munoz what a combination taken open doubles.

    [00:04:31] What a surprise.

[00:04:32] Yeah, so Ryan one singles again.

    [00:04:35] Uh huh.

[00:04:36] I mean, I think it's pretty safe to say that Ryan is the man and singles right now.

[00:04:42] Brandon and Ryan when doubles shout out to my boy Paul Rankin.

[00:04:46] So transplant from California who's now living in Alabama, who's just a certified stud.

    [00:04:52] Certified stat.

[00:04:54] Yeah, playing for playing for King because Paul never practices man.

[00:04:57] He just shows up and takes third and open doubles with another pro player who who hasn't

[00:05:03] I mean the guy he played with this this this guy Franco Dupozo used to be around a lot

[00:05:08] and really, really solid pro player who just shows up wins pro singles.

[00:05:14] I think he's playing for King see pro doubles and takes third and open doubles.

[00:05:17] So shout out to those guys.

    [00:05:19] Yeah.

[00:05:20] And then Brandon and Isabelle winning mixed.

[00:05:22] So there you go right now Brandon Brandon's Brandon and Isabelle date they might be

[00:05:27] the team to beat and mix and then Ryan's just yeah, Ryan's killing singles.

    [00:05:31] Yeah, yeah.

[00:05:32] It's a lot of I guess you could say the usual suspects in that.

    [00:05:37] Yeah.

[00:05:38] I mean, I think that's the best way to do it for sure.

[00:05:39] It's kind of it's frustrating that it's always the same freaking guys man.

[00:05:44] Well, you know, I mean it depends on who shows sometimes but you know I do get you.

    [00:05:48] It doesn't matter.

    [00:05:49] It doesn't matter.

    [00:05:50] It doesn't matter if they're there.

[00:05:52] You know, it's like sometimes you know you get Jacob taking fourth and you get some

[00:05:57] outlifters like a well, Dewey and Shan and at the kickoff which is nice to see.

[00:06:02] I'm rooting for those guys, but it's like man, I just.

[00:06:06] I mean, if my man, if my man Tommy, you're was there.

[00:06:09] You know, things might have been a little different but that's the same.

    [00:06:13] Disangling.

    [00:06:14] Complacence thing.

    [00:06:15] Sorry to me.

    [00:06:16] Good.

    [00:06:17] Good.

[00:06:18] But certainly, certainly great showing this weekend for Oklahoma State.

[00:06:21] Also, the Canadian Hall of Fame was happening this weekend in Ottawa and I'm not sure

[00:06:26] everybody knows about this, but it's called the events sports girl Hall of Fame warm up

[00:06:31] in LA and Los Angeles was happening this weekend.

[00:06:34] So that's a, that's a biggie actually when you think about Los Angeles hasn't really

[00:06:39] been on the radar for foosball a lot.

[00:06:41] They actually got a pretty decent scene.

[00:06:43] California is a big state.

[00:06:45] People forget how big it is, but from Sacramento all the way up to San Francisco, it's like

    [00:06:49] I, I think it's like eight hours or 10 hours.

    [00:06:52] It's a pretty good drive.

[00:06:53] But the Bay Area in San Francisco, great scene, a lot of studs.

[00:06:57] LA has some really good players in Sacramento, also ton of great players.

[00:07:02] So a lot of good foosball in California.

    [00:07:04] Yeah, yeah.

[00:07:05] I mean, got people like Trevor Park and those guys.

[00:07:06] I mean, there's a lot on the West Coast.

[00:07:10] But yeah, that would have been cool to be flying the wall there, for sure.

[00:07:15] By the way, and I know this is kind of a source subject but I gotta say, the ITSF and

[00:07:21] Inside Foos made a huge splash today with their broadcast on Twitch TV.

[00:07:27] If you happen to be listening or watching, it was it was an hour long.

[00:07:32] They talked to Farid, Luna's and they also talked to Steve Murray all about the ITSF

[00:07:39] World Series of tornado coming up Memorial Day weekend in Dallas, Texas.

    [00:07:44] Jim Stevens was there.

[00:07:45] Mark Torres was there guys.

    [00:07:47] Great job.

    [00:07:48] Good stuff.

[00:07:49] Yeah, we got a little bit more information about what's happening there when it comes to

    [00:07:53] the big ITSF event.

[00:07:55] The first of its kind really in America.

[00:07:58] So nonetheless, I still want to go.

[00:08:01] I don't think I'm going to make it Tom.

[00:08:06] The wife and I we okay now.

[00:08:08] I think we're going to head east.

[00:08:09] I think we're going to head east for our vacation and actually so this week and coming

[00:08:14] up, I'm going to be in the Northeast visiting family.

    [00:08:16] Yes.

[00:08:17] And then yeah, on the 17th when I get back, I got to see the shoulder doctor.

    [00:08:23] My wife's shoulder.

    [00:08:24] Oh, okay.

    [00:08:25] So I think I think I got a tear in here.

[00:08:27] I'm going to have to have surgery but you know, 20 plus years of hockey man full contact.

    [00:08:33] That'll do it.

    [00:08:34] That'll do it.

[00:08:35] It's catching up with me now.

[00:08:36] Also, you know, life is just it's slowly passing me by.

    [00:08:40] Yeah.

[00:08:41] Well, I'm looking forward to I'm looking forward to anesthesia.

    [00:08:44] So good.

[00:08:46] It's nothing wrong with that right?

[00:08:48] You know, whatever you get you off.

    [00:08:49] That's fine.

    [00:08:50] That's cool.

    [00:08:51] That's a good time.

[00:08:52] And of course it's all worth it for the sacrifice and I do have to mention one more

    [00:08:57] thing next weekend.

    [00:08:59] Yeah.

[00:09:00] It's a grudge match extraordinaire which is happening at Don Carlos in Fall River, Massachusetts.

    [00:09:06] It's a B.Y.P.

[00:09:07] D.Y.P. combination tournament with everybody can come on in and enjoy the food and have

[00:09:11] a great time at Don Carlos.

    [00:09:12] Right.

[00:09:13] Big event is our own Randy Raposo as he takes on Ricky or should we say, Richie?

[00:09:20] Well, this is the thing though Tom.

    [00:09:23] This is the thing.

[00:09:24] So so I caught COVID.

    [00:09:26] I caught COVID and I'm sick.

    [00:09:29] I see.

    [00:09:30] I see.

    [00:09:31] Yeah.

[00:09:32] There's a chance this bum might bail which I which I knew was going to happen.

    [00:09:36] Oh, come on.

    [00:09:37] I knew it.

[00:09:38] Well, he's telling me you know, I've been having fever dreams about Foolsball.

[00:09:43] You know, I'm like, listen buddy.

    [00:09:45] I said you got a week.

[00:09:47] I said, I'm not going to take a lot of it.

    [00:09:51] I think you got a week.

    [00:09:52] Don't don't do that.

[00:09:53] Don't back out because Richie Custon can't do this to us.

[00:09:56] You can't do this to us Richie.

[00:09:57] You just can't do that.

[00:09:58] Let's talk back it up, bro.

    [00:10:00] So no.

[00:10:01] So but yeah, listen, if you're if you're if you're in the area next next weekend, come

[00:10:06] to Don Carlos on Saturday.

    [00:10:07] Forever.

[00:10:08] He's going to be a good time.

    [00:10:09] Well, remember, a D Y P D Y P B Y P.

[00:10:14] And anybody that wants to play on playing three out of five for a hundred.

    [00:10:18] Okay.

[00:10:19] Well, you'll see at least one of us from five one eight Chuck Chuck do Lee is probably

    [00:10:23] going to be there.

    [00:10:24] So, yeah, yeah.

    [00:10:25] Good old Chuck.

    [00:10:26] Good old Chuck.

    [00:10:27] Looking forward to it.

[00:10:28] So now to the nitty gritty, of course with I mean so many great tournaments coming up.

[00:10:33] The least of which is happening on the weekend of May 3rd through the fifth.

[00:10:38] It's the $10,000 Minnesota State Championships at De Blainebrook Brook Hall events center

    [00:10:43] Blaine Minnesota.

[00:10:45] And of course we are so and so happy and so privileged to have the promoter of this this

[00:10:53] great tournament coming up in Minnesota.

[00:10:55] His name is Seth Nelson.

    [00:10:56] Hello, Seth.

    [00:10:57] Hey, guys.

    [00:10:58] Hey guys.

[00:10:59] Thanks for having me on.

    [00:11:01] Oh, you're welcome, man.

[00:11:02] It's always great to hear about another big tournament coming up now just a quick background

    [00:11:09] on Minnesota State.

[00:11:11] How long has it been since there's been a tournament?

    [00:11:13] Oh, and I guess it's been like 16, 17 years.

    [00:11:18] Yeah, it's early 2000s.

    [00:11:21] Yeah.

    [00:11:22] No doubt.

    [00:11:23] Wow, it's a long time.

    [00:11:24] Why such a gap?

[00:11:26] Well, you know, I just think that the promoter that we had beforehand, he retired.

    [00:11:32] Okay.

[00:11:33] And nobody ever really just seemed to pick it up after that.

[00:11:35] We still had club foosball.

[00:11:37] We still had people that were playing obviously, but we were all still traveling to other

[00:11:42] states, playing in all these other tournaments.

[00:11:44] So when I started playing again, I was like, and we should really put a put our heads together

[00:11:49] and bring something back here, guys.

[00:11:52] And so yeah, we were able to do that through our campaign.

[00:11:55] So we raised some money last year through some sponsors and we've been adding since.

    [00:11:59] Very cool.

    [00:12:00] Wow.

    [00:12:01] Awesome.

    [00:12:02] Yeah, this is exciting.

[00:12:04] Now when it comes to Minnesota state, back when it was still active, what was like the

    [00:12:10] average turn out?

[00:12:11] Was it good sized usually?

[00:12:13] Well, I hadn't played in a ton of them.

[00:12:15] I only played in like, it was like the late 90s when I was just a kid out of college I

    [00:12:19] played.

[00:12:20] But I would say they probably had 150 to 200 people.

    [00:12:23] Oh, good.

    [00:12:24] And then.

    [00:12:25] Yeah.

[00:12:26] I think it was Nationals, oh, 506.

    [00:12:30] That was in Minneapolis.

[00:12:32] That was the first Nationals Billy ever, Billy tripled at that.

[00:12:35] Now you won singles doubles and mixed.

[00:12:37] Oh, that was the first time he won a major title like Minnesota has a really rich, fuzball,

    [00:12:44] history, great players.

    [00:12:46] Absolutely.

    [00:12:47] Come on, Minnesota.

    [00:12:48] Yeah.

[00:12:49] When I first started, they were having Minnesota state was running and then they were

[00:12:53] running a major through their Nationals.

[00:12:55] Yeah, the US open I think it was.

    [00:12:57] The US open.

[00:12:58] Yeah, they were running up.

[00:12:59] I mean, that part of the country was, I mean, there were so many great players coming

[00:13:04] out of there at that time.

[00:13:05] And then like you said, whoever was running it just kind of stopped and everything just

[00:13:09] kind of came to a halt.

[00:13:10] That's what happens when people, yeah, absolutely.

[00:13:13] But when you're inside with the weather here sometimes you're inside seven months out

    [00:13:19] of the year.

[00:13:20] Yeah, but pretty good at fuzball.

    [00:13:21] Yeah.

[00:13:22] I mean, and you guys like, you know, you got kids like Jacob now right?

    [00:13:28] Jacob's a Minnesota.

    [00:13:29] He's a Minnesota kid, right?

    [00:13:30] Oh, yeah.

    [00:13:31] Yeah.

    [00:13:32] Yeah.

    [00:13:33] Yeah.

[00:13:34] I get to play with him in his family quite a bit.

[00:13:36] So you guys are producing one of the absolute best players in the country right now.

[00:13:40] So in order to be producing that type of player, you have to have high quality players in

    [00:13:45] Minnesota.

[00:13:46] So, you know, that's, I mean, that's exciting to.

[00:13:50] So if you could just talk about, because you said you've been campaigning raising money

    [00:13:55] for a year.

[00:13:57] How much is actually, because I don't think like listeners or even a lot of fuzball players

[00:14:01] really know how much goes into creating a state event.

[00:14:04] Could you kind of walk us through like the beginning stages, the talking what it took

[00:14:09] and then building and going to now actually having it come to fruition?

    [00:14:14] Yeah.

[00:14:15] Well, it's a lot working with your local clubs.

[00:14:17] I mean, we've got fuzball players in the iron range Duluth all the way to Mancato, St.

    [00:14:24] Cloud.

[00:14:25] We've got people that are in Fargo area, which is kind of a sister to us with all the

[00:14:30] decodas and the players in South Dakota as well.

[00:14:34] But yeah, raising money was, as always, the hardest part, right?

    [00:14:38] Yeah.

[00:14:39] I mean, who's going to want to give money to some guy that hasn't played fuzball in 20

    [00:14:43] years?

    [00:14:44] Yeah.

[00:14:45] I mean, it's not my case, right?

[00:14:47] So I had to earn trust and I had to earn respect of a lot of the local people here to do so.

[00:14:53] But yeah, I mean, it takes an army almost.

[00:14:59] But it only takes really one person to get the thought started.

[00:15:02] So, you know, I was in a good position to do that.

[00:15:05] And so I decided that was something I was going to do to help everybody here.

[00:15:10] And people aren't going to come to Minnesota to play South Nelson fuzball.

[00:15:14] They're going to come here to play Jacob Belkos.

[00:15:15] And they're going to come here to play the pro players.

[00:15:17] And Eric and I and my most family.

    [00:15:20] Absolutely.

    [00:15:21] Shout out to Eric.

    [00:15:22] I know, I know Eric's listening.

[00:15:23] Shout out to Eric Belkos.

    [00:15:24] It's a buddy.

    [00:15:25] Yeah, yeah, E.B.

[00:15:26] Yeah, we call him E.V.

    [00:15:27] Yeah.

[00:15:28] But yeah, so by finding some small sponsors to start, that gave us a little bit of a pocket

    [00:15:34] book, right?

[00:15:35] So we were able to find a location that was willing to work with us and not, you know,

    [00:15:40] go just.

[00:15:41] I've run like, well, you should get the room for free.

[00:15:43] Well, you know, we don't have legs to stand on.

[00:15:46] So I don't, I can't go into a hotel and be like, well, we want this for free.

[00:15:49] We're going to have this many people.

    [00:15:50] Yeah.

    [00:15:51] Right.

[00:15:52] But we were able to find a place that was, it's a bowling alley.

    [00:15:54] Okay.

[00:15:55] Like Illinois State, if you've ever been there, you have a bowling alley and they have

    [00:15:58] like an event room.

[00:16:00] This is kind of similar to that where we can, the hotels are just a mile up the road

    [00:16:05] not very far.

[00:16:08] So that was great to have Blainebrook work with us on a really fair price.

    [00:16:11] Very cool.

[00:16:12] And then just getting sponsors to, to, especially whether it's an event that they're

[00:16:17] going to have some of the things we did to get creative was, you know, if you put $500

[00:16:23] up, you get your sponsorship fee, which includes gets your business logo on the table.

[00:16:28] You get it on the t-shirts and then you also, yeah, so we have to kind of package it,

    [00:16:34] right?

    [00:16:35] It's a player friendly week, right?

[00:16:38] I mean the people that play, other ones that pay.

[00:16:41] So we don't have big sponsors and foosball as you guys know.

[00:16:45] But I just finding those, those few sponsors to start us off and we have inkwell tattoos.

[00:16:50] You know, he's a guy in Hibbing that cool that we've known and he plays and he owns a tattoo

[00:16:56] power or any, he wants to give us money.

[00:16:58] So Andy was a big part of that.

[00:17:00] And then my wife's company in Minneapolis here they do a lot of printing and they're

[00:17:05] doing some things where they can be a fulfillment center for some of the merchandise and things

[00:17:09] we're looking for designing a logo, you know, finding somebody that loves foosball.

[00:17:14] I love your logo by the way.

[00:17:16] I love you that love and do a logo.

    [00:17:17] Love your logo.

    [00:17:18] It's really cool.

[00:17:19] It looks, it has a, yeah, it has kind of like a Native American sort of vibe to it.

[00:17:25] Is that is that intentional?

[00:17:26] Yeah, that was the idea was a, was a totem pole.

    [00:17:28] Yeah.

[00:17:29] We experimented with a lot of different designs but kind of like this one, it plays

[00:17:33] well on t-shirts and things like that we want to do.

[00:17:36] The original thought was a very technical totem pole, right?

[00:17:40] Very artistic intricate pieces of foosball that we can put in the totem pole.

[00:17:45] In the end, it didn't really show well on merchandise and things.

[00:17:49] So we made some changes and I'm actually glad we did.

[00:17:52] I think it looks great.

    [00:17:53] Simple is always better.

    [00:17:54] Oh sure.

    [00:17:55] Simple.

    [00:17:56] Simple is nice.

[00:17:57] Something we can associate it's clean.

[00:17:59] It shows up on the flyer beautifully.

[00:18:02] And yeah, that was one of the first things I noticed about it was that logo.

    [00:18:07] Kudos.

    [00:18:08] Appreciate it guys.

    [00:18:09] Yeah, yeah.

[00:18:10] That was done by a really good friend of mine, Eric Berkies out of Tampa Bay.

    [00:18:13] He's a logo guy.

[00:18:14] He does a lot of work.

    [00:18:15] Yeah, okay.

[00:18:16] Shout out to the logo guy.

[00:18:18] This is, this is the way it makes it, you make it happen that way.

[00:18:22] Incidentally, you know, you talk about sponsorships.

[00:18:26] It seems you and the folks from Wisconsin state really have this thing down.

[00:18:31] You really got an idea is to okay, we're going to sponsor each table.

[00:18:34] We're going to put logos out there.

[00:18:36] Is that a tough sell?

    [00:18:38] No, not really.

[00:18:41] You know, people that have a connection to Fuzball, I was surprised how many people found

[00:18:45] me and wanted to help support what we're doing.

[00:18:49] Even in our final stages here, a month out, right?

[00:18:51] We still need some money.

[00:18:53] We put forward for tables to put forward for merchandise.

[00:18:56] So we've had some other people step up and we've honored them with a free package play

[00:19:00] that you can have any type of an event that you do if you can put money up.

[00:19:06] So we've gotten really creative with that throughout throughout the whole year.

[00:19:10] No, and Wisconsin has been growing exponentially.

    [00:19:15] Yeah.

[00:19:16] What Michael's all been doing to Michigan has been growing every year and I feel like

[00:19:20] you guys are all right there in that part of the country and Fuzball is just continuing

    [00:19:26] to grow.

[00:19:27] And I think that the model you're building could, if some people would be willing to jump

[00:19:34] on board and maybe do a little work, could grow nationally with the tour because we've

    [00:19:38] been talking for years.

[00:19:39] I mean, it's been the main, I guess, kind of sore spot for Fuzball is why don't we have

    [00:19:44] sponsors, right?

[00:19:45] Because everybody wants to go get Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Bud Light.

[00:19:51] You know, like, why don't we just get, you know, like grassroots sponsors who are willing

[00:19:55] to, you know, fund Fuzball at the grass level and make it happen and help grow and then

    [00:20:02] go from there.

[00:20:03] So I think what you guys are doing are great.

[00:20:04] I've heard nothing but good stuff.

[00:20:07] Like Minnesota is going to be well supported from what I hear.

    [00:20:11] Yes.

    [00:20:12] I certainly hope so.

[00:20:13] And we did a really good response.

[00:20:14] We had early registration start last week and I saw that there's already like, I think

    [00:20:18] 44 people.

    [00:20:19] Oh nice.

[00:20:20] I just heard it in the first few days.

    [00:20:21] So yeah, that's great.

[00:20:23] And it's like why reinvent the wheel?

    [00:20:24] Right?

[00:20:25] Wisconsin has done a really good job and so is Michigan year after year after year.

[00:20:29] I just kind of took what they did and put it into a model that will work here and self-decoded

    [00:20:35] does the same thing.

[00:20:37] And they were able to help us in getting them.

[00:20:40] We hired them to him ever at Karma Burfield, really good people.

    [00:20:44] Yeah.

[00:20:45] Karma has helped out in Wisconsin as well.

[00:20:47] She was super happy that we're bringing something here back to Minnesota and she was all on

[00:20:52] board and Brett Newian, Michael Stahl.

[00:20:55] I took a lot of advice from a lot of them and I've modeled a lot of things they did.

    [00:20:59] So could we?

    [00:21:00] That's just smart.

[00:21:02] Like you said, why invent the wheel?

    [00:21:03] Yeah.

[00:21:04] Why do you more work?

    [00:21:05] Right?

[00:21:06] And Drift or Radio is chiming in on the chat here.

[00:21:10] Drift or Radio says just need a sponsorship blueprint and then just make it simple.

    [00:21:14] Right?

    [00:21:15] Make it simple.

[00:21:16] Give them a couple cookie cutter options.

[00:21:18] This is what we need.

[00:21:19] This is what we're looking for here so you can help.

    [00:21:21] This is great.

    [00:21:22] And I think you're right.

[00:21:24] Nike, I don't know, monster drinks, things like this.

[00:21:28] I mean, sure, that would be nice but it's still, this is not where it's grown.

[00:21:34] Oh, grass roots is where it's like foos gadgets.

[00:21:37] Big spots are there in Michigan.

[00:21:38] I mean, that's like foosball related, right?

[00:21:41] That's more of stuff like that we need.

[00:21:44] And I was telling Tom, too before we started that, you know, I own a vending machine business

[00:21:50] and I thought, well, how can I integrate this into foosball?

[00:21:54] And you know, we all sit in this room for three days, right?

[00:21:56] Or four days playing foosball.

[00:21:58] And there are food options but, and there's not usually a snack machine there.

[00:22:03] So I have an opportunity where I negotiated to have the snack machine in the room because

[00:22:08] I am a sponsor and I am putting up.

    [00:22:10] Come on, dude.

[00:22:11] Like I really want to snickers right now.

[00:22:13] Like I want to snickers and I can't get one.

    [00:22:16] Wait, wait, wait, wait.

    [00:22:17] No, but a second.

[00:22:18] Tell him what kind of vending though that you have though.

[00:22:21] I mean, you're not quite as snitchy or something.

    [00:22:24] It's not.

[00:22:25] Yeah, my business is healthier for you, Minneapolis.

[00:22:29] So I do cater to some locations with students primarily.

[00:22:34] You know, they have special diet needs.

    [00:22:36] They can't have nuts.

    [00:22:37] I have a nut free machine.

[00:22:38] Yeah, got gluten free options and a lot of them.

[00:22:41] And no, I do still put junk food in there guys.

[00:22:44] Do not get me wrong.

[00:22:45] We're going to have nut goodies because the return of the nut goodie was a big tournament

[00:22:48] in the 80s and Minneapolis.

    [00:22:50] Yeah.

    [00:22:51] Nice.

[00:22:52] So I'm like, hey man, let's load up the nut goodies and put some little flyers out to

[00:22:55] remember the old days, right?

[00:22:56] Especially for the guys that that that thrived in that stuff back in the 80s.

    [00:23:00] Yeah, for sure.

    [00:23:01] Yeah, yeah, cool.

[00:23:02] No, it's it's so you know, the vibe of a tournament.

    [00:23:07] Now think about this.

[00:23:08] You know, I don't know how many tournaments you've gone to in your in your

[00:23:11] careers as a foosball player.

[00:23:13] But what was the biggest, the biggest moment that you discovered?

[00:23:17] Let's say a tournament and said, hey, this was so much fun.

[00:23:20] I mean, does that come to mind immediately?

[00:23:23] What, what, where was that?

[00:23:25] Yeah, it was kind of when I, yeah, it was when I got to play with Jacob Belko

[00:23:28] spec when he was 13.

[00:23:29] He had his first tournament.

    [00:23:30] 13th Wisconsin 2021.

    [00:23:32] Yeah.

[00:23:34] I, you know, I had always been a good foosball player, but I never had played in a lot of tournaments

[00:23:39] and Jacob was looking to want to play in tournaments.

[00:23:42] So yeah, him and his dad asked, hey, you know, would you want to play with my kid?

[00:23:47] And then at his first tournament in Wisconsin, hell yeah, man.

[00:23:52] And that was his breakout.

    [00:23:53] So nice.

[00:23:54] Good to see a player like that.

[00:23:55] And yeah, a lot of fun.

[00:23:57] So that tournament and just seeing where, where Brett had taken that tournament from the last

[00:24:03] time I had been to a tournament in Wisconsin was, was like 99, I think.

[00:24:08] So it was a long, long time.

[00:24:11] But yeah, definitely Wisconsin 2021 was, was, was the jet fuel.

    [00:24:16] Yeah.

    [00:24:17] The jet fuel.

    [00:24:18] I like that.

    [00:24:19] The jet fuel.

[00:24:20] That's power of this machine we call foosball.

    [00:24:22] Yeah.

[00:24:23] So, so I know Tom's going to ask you the question, but I'm just curious.

[00:24:26] Like, so when, when did you start?

[00:24:28] How long did you play and then how long is your, like, how long was your break before

[00:24:31] you got back into it?

    [00:24:32] Yeah.

    [00:24:33] It was 20 years.

    [00:24:34] I'm 47 now.

[00:24:35] You took one year break.

    [00:24:36] Wow.

[00:24:37] Yeah, I played in college.

[00:24:39] That's where I learned, you know, my, my grandma had a Deutsch Meister when I was really young

[00:24:44] and I just, that was like, oh, that's what a foosball table is.

    [00:24:46] Cool.

[00:24:47] Was that the first table you ever saw?

    [00:24:49] Yeah.

    [00:24:50] Okay.

    [00:24:51] There you go.

    [00:24:52] Yeah.

[00:24:53] No, no, I asked to start some place, right?

    [00:24:55] Yeah, it started.

[00:24:56] Yeah, they all spring loaded rods there.

    [00:24:58] They were fun.

    [00:24:59] The docks much.

    [00:25:00] Yeah.

[00:25:01] I mean, I think that's the first time I've ever seen a football table in college where it

[00:25:02] really took off and I remember like there was a group of us that went to Wisconsin and

[00:25:05] we're like, hey, we're pretty good at foosball.

[00:25:08] You know, we've been playing in college and then get there, you know, the typical right

    [00:25:12] two-foot college kids.

    [00:25:13] Got it.

[00:25:14] Oh, that's how you play foosball.

    [00:25:17] Oh, yeah.

    [00:25:18] Okay.

[00:25:19] I'll learn how to do that.

    [00:25:20] Yeah.

[00:25:21] I love the expression on people's faces, you know, when they walk past and they see someone

    [00:25:25] playing like, I don't know.

[00:25:27] I always use the example of Sammy Dejon because at times, you know, in the past when he was

[00:25:31] first playing, he was standing on a box, you know?

[00:25:34] His hands are just big enough to fit around the rods and see somebody walk past and see

[00:25:39] this kid just wailing on the adults and they're kind of like, oh, oh, I used to play this

    [00:25:46] game.

    [00:25:47] No thanks.

[00:25:48] I'll see you again, you know.

[00:25:49] I'm using on this side of it now though.

[00:25:51] Like you're not on the other side of it.

[00:25:53] You're the one that, oh people are like, oh, that's nice.

    [00:25:55] Yeah.

[00:25:56] I used to be really good at this.

[00:25:58] Like, I think I was like the best at it.

    [00:26:00] Yeah.

    [00:26:01] Like in college.

[00:26:02] I was like, I was like the best in the world.

    [00:26:04] Uh-huh.

    [00:26:05] Yeah.

    [00:26:06] Right.

    [00:26:07] I heard that before.

    [00:26:08] Oh, so fun.

    [00:26:09] No idea.

    [00:26:10] No idea.

    [00:26:11] I love it.

[00:26:12] I just think and love it.

[00:26:13] So when you started playing, you know, back back in the 90s, like there were, I mean,

[00:26:18] there were a lot of big name players in Minnesota's like who are guys you chased who

[00:26:23] were influential players that you kind of followed around and learned from.

[00:26:26] Well, it really wasn't really any professional players that I knew at the time because I was

[00:26:30] so young as a college kid.

[00:26:33] But you know, the names that we know like furry and whiz well those were the names that

    [00:26:36] were in Minnesota foosball.

[00:26:39] And still still a great story with a sad ending, but still, I mean, it's just unbelievable

[00:26:46] how these kids on the orange could just take the world like that.

    [00:26:50] Right.

[00:26:51] It was really a cool story.

    [00:26:52] Yeah.

[00:26:53] I've furry and whiz well.

[00:26:54] I mean, you think about the crash that took place with tournament soccer in 1981, I believe

[00:27:00] it was and how things came to a sudden screeching halt.

[00:27:05] And a lot of that was revolving around that part of the country.

    [00:27:08] You think about it?

    [00:27:10] Wow.

[00:27:11] Traumatic to say the least.

    [00:27:13] Yeah.

    [00:27:14] Really?

[00:27:15] Now have you made friends with people from that era at all?

    [00:27:18] Well, yeah.

[00:27:19] I mean, there's a lot of guys that are pros today that are still hanging around.

[00:27:23] You know, you got Doug Rangel and Mike Brazil, guys like that.

    [00:27:26] Oh yeah.

    [00:27:27] Really?

[00:27:28] They don't local pros that have taken a liking to not only what I'm doing, but what we're

[00:27:32] building here as far as on our weekly draws that we do and getting those guys more involved.

    [00:27:38] Yeah.

[00:27:39] I mean, you know, Eric Velco's now I've become really good friends with Eric too.

    [00:27:44] Yes.

[00:27:45] You know, the ball of people that I've played football with that guy never gets tired

    [00:27:49] of playing football.

    [00:27:50] So we did.

[00:27:51] We have to point out like, okay, it's time for bad guys.

    [00:27:55] Yeah.

[00:27:56] It's good to have people like that for sure.

    [00:27:59] Yeah.

[00:28:00] Now, Dave, they've got Mason's Minnesota guy, right?

    [00:28:03] Yeah, go Mason.

[00:28:04] He doesn't come out much to play, but I know he's been involved with, I talked to him

[00:28:08] because I would love to have him be involved with our tournament and help with the pro

    [00:28:12] clinic things like that.

[00:28:14] So we're going to hope to get to give him there as well.

[00:28:17] And then I think Steve Moes was Steve Moes a Minnesota guy.

[00:28:22] Think he was, yeah, but I don't know Steve.

[00:28:24] You know, Steve, yeah, he kind of fell off the face of the earth and like the mid 2000s.

[00:28:28] I don't know what happened to that guy, but he used to be good.

[00:28:31] He had a great five.

[00:28:34] But yeah, I mean, I think I think Johnny Horton lived in Minnesota for a while.

    [00:28:38] That sounds right.

    [00:28:39] Yeah.

    [00:28:40] Yeah.

[00:28:41] Minnesota, you guys, you guys had some real studs up there.

[00:28:45] And you know, I always wanted like that nationals that Billy tripled that I wanted to go so

    [00:28:50] bad and I couldn't make it.

[00:28:52] That just that whole region, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, like I want to

[00:28:59] hit, they're all on my bucket list.

[00:29:00] I want to hit them all but love to have you guys, man.

    [00:29:03] Love it.

    [00:29:04] Love it.

[00:29:05] Just work and life and just everything.

[00:29:07] You know, it's if only we could find a major sponsor and you know, and oh man, I could

    [00:29:14] make money playing Fuzball.

    [00:29:16] No, no, no.

[00:29:19] The love of the game is what drives players.

[00:29:21] That's what people don't understand like where were Fuzball players subsidizing Fuzball

    [00:29:25] for other players?

[00:29:26] So it's like a tournament like this when you can get when you can get grassroots sponsors.

[00:29:31] It's worth it just I mean, like I said, Michigan, I had buddies from Massachusetts that drove

[00:29:36] to Michigan State and they told me it was one of the best tournaments that I've ever

    [00:29:40] been to.

[00:29:41] I've had I've had other people tell me they've gone to Wisconsin and they're like, dude,

    [00:29:45] I love it.

[00:29:46] You got to go and you know, again, if that's what you're modeling your tournament after,

[00:29:51] it can only be, you know, it's only going to be a good tournament.

    [00:29:54] That's all I can imagine so.

    [00:29:55] Absolutely.

[00:29:56] And if I can, I was going to tell you guys, you know, Shell's brewery is a brewery in

[00:30:01] New Orleans, Minnesota and we had an event there this weekend.

[00:30:05] Thanks to Josh Sarpy, a guy like him who works so hard in promoting as well.

    [00:30:10] Okay.

[00:30:11] So we have an opportunity, get an opportunity to have a small tournament.

[00:30:15] We had eight tables this weekend at Shell's brewery.

    [00:30:18] Awesome venue man.

[00:30:19] I mean, really cool old school German brewery in New Orleans, Minnesota.

[00:30:24] It's closer to Mancato, so it's more south west of Minneapolis, but a large amount of

[00:30:29] people from our clubs came down there.

[00:30:31] I think we had 44 players last night in the draw.

    [00:30:34] 44.

[00:30:35] That was really good showing for the brewery.

[00:30:39] And so we're looking at Shell's now, Shell's put up money for our tournament too originally.

[00:30:44] And so looking down the road and some of the things that we can do with Shell's, I'm hoping

[00:30:49] for good things guys because if we can get a good brewery to do a sponsor like that,

[00:30:54] what's stopping another brewery from doing it?

[00:30:56] And why not have a battle of the breweries?

    [00:30:58] There you go.

    [00:30:59] A team brewery.

[00:31:00] Oh, these are, you know, these aren't breweries and things like that.

[00:31:03] They sponsor bowling teams, dart leagues, things like that.

[00:31:06] We're not far off of that.

[00:31:08] So yeah, you should be welcome to do that.

    [00:31:12] Yeah.

[00:31:13] So you keep talking about clubs.

[00:31:17] Can you kind of give us some insight on like your clubs and what, how many clubs you guys

    [00:31:22] have?

    [00:31:23] Yeah, good question.

    [00:31:24] Yeah.

[00:31:25] We've got, well, we'll start up in Northern Minnesota.

[00:31:27] So we've got the Iron Range player, players up there, Iron Range Fools ball.

[00:31:32] So that's everything from Hibbing to Virginia, the northern most part of Minnesota.

    [00:31:38] And they're a great club.

[00:31:39] They travel well as far as they have to travel.

[00:31:42] I mean, they're going to have to travel the farthest than anyone.

[00:31:46] Duluth has another good club.

[00:31:48] They do tournaments every year.

[00:31:50] The Iron Range though, they're having their Iron Cup so up there.

    [00:31:53] The Iron Cup.

    [00:31:54] Cool.

[00:31:55] Yeah, that's, that's, you know, that is the Iron Range.

    [00:31:58] That's what they're in order for.

[00:31:59] So the, the Iron Cup is their Fools ball tournament that they do in April.

[00:32:02] So that would be a warm up to our tournament this year.

[00:32:05] It would be the weekend before during the, um, the Iron Cup.

    [00:32:08] I'm curious.

[00:32:09] Are they going to be wearing Viking helmets?

    [00:32:11] And you know what?

    [00:32:12] Don't rule it out.

    [00:32:13] Yeah.

[00:32:14] You can get pretty wild up there.

[00:32:16] Oh, you got snow on the ground sometimes up there at the late April.

    [00:32:19] So yeah.

[00:32:21] It's an L. I should mention that, uh, here in upstate New York, one of our past

[00:32:25] times is watching snow melt to say it better than watching paint dry, right?

    [00:32:31] I don't know.

[00:32:32] It's like, um, yeah, what do I have?

[00:32:36] And then we play football.

[00:32:38] Then we play Fools ball.

    [00:32:39] Yeah.

    [00:32:39] So, but yeah.

[00:32:41] So then we have the Twin ports, uh, Fools ball club out of Duluth and Superior.

[00:32:46] So they have a big, uh, a big part of our tournament as well.

[00:32:49] And then Minneapolis is really mostly Minnesota Fools ball.

[00:32:52] We've got a Fools ball site, um, uh, Minnesota Fools ball on Facebook

    [00:32:57] and so to Foolsball.com.

    [00:32:58] Mm hmm.

[00:32:59] So that's kind of our hub.

[00:33:00] That's where most of the players are.

[00:33:02] And then even St. Cloud, you go out west to here.

[00:33:05] We've got Central Fools ball club, central Minnesota Fools ball club.

    [00:33:10] Then Mancato.

[00:33:11] So Mancato is just a bit south of Minneapolis about an hour and a half and

    [00:33:17] they've got their clubs.

[00:33:18] So that was kind of the part that we had to organize, right?

[00:33:21] Let's bring these clubs together rather than, you know, it's good to have

[00:33:25] all our little independent tournaments in these cities.

[00:33:27] But this is an opportunity for us to bring all these clubs together and showcase

[00:33:32] our talents and invite the best in the world to come play with us.

    [00:33:35] Wow.

    [00:33:36] This is this.

    [00:33:36] I don't know about you.

[00:33:38] I, this sounds like the makings of the model that we've been waiting for when

[00:33:42] it comes to league foosball leagues, leagues in different towns.

[00:33:46] And of course, you know, once you've built your team, you got your, you got

    [00:33:49] your logo.

[00:33:50] You got your T shirt on.

[00:33:51] You go and you go ahead to head with the other league, you know, teams,

[00:33:55] other clubs, yeah, the other clubs and man, then Venice like, okay, now we've

[00:34:00] done this within the state.

[00:34:01] Now let's go against other states.

    [00:34:03] Other states, yeah.

    [00:34:05] To say it.

[00:34:06] I always thought of a really cool event.

[00:34:08] And down the road, this is something I would like to do like on a world cup

    [00:34:11] here.

[00:34:12] And maybe you guys have seen, I think there's been tournaments like this.

[00:34:16] But you have a team event within the event within the tournament.

[00:34:19] So it's not another event.

[00:34:21] But if you have a team that has a beginner woman, uh, uh, you got your

[00:34:28] rookie, you got your expert in your amateur and your pro, right?

[00:34:30] You got a team of like six people wherever those people finish in their

[00:34:34] independent rankings and their divisions,

[00:34:36] they have a cumulative score and we have a team event around that.

[00:34:39] So you don't have to add another event, right?

[00:34:41] Just play your events and then it's a, it's like a team action.

[00:34:44] So basically, basically which state wins the tournament based on where they

[00:34:49] finish in their individual events?

    [00:34:52] Yeah.

    [00:34:52] Love that.

[00:34:53] And it's all cumulative over each rank.

    [00:34:55] It's something I like it.

[00:34:56] Something I want to look into more.

[00:34:58] We're not doing it obviously this year with bare bones, but

[00:35:01] I do have some different events at our tournament that I'd love to talk about.

[00:35:05] I like to really get more people involved.

[00:35:07] You know, the senior event was one of the events because we have a really big

[00:35:12] environment of old people that play foosball, right?

[00:35:15] And so what I'm doing with that.

[00:35:16] So we have to have an event for them, right?

    [00:35:20] That's drink your jar.

    [00:35:21] I told you.

    [00:35:23] Just cut it out.

    [00:35:27] Got it right here.

    [00:35:29] There you go.

    [00:35:30] Yeah.

    [00:35:33] Quit playing 47.

    [00:35:34] You look like a 27.

    [00:35:36] Not gonna.

    [00:35:36] Thanks man.

    [00:35:37] I appreciate it.

[00:35:38] I'm just sure my beard was greater than my man.

    [00:35:42] That's why I'm actually 27.

    [00:35:44] Yes.

[00:35:44] I've just lived the rough life.

[00:35:47] But no, look that that that state thing is a really good idea.

    [00:35:51] Man, I like it.

    [00:35:53] Yeah.

    [00:35:54] That's pretty good.

    [00:35:55] I really like that.

    [00:35:57] It'd be cool.

[00:35:58] If all you had your own state tournament where you could implicate that and see how it goes.

    [00:36:02] Oh, right.

    [00:36:03] Right.

    [00:36:04] What may be

    [00:36:06] maybe.

    [00:36:07] Yeah.

[00:36:08] No, it's a I still remember the New York state cup back in the day when we're still doing the state's

[00:36:13] the state championship and man that was a blast because everybody got into it.

[00:36:17] There was yelling and screaming and you know basically just just may have when the the the

[00:36:22] cup competition was going on.

    [00:36:24] Yeah.

[00:36:25] Between the different cities and stuff.

[00:36:27] You know, it's just just a blast.

[00:36:29] Yeah, I stole the cup.

[00:36:30] Adam Emmons and I stole the cup.

    [00:36:32] You're the one.

    [00:36:33] You stole.

    [00:36:33] Yeah, you wouldn't.

[00:36:34] Yeah, you wouldn't let us play because we had stand pull out the honor team and he was from

    [00:36:38] Hampshire, Vermont or whatever.

[00:36:39] So it was I remember was Ron Olson complaint big Ron Olson complaint.

    [00:36:44] I don't run.

    [00:36:44] Yep.

    [00:36:45] Yeah.

[00:36:45] It was Bruce Welton Adam Emmons myself and then we had stand pull out skiner team and he

[00:36:49] complained so they wouldn't let us play because Ron complained freaking Ron.

    [00:36:53] Wow.

[00:36:53] Adam and Adam and I got mad and we snatched the cup off the desk and ran to our room and hit it in

    [00:36:58] our room.

    [00:37:00] I remember New York state 2015.

    [00:37:02] 2015.

    [00:37:04] Yeah.

    [00:37:04] That's a good tournament.

    [00:37:05] Yeah.

[00:37:08] This is this is, well, this is the stuff we have to put up with when it comes to these dudes

    [00:37:13] from Massachusetts.

[00:37:15] When you want to know, you know, I mean, listen, it is what it is.

[00:37:19] Why that's why to keep a lawyer on retainer?

    [00:37:21] Okay.

    [00:37:21] Yep.

[00:37:22] By the way, when we steal your stuff in Minnesota, it's like, oh, so sorry.

[00:37:26] We're going to have back.

    [00:37:26] Oh, it's called Minnesota.

    [00:37:30] Nice.

    [00:37:31] That's what that is.

    [00:37:32] Right.

[00:37:32] So I took that nice concept, Tom.

[00:37:35] So we're having two events around the Minnesota nice concept.

[00:37:39] So Minnesota nice dyp will be one of the events.

    [00:37:42] Wait, that's a real thing.

    [00:37:43] It's a real thing.

    [00:37:44] Yeah.

[00:37:44] So you have to be nice.

[00:37:45] You have to compliment people's shots.

[00:37:46] There's no being an asshole.

    [00:37:48] So nice.

    [00:37:52] Okay.

    [00:37:54] Come on.

    [00:37:55] That's dyp.

    [00:37:56] Yeah.

    [00:37:56] Minnesota nice dyp.

[00:37:58] And then we are going to experiment with a program.

    [00:38:01] Minnesota nice program.

[00:38:03] So we'll have team event there because I think that's another connection that we need to make.

[00:38:08] Is the connection between beginners and masters because you gotta look at it this way too.

[00:38:13] When a beginner goes to a tournament, they want to draw a master.

[00:38:16] All the master goes to a tournament.

[00:38:18] They don't want to draw a beginner.

[00:38:19] So we have to we have to mend that together and have an a program event where they're forced to team up.

[00:38:26] We'll be, um, we'll be a really fun event.

    [00:38:29] Yeah.

    [00:38:30] I'm a fan of I'm a fan of programs true programs.

    [00:38:32] Yeah.

    [00:38:33] I'm a fan of programs.

    [00:38:34] I am.

    [00:38:34] Yeah.

[00:38:35] We got added money too.

[00:38:36] We have another sponsor new fab welding out of Minneapolis.

[00:38:39] That's stepped up on our players works there.

[00:38:42] So we got $500 added there to the program.

    [00:38:45] The program.

    [00:38:46] Oh, come on man.

    [00:38:47] That's that's incentive.

[00:38:48] Let's go masters and pros get your partner now.

[00:38:50] Hey, don't forget to be don't forget to be nice.

    [00:38:53] Yeah.

    [00:38:53] That's right.

    [00:38:54] You better.

    [00:38:54] That's a chunk of change.

[00:38:56] Um, no, I noticed in your flyer says $10,000 tournament.

[00:38:59] But there's also I know notice also elsewhere.

[00:39:02] It said $10,500 because of that.

[00:39:04] Yeah, I just changed that when we had that added money to that event.

    [00:39:07] So okay.

    [00:39:08] Okay.

[00:39:08] Number could go up yet this next month.

[00:39:10] I know Wisconsin did a really good job continuing that last month of their push to the tournament.

[00:39:17] They added more sponsors to more events.

[00:39:18] They had a women's sponsored event with added money.

    [00:39:21] Cool.

[00:39:22] So that's something that we would love to do.

    [00:39:23] It's a great opportunity for a woman's business.

    [00:39:25] Mm hmm.

[00:39:26] Why not give money to the to the woman's field?

[00:39:28] That would be another additive that we could do.

    [00:39:31] Um, yeah.

[00:39:32] Any events I have another realtor I talked with today.

[00:39:35] That's a player that wants to throw added money into one of the events.

[00:39:39] So I'm going to try to get that round up here.

    [00:39:42] Yeah.

    [00:39:43] Yeah.

[00:39:43] No, my this stop working is because you said real tomorrow.

    [00:39:47] I don't have nothing.

    [00:39:48] Yeah.

    [00:39:49] Yeah.

    [00:39:51] You're next.

    [00:39:52] I know.

    [00:39:53] Cut of sin.

    [00:39:54] I don't know.

[00:39:55] We'll just take two percent of your, uh, your, your gross.

[00:39:58] That's all 2% I barely get to present on what are you doing?

    [00:40:03] Come on.

[00:40:05] Uh, so I got to ask you this.

[00:40:07] Seth, I mean, you've got, you know, a lot of, a lot of possibilities going on.

[00:40:11] What do you, how do you feel about this idea of championship format?

[00:40:15] Is that something you, you would make use of or you're going to wait on that?

[00:40:19] No, I will tell me more championship format.

[00:40:22] What do I, what am I missing?

    [00:40:23] Yep.

[00:40:23] So what it is when you're competing, let's say in the open events, um, if you lose in your,

[00:40:29] let's say of a first round, uh, you end up in the loser's bracket.

[00:40:33] Now it is double elimination.

[00:40:35] However, the best you can possibly do from loser's bracket is third place.

[00:40:39] So in other words, yeah, the finals are, are, are, it's just between the two teams that haven't lost.

    [00:40:44] Okay.

[00:40:46] And it's, it's something they tested at the TKO and Kentucky this year.

[00:40:51] Uh, and there was a, yeah, they did.

    [00:40:52] That's right.

    [00:40:52] Yeah.

[00:40:53] But I'm wondering, and the winners bracket, winners bracket matches are timed.

    [00:40:56] Mm hmm.

[00:40:57] So so everything's, they, they give a time frame between between the winners bracket matches.

[00:41:02] So everybody who stays in the winners knows when they're going to play.

[00:41:05] And then the loser's bracket, if you get put in the losers, you just, you play through to

[00:41:10] winner the losers and then winner, the losers finish his third.

[00:41:13] And then the two teams up play for King's seat, whoever wins wins a tournament, whoever finishes,

[00:41:18] where it doesn't win gets second.

    [00:41:20] Okay.

    [00:41:20] Yeah.

    [00:41:22] I like it.

[00:41:23] And some, some were kind of, um, you know, um, ambivalent or not really didn't care one way

[00:41:28] the other, but there were some that were vehemently against it and then others that were really into it.

    [00:41:33] Yeah.

[00:41:34] Hey, I'm up for trying new stuff.

    [00:41:35] I, yeah, really.

[00:41:36] I mean, that's, I think what makes Fuzball fun.

[00:41:38] One of the things that we wanted to do was a no conflict monster draw, right?

[00:41:44] A lot of people play these monster formats, Swiss formats.

[00:41:47] Why aren't we integrating this into a state tournament?

[00:41:49] So we decided that we're going to try this at Minnesota.

    [00:41:54] Okay.

[00:41:54] Last, um, DYP on Sunday will be no conflict, but it'll be monster.

[00:41:59] So that'll be run separate.

    [00:42:00] Very cool.

    [00:42:01] We use kicker tool.

    [00:42:02] We'll do something different.

[00:42:03] So we ran it at shells last night, just a sample.

[00:42:08] We had, I think we had close to 40 people in that event.

[00:42:13] Um, and we just paid out like, we didn't even do the teamings.

[00:42:17] Like we didn't even go to the part where you play so many rounds and then you get a permanent partner.

[00:42:22] You just ran it wherever had the highest BH percentage, which I'm not sure what it is, but it's the calculator

[00:42:28] that they use based on your goals against and goals for right with loss percentage and all that.

[00:42:32] So, um, that's an interesting concept.

[00:42:35] So that'll be a trial that we'll do for our last, our last draw.

[00:42:39] So that should be fun.

[00:42:40] I think we got to try to try to integrate that stuff into a state tournament.

[00:42:44] We, we swear by the monster format here, you know, in the local DYP, we do it every week now.

[00:42:49] And it's just, we don't want to go back.

[00:42:51] Nobody wants to go back to the, you know, the double elimination anymore because we get to play and everybody gets to play.

[00:42:57] And you get to, it's a social, social event too.

[00:42:59] You know, you're not forced with the same person all the time and we have to talk with each other.

    [00:43:04] Right?

[00:43:04] I mean, we always are competitive with each other, but it's good to communicate and have that cross partner, you know, type relationship.

    [00:43:12] No doubt.

    [00:43:12] Absolutely.

    [00:43:13] Absolutely.

[00:43:13] So, uh, Drift the radio over here on Twitch is, is asking if, if sponsors are hearing this and wanting to get in touch with you,

[00:43:22] what's the best means or best way for them to get a hold of you about Minnesota state?

[00:43:28] Yeah, they can call me direct.

[00:43:29] I can leave a phone number in the email address.

[00:43:31] I know it's on the flyer too.

[00:43:33] I think my phone numbers are right on there.

[00:43:34] So you can be called, give me a text or the Facebook page on the social news ball.

[00:43:39] Uh, you're not going to find anything there.

[00:43:41] I mean, that is like our post site.

    [00:43:44] It's on the flyer.

    [00:43:44] The flyer itself, yeah.

[00:43:46] So they can find the flyer at Minnesota, Fuzball their Facebook page.

    [00:43:49] Yes.

[00:43:50] And then your numbers on there.

[00:43:51] So if they want to get a hold of you, all they got to do is find the flyer for the 2024 Minnesota state,

[00:43:56] Fuzball, and we can post it here if you guys need to or whatever we need to do.

    [00:44:00] Yeah, perfect.

[00:44:01] Can give you that perfect.

[00:44:03] I'm curious about some people have reached out to me and wanting to do that.

    [00:44:06] So I've, yeah, yeah.

[00:44:08] I think Drifter Radio's want to get hold of you to, uh, to sponsor you.

[00:44:13] I think he said in Twitch, he wants to give you like a million dollars.

    [00:44:16] Let's go.

    [00:44:17] I'll take it.

    [00:44:18] That'd be great.

    [00:44:18] Rock and roll.

    [00:44:19] Let's go.

[00:44:20] No, no, there's support to our start right there.

[00:44:23] Just, yeah, he just said, yep.

[00:44:24] In the chat, he said, yep, done deal.

[00:44:27] I'm gonna get in my phone.

    [00:44:28] You heard it here.

    [00:44:31] Yeah.

[00:44:33] By the way, Drifter Radio is with us just about every week and we do appreciate Drifter Radio

[00:44:37] and everybody else who tunes on on twitchTV.com.

    [00:44:40] It's a, you know, it's, it's, it's a, well, it makes us feel good.

[00:44:43] Let's put it that way.

    [00:44:44] Yes.

    [00:44:45] Yeah.

    [00:44:45] But wow.

[00:44:46] Um, I'm, I'm really curious, you know, when it comes to this, this, this idea of pushing forward,

[00:44:52] um, I know expectations are one thing, but what will you consider a successful weekend

[00:44:58] when it comes to your tournament?

[00:44:59] What, what is that going to look like for you?

[00:45:03] I think it would be a successful weekend if we can just make a little bit of money

[00:45:07] to give us that start to do it again next year.

[00:45:10] I'd hate to have us lose money and then next year we got to start from scratch

[00:45:14] all over again, do a campaign.

    [00:45:16] Yeah.

[00:45:17] You know, get new sponsors or get some of the same old, but that's really the deal.

[00:45:22] If we can break even, I would be just fine with that.

[00:45:25] I mean, but I'm hoping the expectation is that if we can pull 180 players,

[00:45:31] uh, or more, we'll, according to my calculations, we'll make money.

    [00:45:37] Nice calculations.

    [00:45:39] I like that.

[00:45:39] Somebody actually thinking ahead about this.

[00:45:42] You know, wait, what is numbers?

    [00:45:44] Don't lie.

    [00:45:45] What are calculations?

    [00:45:46] What is it?

    [00:45:47] What is it?

    [00:45:47] Calculate what is it?

[00:45:48] So how far are you like Canada?

[00:45:51] How long does it take Canadians to get to your place?

    [00:45:54] It's not far.

[00:45:54] I mean, when it pays about an eight hour drive, I think it's, yeah, it's not doable.

[00:46:01] But the same to, I think Kentucky from here to Kentucky is around, around the same.

    [00:46:06] Nice.

[00:46:08] Yeah, we would love to have a lot of Canadian players come.

    [00:46:11] I don't know if there's a lot in central.

[00:46:14] I always hear about, you know, the Toronto and the West Coast.

    [00:46:17] Toronto, Toronto seems big.

    [00:46:18] Oh, yeah.

    [00:46:19] That is great.

[00:46:20] And I know that they've represented when I was in Michigan that year, there were,

[00:46:24] there was quite a few Canadian people there.

[00:46:27] Yeah, we had been, they've been coming out more a lot more now that COVID restrictions have kind of softened up.

    [00:46:32] They're, uh, they're, they're coming out, man.

    [00:46:35] They're playing football.

[00:46:36] So, uh, I would, uh, I would assume again, I don't like to assume, but I think it's safe to say that you're probably,

[00:46:43] you're going to see a few of your tournaments.

    [00:46:45] So I love it.

    [00:46:46] That's great.

    [00:46:47] Yeah.

[00:46:48] We talked to the Mario, uh, from Ottawa last week about the, the, the, the, the Hall of Fame,

[00:46:55] Hall of Fame event that's happening this weekend.

[00:46:57] And yeah, they're, they're, they're really coalescing around, uh,

    [00:47:01] Fuzball as well.

[00:47:03] Although I just met noticed, uh, uh,

[00:47:05] Iner Fuzer says unfortunately, Winnipeg is the only major Canadian city without Fuzball,

[00:47:10] which is sound sounds kind of shocking, but yeah.

    [00:47:14] Yeah.

    [00:47:14] You know,

    [00:47:14] so get it started.

    [00:47:16] Yeah, make it happen.

    [00:47:17] Yep.

    [00:47:17] It's moved to Winnipeg.

[00:47:21] I'm about to do that.

[00:47:22] They don't have Fuzball and their hockey teams not that good either.

    [00:47:25] So sorry.

    [00:47:27] That's right.

    [00:47:28] Your leaf fan, right?

    [00:47:29] Yeah.

    [00:47:30] It's the truth.

    [00:47:31] Yeah.

    [00:47:31] Sorry.

    [00:47:31] A release fan.

[00:47:32] When it, when it paid many toba, right?

    [00:47:34] That's, that's, uh, that's the province.

    [00:47:37] Monitoba.

    [00:47:37] Yeah.

[00:47:38] Uh, well, you know, actually though the Maple Leafs and the Vikings have a lot in common.

[00:47:43] They both have not won anything along.

    [00:47:46] Yeah.

    [00:47:46] Yeah.

[00:47:47] I think ours was 67 was the last time they want to stand like, so yeah, I mean,

[00:47:52] they're going to look at great offensive team.

    [00:47:54] They're goalie.

[00:47:55] The goalies won like last.

    [00:47:56] They've won.

[00:47:57] I saw sent today he's won like this last 17 to 21, but is, is,

[00:48:01] his goals against is like 3.5 is safe percentages like 850.

[00:48:06] He's only winning because they're putting up goals.

[00:48:08] They're going to go to the playoffs and they're going to probably lose in the first round.

    [00:48:11] So it doesn't matter.

[00:48:13] It's just so it's still fun to watch.

[00:48:15] Been so awhile then they didn't have their, their year this year either.

[00:48:19] They just with injuries and all that didn't work out.

[00:48:22] But you know, if I can, I want to mention something because I know you play hockey too,

[00:48:27] Randy and I played hockey.

[00:48:29] And I tuned in a couple of weeks ago to ESPN 2 and I watched the table hockey championships.

    [00:48:35] Table hockey.

    [00:48:36] I saw that.

    [00:48:37] Yeah.

    [00:48:37] Yeah.

    [00:48:38] Yeah.

    [00:48:39] What is that?

[00:48:40] With a big bubble on the top of like bubble hockey.

    [00:48:42] Like bubble hockey.

    [00:48:44] Exactly.

[00:48:44] I mean, they have a connection to hockey and they exploit that.

[00:48:49] And I think that's one of the things that we need to do better here in the states is the

    [00:48:54] connection with soccer.

[00:48:56] So I did a couple of things guys and I'm hoping I get,

[00:48:58] I get some feedback back on it.

[00:49:01] But I wrote a letter to the Minnesota United, the professional team here in Minnesota.

[00:49:07] Like, hey, this is, he and Michael Stahl actually came up with this idea.

[00:49:11] Let's, let's put a letter together where you and I can kind of tag team on it because he wants to get USA.

[00:49:16] Fuzball clubs, you know, involved with more of the youth.

[00:49:20] And it starts at the soccer level really.

[00:49:23] I mean, these are where kids are going.

[00:49:24] So if we can get in the letter, I essentially introduced what Fuzball clubs USA is.

[00:49:31] We're partnering with tournament directors like myself.

[00:49:34] Not only to invite you to our tournament,

[00:49:37] but in hopes that we can maybe do a youth night at a professional soccer game where we have,

[00:49:42] yeah, we can have professional players and amateurs come out and teach kids.

[00:49:47] The same thing with there's a huge soccer.

[00:49:50] The junior world cup is here in Minnesota.

    [00:49:53] It's in blank.

[00:49:54] It's literally a mile from where our tournament is going to.

    [00:49:57] Whoa.

    [00:49:58] And it's a huge complex.

[00:49:59] They have eight hockey ranks that got a hundred soccer fields in there.

[00:50:04] But I did the same thing 100 soccer fields, 100 soccer fields.

    [00:50:08] That's a big play.

    [00:50:08] I mean, just eight ranks like that's that's a big plate.

[00:50:11] Come from all over the world.

[00:50:13] It's the world junior cup and blame Minnesota.

[00:50:15] So why wouldn't you do that?

[00:50:16] All over the world come.

[00:50:18] So my thought was, hey, why can't we get a exhibit booth at like the World Cup Junior?

[00:50:24] This is a way we can get kids to see soccer on the table.

[00:50:28] And these are the things I think that we need to really kind of dig our dig the seeds deep and start those roots there.

[00:50:35] That's beautiful from their people will talk kids will go back to school.

[00:50:39] We'll talk about, and that's I think how foosball clubs are born is just seeing it at that level.

    [00:50:44] Yeah.

[00:50:45] Man, that's thinking out of the box man.

    [00:50:47] It is.

    [00:50:47] Really good.

[00:50:48] That's really, really good stuff.

[00:50:50] Atlanta has a their MLS team is really good.

[00:50:53] They want a championship a few years ago.

    [00:50:55] Yeah.

[00:50:56] You know, there's the MLS.

[00:50:57] I think people forget that we actually have professional soccer in this country, but

[00:51:01] that we got met we got messy in the league now.

    [00:51:03] I mean, that's yeah.

    [00:51:04] Yeah.

    [00:51:05] Yeah.

    [00:51:05] I mean, that's a great idea.

[00:51:07] That's a great like if if what you guys

[00:51:10] If we could get it to the MLS like to the the league,

[00:51:14] the head execs directly and have it go out to all the teams.

[00:51:19] I mean, there's their pro players in every state like we could be doing something like that at every one of these games.

[00:51:24] They should be there's when I was at every day.

    [00:51:27] Yeah, exactly.

[00:51:29] Randy and that's what I told Michael Stahl to I'm like take the slutter that we wrote and just cookie cutter it.

[00:51:34] And this should go out to all these directors that you know,

[00:51:37] yep, yep, throughout the states.

[00:51:39] I think if we get there and we start start seeing that at the brand level,

[00:51:44] I think MLS will know.

    [00:51:45] Oh yeah.

    [00:51:46] Yeah.

    [00:51:47] Yeah.

    [00:51:47] Yeah.

[00:51:48] Because it doesn't it doesn't take much to wrap a table in a MLS team logo.

[00:51:52] And then I'll stick it.

    [00:51:53] Yeah.

    [00:51:54] Yeah.

    [00:51:55] Stick it stick it.

[00:51:56] You know, stick it in one of the vestibules there and you know where people are just walking around

[00:52:01] and have a player playing foosball against anybody that wants to walk by.

[00:52:05] The kids are going to lose their minds.

[00:52:06] I mean, I think it would be to have a table with your favorite team.

    [00:52:11] Oh, yeah.

[00:52:11] The tornado guys have had the name of the the players.

    [00:52:15] The jurors.

    [00:52:15] Yeah.

    [00:52:16] Yeah.

[00:52:16] A custom table around that team for that season.

    [00:52:19] So we're Valley Valley.

[00:52:21] Yeah, Valley Dynamo's losing money.

[00:52:22] They could be making money making these custom tables, right?

[00:52:25] Rapping the table, doing the players custom colors.

[00:52:27] Well, and putting the women's world cup had their own warrior foosball table.

    [00:52:33] Do you remember that?

[00:52:34] There was just a couple of years ago and they had each individual player represented

[00:52:38] on the foosball table with their numbers and everything as

[00:52:42] as you know, I mean, why not?

[00:52:44] Why wouldn't you make that that correlation that connection?

    [00:52:47] That's just awesome.

[00:52:49] You know, we shouldn't even be talking about this for people to hear.

[00:52:51] This should be an idea that we should be putting together because somebody

[00:52:54] else is going to steal this idea.

    [00:52:56] Right, right.

    [00:52:56] Like so.

[00:52:59] But no, you're absolutely right.

[00:53:01] I mean, that's just thinking out of the box and having

[00:53:04] having a guy like Mike stall, having access to a guy like Mike stall

[00:53:08] who is in charge of, you know, the foosball clubs USA program.

[00:53:12] Like, I mean, that could just, you know, that gives us a foot in the door.

    [00:53:16] So clearly we got

[00:53:19] we got to figure out how to make this happen.

[00:53:21] Instead of just talking about talking about it, of course.

[00:53:24] But I mean, we we action speak louder than words, right?

[00:53:26] Like we got to put some likes under this thing.

    [00:53:28] It's a foosball club USA.

    [00:53:30] Right.

    [00:53:30] One thing I had.

    [00:53:31] Oh sorry.

    [00:53:32] Tom.

[00:53:32] No, no, it was just going to say foosball clubs USA they have their model

[00:53:36] when they go to schools.

    [00:53:37] Now why wouldn't they?

[00:53:38] I mean, in this area, just in the Northeast, there are these big complexes

[00:53:42] with indoor soccer fields for for for local

    [00:53:46] scholastic competition.

[00:53:48] Why wouldn't you hold a foosball tournament in a place like that?

[00:53:52] There's plenty of space, but, but also use that same formula that

[00:53:56] foosball clubs USA has been using now since John O'Brien began,

[00:54:00] you know, quite a long time ago and institute that within the

[00:54:03] scholastic or the inner scholastic soccer tournaments as well.

    [00:54:07] Yeah.

    [00:54:08] Yeah.

[00:54:09] And that was one thing I thought I could bring value to

[00:54:13] you know, foosball clubs USA.

[00:54:14] They're looking for people that can help with stuff.

[00:54:16] And it's like, well, I've got this tournament ahead of me and I just want to do

    [00:54:19] that right?

    [00:54:20] But I am a writer.

[00:54:21] And so I thought, well, maybe I can write some things that you might like

[00:54:25] and that you can use across lots of things that you can promote for.

    [00:54:30] So yeah.

[00:54:31] Well, that's what we call making use of our natural resources.

    [00:54:36] Exactly.

    [00:54:37] Yeah.

    [00:54:38] Like I'm like I'm an eater and I'm

[00:54:43] something like I'm going to eat it.

[00:54:44] So yeah, no, but this like man, Seth, we got to we got to put some legs

    [00:54:50] under this thing, man.

[00:54:51] And I'm, you know, so myself and a couple guys from from back home were actually

[00:54:58] working on something behind the scenes.

[00:55:01] Not exactly to that extent, but it's like I feel like there are so many.

[00:55:07] There are so many things happening in foosball behind the scenes to really try to make

[00:55:10] us for improve and grow.

[00:55:12] And they're just, you know, a lot of so many good people hardworking smart people.

[00:55:17] Like man, I just there's so much potential in foosball right now.

[00:55:21] And I'm really excited about what's going on.

[00:55:24] So we have to we have to talk about this off air and see if we can put some

[00:55:31] legs to this thing, man.

[00:55:32] So look, I just want to say thank you for coming on.

    [00:55:37] Yeah.

[00:55:38] I'm excited for your tournament.

[00:55:40] I really hope it, I mean, I know it's going to be successful, but I hope it just

[00:55:44] runs smoothly and you know, and if you want to plug anything through anything

[00:55:49] out there, please feel free.

    [00:55:51] Yeah, go for it.

[00:55:53] Well, I couldn't done all this stuff without a lot of help.

[00:55:56] And it's the players here that really stepped up and put money.

[00:56:00] When we ran the campaign and we asked for corporate donations, we asked for

    [00:56:03] individual donations.

[00:56:05] It was all through the players, whether it's their business or

[00:56:08] their business that they know of somebody that's willing to do this.

    [00:56:11] Nice.

[00:56:12] I mean, the list goes on.

[00:56:13] But to name the few Josh Sarpy is going to be the right hand man here.

[00:56:19] He's stuff he did with shells and bringing the tables in and promoting that.

[00:56:23] He's a big part of what our tournament and what we're doing here too.

[00:56:26] And he's now part of the marketing team at foosball clubs USA.

[00:56:29] So it couldn't be happier for Josh.

    [00:56:31] Nice.

    [00:56:31] Yeah.

[00:56:32] Well, yeah, it's like like anything else that that's successful.

[00:56:36] It's about the combination of the chemistry of all the people that get involved

    [00:56:39] and do something.

    [00:56:40] Yeah.

    [00:56:42] Do something.

    [00:56:43] Yes, sir.

    [00:56:44] Do something exactly.

[00:56:46] Well, again, if anybody wants to get a hold of Seth,

[00:56:51] you find the Minnesota state, the 2024 Minnesota state flyer.

[00:56:54] His information is on there.

[00:56:55] Get a hold of him.

[00:56:57] The Minnesota foosball Facebook page.

[00:57:01] And you know, again, we're just we're a few weeks away from the tournament.

[00:57:04] Hopefully it's going to be a big test and I'll be I'll be watching the brackets man.

    [00:57:09] Yeah, hey, can't wait.

[00:57:10] Yeah, hopefully you go win everything.

[00:57:13] So yeah, I did okay.

    [00:57:15] I'm an amateur player.

[00:57:16] So I've been up a climb on my way back in there.

    [00:57:19] Excellent.

    [00:57:20] I'm not getting younger.

[00:57:21] So I, you know, I've changed a lot of things in my game too.

    [00:57:23] So I can't wait.

[00:57:24] And next thing it just goes from up to the buddy.

    [00:57:26] Yeah, yeah.

[00:57:27] And next thing you know, you'll be getting a call from Eric Balkos.

[00:57:30] Hey, man, can you, can you what?

[00:57:31] Can you play with a kid again?

    [00:57:33] That'd be great.

    [00:57:36] Get blind, right?

[00:57:39] It's it is it's one of those things.

[00:57:41] But Seth, I got to say to use the term that you are inspirational is probably an understatement.

[00:57:49] Oh, thank you so much.

    [00:57:50] I appreciate that man.

    [00:57:51] Absolutely.

[00:57:56] We want to hear we've got to certainly get a debrief as to how things went and how you felt about the tournament.

    [00:58:06] I'm fine.
