[00:02:07] We're back on FoosTalk Live

[00:02:09] Hey there, I'm Tom Robinson

[00:02:11] It's Hall of Fame weekend

[00:02:13] So hey, if you're not watching us right now on Twitch TV

[00:02:16] I get it, you know, there's things happening there in Las Vegas at the Westgate

[00:02:21] Dare I say, we're still going to talk about Foosball

[00:02:24] And of course if you're going to talk about Foosball

[00:02:26] Well it always pays to have somebody who wants to talk about Foosball

    [00:02:29] Who loves Foosball?

[00:02:30] That would be Randy Raposo

    [00:02:32] Hello Randy

[00:02:33] Hey Tom, I love Foosball

    [00:02:35] You love Foosball

[00:02:36] I want to talk about Foosball, but I want to watch Foosball too

[00:02:39] So the pro singles final is going on right now

    [00:02:42] Yes

[00:02:43] And so in my opinion, and not that my opinion matters

[00:02:47] But the two best under 18 players in the world right now

[00:02:52] Battling in the pro singles final

    [00:02:55] Jacob and Sammy?

[00:02:57] Yep, Jacob Balcos and Samsonite Dijon

[00:03:01] And the field was very, very, very thick

    [00:03:07] Oh yeah

[00:03:08] So you had some master players in the field

    [00:03:11] Newie, Jeff Pipkin Jr.

[00:03:14] And then there was a player that Jacob just beat

[00:03:17] His name was Dolly Bore

    [00:03:18] I saw that

    [00:03:19] I believe he's a Garlando world champion

[00:03:22] And he actually won, I believe it was semi-pro singles at Worlds

[00:03:28] In the late 2000s, early 2010s maybe

    [00:03:32] Oh

[00:03:33] I think he beat Kane Gabriel in the finals

[00:03:35] That's how long ago, Kane was still a semi-pro or an expert

[00:03:39] But a solid, solid player

[00:03:42] The Hall of Fame is the international contingent at this tournament

    [00:03:51] Is always well represented

[00:03:53] What, 73 players this year from other countries?

[00:03:58] Well, 73 players in open singles

    [00:04:01] Yeah

    [00:04:02] So I don't think that's counting the majority

[00:04:06] I don't know if that was everyone

[00:04:08] Or if that was female players or what

[00:04:10] And I know Mary does this thing where international players play risk-free

    [00:04:15] Mm-hmm, yep

[00:04:16] Which for anybody listening who doesn't know what that means

[00:04:18] That means you can enter open singles

[00:04:21] And I don't know if she does it for open doubles

[00:04:22] But that means you can enter for free

[00:04:24] And then if you make it into the cash

[00:04:27] Your entry fee will be taken out of your winnings

    [00:04:31] I get you

[00:04:32] So that's what it means for risk-free

    [00:04:33] Okay

[00:04:34] Yeah, so for international players it's a great perk

    [00:04:36] It's a great benefit

    [00:04:37] Why would you not?

[00:04:38] Why wouldn't you? Yeah, exactly

    [00:04:40] That's a...

[00:04:42] It's encouraging people from Europe especially

[00:04:45] To take the flight, pay the hotel room and be there

[00:04:49] And man, did you notice Tony Sprateman's partner, Bjorn?

    [00:04:54] Bjorn, yeah

[00:04:55] He has just a luscious head of hair

    [00:04:57] Yeah, right?

    [00:04:58] Yeah

    [00:04:59] He's actually, I think, like a last minute

[00:05:03] Because normally Tony plays with Rob Mareis

[00:05:06] Well, Rob and Jacob had planned to play already

    [00:05:09] Yes

[00:05:10] Because Tony wasn't sure if he was going to make it

[00:05:13] In fact, the guys in Modern Foods were Adam and Clay

[00:05:18] We're talking to Tony during the early part of, I think it was Thursday evening

[00:05:23] And Tony was like, yeah, I wasn't quite sure if I was going to make it this year

[00:05:27] But I did last minute

[00:05:29] And of course Rob had already committed with Jacob

    [00:05:32] So he brought Bjorn

    [00:05:36] And they're kicking butt

[00:05:37] Yeah, and he's no slouch, man

    [00:05:39] Yeah, he's good

    [00:05:40] I watched a couple of matches

[00:05:42] So I watched the finals of Handicap Doubles

[00:05:45] And I know I was in the chat

    [00:05:47] And there was some...

    [00:05:49] Obviously it's a chat group

[00:05:50] So there was some chatter about odds

[00:05:53] And people talking about how it was going to go

[00:05:55] And a lot of people were just saying Tony was...

    [00:06:00] Tony and Bjorn, 90-10

    [00:06:02] I said, nah, I think it's a coin toss

[00:06:05] I gave it 50-50 because you can't spot Jacob and Hannah a goal

[00:06:09] And think it's going to be easy

[00:06:11] I think in a straight up match

    [00:06:13] I give Tony... I mean, it's Tony

[00:06:16] But Jacob and Hannah, they pulled it out

[00:06:19] And I was not... Samsonite

    [00:06:22] Up two games

    [00:06:23] Two games

    [00:06:24] Go Sammy

    [00:06:25] Two games to nothing

[00:06:26] Sam Dijon up on Jacob in the finals

[00:06:29] So from what I recall, and I don't want to...

[00:06:32] I'm not shifting gears here

[00:06:33] But so they played in open singles

[00:06:36] And I think Sam was up on Jake

[00:06:38] This is where I was told

    [00:06:39] I didn't see the match

[00:06:40] But I was told Sam was up

    [00:06:43] Two games to one

[00:06:44] And then I think he was up

[00:06:46] Three to one or four to one

    [00:06:47] And let Jake back

[00:06:49] And then I'm losing the match

    [00:06:50] No

[00:06:51] So now Sam's still finished

    [00:06:53] He's still finished seventh, I think

    [00:06:55] In open singles

    [00:06:56] In open singles

    [00:06:57] In this field

    [00:06:58] Yeah

    [00:06:59] He beat some studs

[00:07:01] But that handicap doubles final

[00:07:04] It was good to watch

[00:07:06] It was fun to watch

[00:07:07] But I've got to tell you

[00:07:08] Now Tony won singles, obviously

    [00:07:12] But man, he just...

[00:07:13] He didn't look super, super sharp

    [00:07:16] On tornado

[00:07:17] Well, one of the things that I noticed

[00:07:19] He's not necessarily always doing a rollover shot

[00:07:22] Now he's doing pushkicks and pullkicks

[00:07:25] And I noticed he did some angled dinks here and there

[00:07:28] This was earlier today, in fact

[00:07:30] He was playing in open doubles

[00:07:32] And I was like, wow, man

    [00:07:34] Where's the... where's the rollover?

[00:07:37] Well, you know, watching Sam's up

    [00:07:40] Sam is playing great

    [00:07:42] He's being super, I'm sorry

    [00:07:43] But I'm just...

[00:07:44] Yeah, yeah, no, I want to hear about it

    [00:07:46] I'm admiring...

[00:07:47] You know, Jacob's been owning pro singles

    [00:07:49] For the past year

[00:07:50] And Sam is putting it on him

    [00:07:54] I mean, it's been close games

[00:07:56] But Sam is playing great foosball

[00:07:59] But I've been watching a lot of Tony's play

    [00:08:02] Over in Europe

[00:08:03] You know, a lot of his Leonhart play

[00:08:05] And he's just so aggressive all the time

[00:08:09] And I know that's just part of his style of play anyway

[00:08:11] But I was kind of interested to see

[00:08:16] How he was going to do coming back

[00:08:18] Not having really played as much tornado

[00:08:21] Obviously he's still Tony Spreedman

[00:08:24] He's still the best player in the world

[00:08:26] You know, still wants to win

[00:08:28] And mentally probably the toughest player ever

[00:08:32] But you know, he won singles

    [00:08:35] He beat Tommy

[00:08:37] Tommy and Ryan win doubles

[00:08:39] And I don't know if you watched any of those matches

    [00:08:41] Oh well

[00:08:42] I mean, I knew that when I heard that

[00:08:44] Tommy and Ryan were going to be paired up

[00:08:46] I thought, hmm, that's going to be really tough

    [00:08:49] To beat that

    [00:08:51] Yeah

[00:08:52] You know, even if you just put Ryan in goal

    [00:08:55] Just left him there

    [00:08:56] And Tommy took forward

[00:08:59] That's a top two combination right there

[00:09:04] Let me tell you, Tom

[00:09:06] So they played Kane and Kevin Romero

[00:09:10] Kane and Kevin win the first game

[00:09:14] I think they were up in the second

[00:09:17] And then Ryan and Tommy started switching

[00:09:21] And Ryan just did what Ryan does

[00:09:26] And I gotta tell you, Tommy, you know

    [00:09:28] Tommy's no slouch

    [00:09:29] Yeah

    [00:09:30] And Tommy got blocks

[00:09:32] Tommy actually scored three or four out of the back

[00:09:35] Really? From a two row?

    [00:09:36] Yeah

[00:09:37] He closed it out with a bank

    [00:09:39] Outside bank

    [00:09:40] Damn

    [00:09:41] So yeah

[00:09:42] And they ended up, they won that one

[00:09:45] And then they won the first game

[00:09:47] And then Ryan and Tommy

[00:09:50] It was like, I started watching

[00:09:53] And Brandon and Terry were already up the game

[00:09:55] That was for winners of winners right?

[00:09:57] Well that was technically the final

    [00:09:59] Because it's championship format

    [00:10:00] Oh that's right

    [00:10:01] That's right

    [00:10:02] Yeah

[00:10:03] So I started watching after the first game

[00:10:05] And then it was like really fast

    [00:10:06] It was really fast

    [00:10:07] Yeah

[00:10:08] So, but if you look at like a lot of the lower

[00:10:11] You know, pro down, expert amateur

[00:10:14] There's so many international names

[00:10:18] At the top of the list

    [00:10:19] I noticed

    [00:10:20] It's a, oh man

[00:10:21] If you're winning at the Hall of Fame

    [00:10:23] If you're doing, okay

[00:10:24] Match point for Sam here

    [00:10:26] Jacob's drop

[00:10:27] If you're doing damage at the Hall of Fame

    [00:10:29] You're winning something man

[00:10:30] Because it's such a thick field there

    [00:10:32] It's extraordinary

[00:10:34] The only thing that comes even close

[00:10:36] Is probably, you know, tornado worlds

    [00:10:38] Yeah

[00:10:39] And I'm gonna tell you

[00:10:41] Tornado worlds is a, you know

[00:10:44] I don't think the Hall of Fame has the same prestige

[00:10:47] But I think if tornado worlds is in a location

[00:10:52] Similar to Las Vegas where

    [00:10:54] There you go

[00:10:55] The international contingent can fly in as easily

    [00:10:58] Yeah

[00:10:59] I think we might, you know

[00:11:01] I don't want to say double attendance

[00:11:03] But now I meant to text Donald

    [00:11:06] Substantially

    [00:11:07] Yeah

[00:11:08] And I meant to text Donald

[00:11:09] To try to see if I could get

[00:11:11] Just a number on attendance

    [00:11:14] Yeah

    [00:11:15] And I didn't

[00:11:16] But Sam's got the ball

    [00:11:19] Sam's got the ball

    [00:11:20] 4-4

    [00:11:21] Match point

    [00:11:23] I'm sorry Tom

    [00:11:24] Go

    [00:11:25] Any strokes at, Sam

    [00:11:26] Sam had just won

    [00:11:27] Pro singles

    [00:11:28] Nice

[00:11:29] At the Hall of Fame

    [00:11:30] Yes

    [00:11:31] Yes

    [00:11:32] Wow

[00:11:33] Way to go Sam Dijon

    [00:11:35] Wow

    [00:11:36] Three straight

    [00:11:37] Three straight

[00:11:38] Hey congratulations to Jacob Balcos runner up

    [00:11:41] Yeah

    [00:11:42] That field but

    [00:11:43] Don't smile

    [00:11:44] Extra congrats

[00:11:45] Shout out to our boy Sammy Dijon

    [00:11:48] For winning Pro singles

[00:11:49] We talked about this way back in TKO

[00:11:51] Because he was stomping on people like Blake Robertson

[00:11:55] At the TKO, Sammy was

    [00:11:57] Yeah

[00:11:58] So you kind of go

    [00:12:00] Hmm, there's an indication

    [00:12:02] There's something happening

[00:12:04] He's, you know, obviously the growth spurt made a difference

[00:12:09] Because now he's just hitting the ball so good

    [00:12:11] Yeah

[00:12:12] But he's also now learning to manage the table

    [00:12:15] And take his timeouts

[00:12:16] And he's making good decisions

    [00:12:18] He's just, you know

[00:12:19] If he decides to stick with it

[00:12:20] He's only going to get better

    [00:12:21] So

[00:12:22] I can only imagine how happy Nino is right now

[00:12:25] But I'm just so excited for the kid

    [00:12:28] Now, little inside info

[00:12:30] For those who may not know

[00:12:31] Tommy, yours now in the Albany area

[00:12:34] So Tommy and Sam get together at, you know

[00:12:39] Of course Nino's house to work out, to practice

[00:12:42] And so this is showing

[00:12:44] This is obviously increasing Junior's game

    [00:12:48] Or I'm sorry

[00:12:49] We call him Junior but Sammy's game

    [00:12:52] Yeah, yeah

    [00:12:53] Junior

[00:12:54] But he hates that by the way

    [00:12:58] Whatever

[00:13:00] Because I call him Samsonite

    [00:13:02] Of course

    [00:13:03] Of course

    [00:13:04] But hey

    [00:13:05] I got a bunch of chops

[00:13:08] Well congratulations to Tommy, your and of course Ryan too

[00:13:12] That, I mean think about that

[00:13:14] There, how many combinations of players you can hear right now

    [00:13:18] Let's say, you know

[00:13:19] If you want to mix and match anybody

[00:13:21] Aside from let's say Tony Spratum and anyone

[00:13:24] You know how, you know

    [00:13:25] The mix and match

[00:13:26] If you were to put those two people together

    [00:13:29] It's an instant like

[00:13:30] Oh of course they're gonna win

    [00:13:31] Of course

[00:13:32] Yeah, well so I, you know

[00:13:35] And again, Tom, I'm just somebody who

[00:13:38] I love Foosball and I appreciate Foosball

[00:13:41] And being somebody on the outside looking in

[00:13:44] I feel like right now

[00:13:47] If you stick any top forward with Ryan Moore

    [00:13:52] It's a winning combination

    [00:13:53] Yeah

    [00:13:54] For one because he's

[00:13:57] I mean he's one of the best players ever

    [00:13:59] Two

    [00:14:00] There's two rodability

    [00:14:02] Three

    [00:14:03] The switch ability

[00:14:04] I mean he literally, and that match against Cain and Kevin

[00:14:06] He came up front and everything changed

    [00:14:08] Yes

    [00:14:09] Everything changed

[00:14:10] The whole dynamic of the match changed

[00:14:12] He just has the ability to take control of a match

    [00:14:16] Against two, again

[00:14:18] Kevin two time world champ

    [00:14:20] Cain multiple time

[00:14:22] Open doubles, finalists at Worlds

[00:14:24] You know Cain's one of the best goalies in the world

    [00:14:26] Oh he's awesome

[00:14:27] And Ryan just came up and changed the whole dynamic of the match

    [00:14:31] Let him up

[00:14:33] Yeah, I mean he's you know he's one of the best ever

[00:14:36] So I think that combination

    [00:14:40] And then another guy

[00:14:42] You know I was rooting for Billy and Eric

    [00:14:44] Eric Hilton and Billy

[00:14:45] Yeah, that was a really good combination for sure

[00:14:48] And they got beat by Trevor Park and Cody Byrie

[00:14:52] Who you know now Trevor Park

    [00:14:56] And I don't think a lot of people

[00:14:58] Maybe if you haven't been around foosball for a long time

    [00:15:01] Don't understand Trevor Park

[00:15:03] Trevor Park was a top five player for a long time

    [00:15:05] Oh long time, yeah

    [00:15:06] Trevor Park is certified

[00:15:08] That dude is no joke

    [00:15:09] He's so freaking good

[00:15:12] And he's another guy who I think with

[00:15:15] You know the right combination can come in and just win a tournament

[00:15:18] He's probably when you think about it

[00:15:20] Probably in the top two or three players out of California right now

    [00:15:23] Trevor Park

    [00:15:26] So let's see

[00:15:28] I think again this is just my opinion

[00:15:31] I think Trevor is the best player in California

    [00:15:33] The best player

    [00:15:34] And that's, I mean and that's

    [00:15:36] You're talking a state with like

    [00:15:38] You know 20, 30 pro masters

[00:15:41] Adrian Zamora is over there

[00:15:44] And Dana Mars a master player there

    [00:15:48] Phil Schlafer

    [00:15:49] Phil Schlafer, Fernando DeRosa

    [00:15:53] Serge Argonas is there

    [00:15:55] I mean there's a whole bunch

    [00:15:57] James Castillo

[00:15:59] Yeah obviously Adam Gilson of course

[00:16:03] As he likes to say I was a pro

[00:16:06] Yeah, yeah, no and he was a really good one too

[00:16:09] But no Trevor Park is

[00:16:11] I mean, Trevor is really

[00:16:13] I mean to go to the finals at Worlds like

[00:16:15] You know 14 years in a row

    [00:16:17] It's not, I'll be saying exaggerating

[00:16:20] But that's not an easy feat

[00:16:23] And especially at the time when he did

[00:16:26] When Todd and Frederico were kinda

    [00:16:29] They owned Open Doubles

    [00:16:31] Oh yeah

[00:16:32] He was just, you know, he was right there

[00:16:34] He was right there, he was in it

    [00:16:36] But that's a tough team

[00:16:38] I mean if you look at the combinations this way

[00:16:40] So I actually sent a text out to a couple guys

[00:16:42] I said page three in Open Doubles is a freakin' nightmare

[00:16:45] You had Billy and Eric at the top

[00:16:48] And then you had Tony and Bjorn

[00:16:51] And then who else was in page three

[00:16:54] Let me pull it up, cause I mean it was brutal

[00:16:56] Well you had of course our good friends

    [00:17:00] From Mississippi

[00:17:03] Shannon, Shannon Cole and yeah those guys

    [00:17:06] Were kicking butt too

[00:17:08] And then do-do, actually I think they're still in it

    [00:17:10] Do we call Pepper?

[00:17:11] Yeah those are my boys

[00:17:13] Yeah they're sitting fourth right now

[00:17:15] They're playing Tony and Bjorn

[00:17:17] So let's see page three

[00:17:19] They were in group two

[00:17:20] But just in group three, okay check this out

[00:17:22] I mean okay you had Billy and Eric

[00:17:25] And then you had the Canadian team

[00:17:28] That took fifth in Open Doubles

    [00:17:30] Mario

[00:17:31] Last year that surprised a bunch of guys

[00:17:32] No it was Tyson Francis

    [00:17:34] Oh

    [00:17:35] And his partner

[00:17:37] Oh I thought it was

    [00:17:38] I don't know maybe it was

    [00:17:40] I know it's Tyson Francis

[00:17:41] The other guy I'm not sure

    [00:17:43] I'm not 100% sure

[00:17:44] But then you got Tony and Bjorn

[00:17:46] Tony, Tony Gash is there

[00:17:49] Samsonite and Mark Krauss are in there

[00:17:52] Frank Bolecha and Louis Fitch

[00:17:54] Frank Bolecha is a Hawaiian guy

[00:17:55] That back in the day she was a push kick

    [00:17:57] He was ridiculous

[00:17:58] I think he had a top three finish

    [00:17:59] I heard about him

    [00:18:00] Yeah

[00:18:01] Yeah he was a beast

[00:18:02] Then you got Jacob and Rob

    [00:18:05] Who else?

[00:18:06] Ben Rivera and Justin Shaw

[00:18:08] Phil Schlaffer is in there

[00:18:10] And then you got Trevor and Cody

[00:18:13] And that's just a couple of the teams in here

[00:18:15] I mean and that's just one page

[00:18:18] There was 119 teams in Open Doubles

    [00:18:21] That's a fair turnout

    [00:18:24] Fair

    [00:18:25] Yeah fair

    [00:18:27] So page one

[00:18:29] You know Ryan and Tommy at the top

[00:18:32] And then some tough Canadian teams

[00:18:34] And then you've got some names I can't even pronounce

[00:18:36] There was a large Middle Eastern contingent

    [00:18:38] Right

    [00:18:39] Let's see

[00:18:41] Jeff Pipkin Jr. was there

    [00:18:43] Played with Robbie Hayes

[00:18:44] Who's a really good pro from the Northwest

[00:18:47] Mario Originello played with Dwayne Menendez

    [00:18:50] That's who it was

[00:18:51] It was Tyson Francis and Dwayne Menendez

    [00:18:53] Okay

[00:18:54] And then Louis Cartwright, Fernando de Rosa

[00:18:56] Louis Cartwright, Hall of Famer

    [00:18:58] Of course

[00:18:59] Okay so that was another tough team

[00:19:02] And then Dewey and Shannon

[00:19:06] Who are still in it

[00:19:07] There were the eight seed

[00:19:09] Man this tournament is so good

[00:19:11] If you could get to Vegas

[00:19:13] Yeah if you could get to Vegas

[00:19:15] I told my wife next year

[00:19:17] If Billy gets inducted into the Hall of Fame

    [00:19:19] I'm going

    [00:19:20] I gotta go

[00:19:21] When would he be eligible exactly?

[00:19:24] He turns 40 in September

    [00:19:27] 40? Okay

    [00:19:29] Yeah

[00:19:30] He turns 40 in September and then he'll be eligible

    [00:19:32] Doesn't seem possible

    [00:19:33] 40 years old

    [00:19:34] He's so old

[00:19:35] What's that make me dead?

    [00:19:39] I mean come on

    [00:19:40] No, no you're just

    [00:19:42] You're just wise

    [00:19:45] That's what you are

    [00:19:46] You're wise

    [00:19:47] We'll take that

    [00:19:48] Yeah

[00:19:49] Page 2, Kane and Kevin

    [00:19:54] This kid from Colorado

    [00:19:55] This Nathan Ham kid

[00:19:57] I saw his name a few times

    [00:19:59] I heard he's pretty good

    [00:20:00] He's been on

    [00:20:01] Really?

    [00:20:03] He's a really good guy

[00:20:04] He's got a good sense of humor

    [00:20:05] Nice

    [00:20:06] Yeah Nathan's very cool

[00:20:07] Okay and then there's a team here

[00:20:09] Charles Moore and Dan Sloan

[00:20:11] Dan Sloan was a pro master from California

    [00:20:13] I believe

    [00:20:14] Okay

    [00:20:15] Really good player

    [00:20:16] Sam and Hannah

    [00:20:17] Excuse me

    [00:20:18] Sam and Sullivan

[00:20:19] Put them in the losers or pro doubles

    [00:20:21] But that's a tough team

[00:20:22] They've been around for a long time

    [00:20:23] Wow

    [00:20:24] Let's see

    [00:20:25] Teddy Spruce

    [00:20:26] James Castillo

    [00:20:27] Warren VanLandingham

[00:20:29] My good buddy Bruce Welton

[00:20:31] Alavo Tavares a new Tran

    [00:20:33] Tough Canadian team

    [00:20:35] Yeah

[00:20:36] Todd LaFredo and Darren Bone

[00:20:39] They lost in the first round

    [00:20:41] That's really surprising

    [00:20:43] I mean I'm just saying

    [00:20:45] Look

[00:20:46] A lot of surprises this weekend

[00:20:48] And this is just open doubles

    [00:20:50] That's not going back

    [00:20:52] Through every other event

    [00:20:54] You know and again

[00:20:56] So there were some surprises

[00:20:59] And then there were some not so surprises

[00:21:02] Like Sullivan won women's singles

    [00:21:05] Of course

[00:21:06] And also what was it

    [00:21:08] Women's doubles with Hannah

    [00:21:10] Hannah, yep

    [00:21:11] So Sullivan doubles again

    [00:21:14] And then

[00:21:15] So I would say maybe a surprise to some people

    [00:21:18] But Isabel Stehle

[00:21:20] Runner up in women's open singles

[00:21:22] Which I think this is her first

[00:21:24] This is her first major open singles final

    [00:21:27] Is it really?

    [00:21:28] I believe so

[00:21:29] She's been in the finals of women's singles before

    [00:21:31] At the state level

    [00:21:32] Yes

[00:21:33] But I think at the

    [00:21:35] Man listen

[00:21:36] That kid is getting so stinking good

    [00:21:38] Yep

    [00:21:39] She really is

[00:21:40] And she beat some good players to get

    [00:21:43] To that final

[00:21:45] And I saw the final

    [00:21:47] And

    [00:21:48] The

    [00:21:50] You know

[00:21:52] We talk about Sullivan like she's 40 years old

[00:21:54] But for being 21 years old

[00:21:56] She has so much experience at 21

    [00:21:59] She's got foosball maturity

[00:22:01] Let's put it that way

    [00:22:02] You know

    [00:22:03] Yeah, you know

[00:22:04] I mean she's been doing it since she was in diapers

    [00:22:06] And she does it

    [00:22:07] She does it internationally

[00:22:08] She's done it at every level

    [00:22:10] Yep

    [00:22:11] And let's just say

[00:22:12] You know Isabel for only being

[00:22:14] You know she's been playing for like three or four years

    [00:22:16] And to already be

    [00:22:17] Where she's at is

    [00:22:18] It's a true achievement

    [00:22:19] And congratulations to her

[00:22:21] And she's still got a little bit of work to do

    [00:22:24] I mean it's a foregone conclusion again

[00:22:26] Like we mentioned with Sam

[00:22:28] If Sullivan just stays with it

[00:22:30] You know just stays basically at the same level

    [00:22:33] She'll be

[00:22:35] I think she'll be considered one of the greatest women players of all time

    [00:22:38] I don't think

[00:22:40] I think she'll be considered just one of the greatest

    [00:22:42] One of

    [00:22:43] Yeah

    [00:22:44] Not even

[00:22:45] The differentiation between men and women

[00:22:48] I think she will be considered one of the greatest players

[00:22:51] One of the greatest players

    [00:22:52] She is consistently

[00:22:55] She's consistently finishing well in men's events

    [00:22:57] Oh yeah

    [00:22:58] She's consistently winning her women's events

    [00:23:01] I think she's

[00:23:04] And again I'm not saying this in any

[00:23:06] I'm not saying this to be disrespectful

[00:23:08] Records are made to be broken

[00:23:10] And I think she is going to

[00:23:12] I think she's going to surpass Cindy at some point

    [00:23:15] No doubt

    [00:23:16] No doubt

[00:23:17] She's got the space right

[00:23:19] Because she's what early 20s for goodness sake

    [00:23:21] She's 21

    [00:23:22] Yeah, 21

[00:23:23] So we're talking a lot of potential there

[00:23:27] Let's say for the next nine years

[00:23:29] Even if she just plays to the age of 30

    [00:23:31] I mean

    [00:23:32] Yeah

    [00:23:33] If she wins

[00:23:34] If she just does what Cindy

[00:23:36] If she doubles at Worlds for the next nine years

    [00:23:38] That's 18 titles

    [00:23:39] There you go

[00:23:40] On top of what she's already got

    [00:23:41] Which is

[00:23:42] I think she's got like six or eight or something

    [00:23:44] Oh it's a one

    [00:23:45] It's a one

    [00:23:46] I mean she'll be over 30

[00:23:47] And then that's not counting if she

[00:23:49] If she wins a couple of mixed events

[00:23:52] You know she wins a couple open mix

    [00:23:53] Which she's more the

[00:23:55] I mean she just won open mix at the kickoff

    [00:23:56] With Paul Smith

    [00:23:57] So

    [00:23:58] You know

    [00:24:00] The kid's so good

    [00:24:02] She really is man

    [00:24:03] Well consider this

[00:24:04] I mean talk about you know Terry

[00:24:06] Terry was paired up with Brandon

    [00:24:07] Brandon Munoz this weekend

[00:24:09] I mean look at those guys

    [00:24:11] And it's no wonder

[00:24:12] Because Terry is such a

    [00:24:14] He's such a great dad

[00:24:15] You know just generally speaking

[00:24:16] You can tell he's a good dad

    [00:24:18] And he's

[00:24:19] Before anything else that's what he is

    [00:24:20] Yeah

    [00:24:21] Yes sir

[00:24:22] And he raised his daughter to

[00:24:24] To be a top champion

[00:24:26] And of course she wants it

[00:24:28] It's not like she's been forced to do it

[00:24:30] She really wants to do this

    [00:24:32] And you can tell

    [00:24:33] You know she's fierce

    [00:24:34] Yeah

    [00:24:35] Yeah I've seen

    [00:24:37] I've seen what

    [00:24:39] What

[00:24:40] Parents forcing their kids to do something

    [00:24:43] Yeah

[00:24:44] You know as opposed to letting them fall in love with it

    [00:24:47] Right

[00:24:48] You know and you can tell she just

    [00:24:50] She loves it

[00:24:51] She wants to do it

[00:24:53] And it shows I mean look at

    [00:24:55] You know the

[00:24:56] This is what I say about players

[00:24:58] You know because I have people ask me all the time

    [00:25:01] Is this guy good

    [00:25:02] Is this guy good

[00:25:03] What do you think of this guy

    [00:25:05] Results

[00:25:06] Results are what differentiate players in my opinion

    [00:25:09] It's not

    [00:25:10] It's what they do

    [00:25:11] You know

    [00:25:12] Yeah

[00:25:13] It's how they do it

[00:25:14] And also they're just classy people oftentimes

    [00:25:18] You know that helps

[00:25:20] Yeah well not all winners are classy people

[00:25:23] Well unlike the way it used to be sometimes

    [00:25:26] Yeah

[00:25:27] No but you know and again

[00:25:30] You can have this conversation with

[00:25:33] Somebody who played in the 70s

[00:25:34] Somebody who played in the 80s

[00:25:35] And somebody who played in the 90s

[00:25:37] And they're all going to argue that

[00:25:39] Their generation their time frame was the best

    [00:25:42] The toughest

[00:25:43] The best players the most skilled

[00:25:45] And I think the game has evolved

    [00:25:50] It has

    [00:25:51] Again and you

[00:25:52] Well you can look at any sport right

[00:25:54] You can take American baseball, American football

    [00:25:57] Basketball, hockey

[00:25:59] And for me again I played hockey

[00:26:01] I started playing hockey when I was three

[00:26:03] And I still remember hockey in the 80s

[00:26:05] I remember my first pair of skates

    [00:26:06] Three

    [00:26:07] What is

[00:26:08] Now what would they give you like a

    [00:26:10] Was it a plastic

[00:26:12] So my first pair of skates were microns

    [00:26:15] They were plastic microns

[00:26:17] Anybody who knows hockey and remembers the 80s

[00:26:20] My first pair of skates they were black microns

    [00:26:23] They were plastic right

[00:26:25] And they were probably about this big

[00:26:27] I was three years old

[00:26:29] And I had little shin guards

[00:26:31] But I was out there doing it

    [00:26:33] Yeah I had a little stick

[00:26:36] But the thing is if you look at

[00:26:38] Even just how equipment has evolved

    [00:26:41] Right

[00:26:42] And how players are bigger, stronger, faster

[00:26:47] So I actually saw something the other day

    [00:26:49] Not to kind of

[00:26:51] But just to give an example right

[00:26:53] So goalies in the 60s and 70s

    [00:26:56] Didn't wear masks

    [00:26:58] We're talking hockey

    [00:26:59] I got a wonder

    [00:27:00] Compressed rubber puck

    [00:27:02] They didn't wear masks

[00:27:04] Now players in the 60s and 70s

[00:27:06] Were shooting the puck at maybe a 50 to 60 mile an hour clip

    [00:27:11] Which is pretty fast

    [00:27:12] Oh yeah

    [00:27:13] Okay

    [00:27:14] Players now, right

[00:27:16] Wrist shots because of the way sticks are made

[00:27:19] A lot of sticks are made

[00:27:21] Their composite and their one piece

[00:27:24] And they have flex built into them

[00:27:26] So when you shoot the puck

[00:27:27] It comes off the blade of the stick like a rocket

[00:27:30] You can shoot a wrist shot at 85 miles an hour

[00:27:33] Never mind a slap shot

    [00:27:34] 85

[00:27:35] So now the way the masks are made

    [00:27:37] They're super aerodynamic

[00:27:38] They cover the back of your head

[00:27:40] So now I saw this little video the other day

[00:27:42] Where players are actually shooting at the goalie's head on purpose

[00:27:45] Not to hurt the goalie right

[00:27:48] It's because the way the goalie is going down

[00:27:51] Like if you're in the corner

[00:27:53] The goalie is going down to cover

[00:27:55] The post and anything coming to the front

[00:27:57] They're shooting the puck off the back of his head

[00:27:59] And into the net because it's exposed

    [00:28:02] Right

    [00:28:03] I'm sitting there thinking

[00:28:05] If they had done that 40 years ago

    [00:28:07] They'd kill somebody

    [00:28:08] Oh and no question

[00:28:09] Yeah take the back of his head off

[00:28:11] So just thinking about how

    [00:28:14] Okay, American football

    [00:28:16] How players

[00:28:17] The helmet used to be a piece of leather

[00:28:19] That you taped to your head

    [00:28:21] And now these guys

[00:28:23] The equipment is so advanced

[00:28:25] Right that it allows players to play so fast

    [00:28:28] And hit so hard

[00:28:29] You can't think that foosball hasn't evolved

    [00:28:32] Since the 70's

    [00:28:34] It has

    [00:28:35] Just general tactics

[00:28:39] And of course the equipment that's available now

    [00:28:42] Much better

    [00:28:43] The tables are better

    [00:28:46] They're made better

    [00:28:47] They're more heavy duty

[00:28:49] The way the rods are built

[00:28:52] And just the players themselves

[00:28:54] You know the game is faster

[00:28:57] And again I'm not going to sit here and say

    [00:29:00] That we're smarter

[00:29:01] Or we do things better

[00:29:02] But even just in 20 years

[00:29:04] Of me playing tournament foosball

    [00:29:06] I've seen things change

[00:29:08] From the early 2000's to now the early 2020's

    [00:29:11] And it's like

    [00:29:12] Oh yeah

    [00:29:13] Well

[00:29:14] You sink or swim Tom

    [00:29:15] Oh well

    [00:29:16] You sink or swim

    [00:29:18] When I started

    [00:29:19] Right and again

[00:29:20] I've had guys tell me

    [00:29:21] You don't shoot

[00:29:22] You don't shoot five bar shots

[00:29:24] You shoot a five bar shot

[00:29:25] I'm going to punch you in the face

    [00:29:26] Right

    [00:29:27] Don't do it

    [00:29:28] Don't do it

    [00:29:29] Yeah

[00:29:30] To where now it's like

    [00:29:31] Everybody's still in one

    [00:29:33] It's become acceptable

    [00:29:34] You want to win

    [00:29:35] You want to win

[00:29:36] Or do you not want to win

    [00:29:37] Right

    [00:29:38] It's become acceptable

    [00:29:39] If it's good

[00:29:40] Like a Philbrook five bar shot

    [00:29:42] It's scary

    [00:29:43] You know

[00:29:44] You better be ready for that

    [00:29:45] So here's the point

[00:29:48] So when you think about Tony Sprateman

    [00:29:51] Coming up late 90's

    [00:29:53] Early 2000's

    [00:29:54] Young guy

    [00:29:55] Fierce player

    [00:29:56] And then along comes

    [00:29:58] Tommy Yord Jr.

[00:30:00] Who watches and hangs out

[00:30:02] And sees this guy playing

    [00:30:05] This Tony Sprateman

    [00:30:06] And models his game

    [00:30:08] Almost shot for shot

    [00:30:09] Pass for pass

    [00:30:10] On this dude

    [00:30:12] Now of course that's

[00:30:13] You want to imitate the best don't you

[00:30:16] But now he's adding his own game

    [00:30:18] On top of Tony's

    [00:30:20] Yep

    [00:30:21] So there in comes

    [00:30:23] You know

[00:30:24] The next generation so to speak

[00:30:26] Is taking what had happened in the past

    [00:30:29] Which was successful obviously

[00:30:31] And then adding their own thing

[00:30:33] And then modifying it slightly

    [00:30:34] And then going on

[00:30:35] And making it more successful still

[00:30:37] So it's only goes without saying

[00:30:40] That players are going to get better

[00:30:42] Because they have so much talent to watch

    [00:30:45] Absolutely

    [00:30:46] I mean I've

[00:30:48] I heard Tony say this

[00:30:50] And I think it actually might have been

[00:30:51] On one of the modern

    [00:30:52] Fuseball clips

[00:30:53] Shout out to Clay and Adam

    [00:30:54] Yep

[00:30:55] And they talked about who his favorite players were

[00:30:58] I think he said it was like Tommy

    [00:31:00] Atkinson and Don Swan

[00:31:02] And I might be wrong but

[00:31:04] And you can tell just the way he plays

    [00:31:06] And the aggression

[00:31:07] And the way he just attacks

    [00:31:09] So it's like

    [00:31:10] You see who's winning

[00:31:13] And you model your game after

[00:31:14] I mean I modeled my game after Billy

    [00:31:16] Why wouldn't I?

    [00:31:18] Right

    [00:31:19] So for Tommy

    [00:31:21] To emulate Tony

[00:31:24] And there are people who have tried

[00:31:26] And have not been successful

[00:31:28] So to do it and be successful

[00:31:30] So if you really look at it as a numbers game

[00:31:32] There's you know let's just say globally

    [00:31:34] There's you know 20,000

    [00:31:36] 30,000 Fuseball players globally

[00:31:38] And there's two people that play that style successfully

[00:31:40] I mean that just tells you

[00:31:42] It's not an easy thing to do

[00:31:44] To do it and be successful

[00:31:46] But you know like Brandon

    [00:31:49] Watching the final

[00:31:52] Brandon shot a couple of left hooks

[00:31:54] Because you talk about Phil Brooks left hook

[00:31:56] And Phil Brooks got one of the best

[00:31:58] But Brandon there were a couple he shot man

[00:32:00] And he's working the ball

[00:32:02] Working the ball and you think it's a pass

[00:32:04] And then he lets that thing fly

    [00:32:06] And it's so nasty

[00:32:08] But again I want to see

[00:32:10] I want to see somebody do that

[00:32:12] You know on a TS table

[00:32:14] You know 50 years ago

[00:32:16] It's not going to happen

[00:32:18] It's not going to happen

[00:32:20] The equipment allows for this kind of play

[00:32:22] It allows for this style

    [00:32:24] Exactly

    [00:32:26] The game has evolved

[00:32:28] It is what it is

[00:32:30] You want to argue about it

    [00:32:32] Call me

[00:32:34] We can meet up in a parking lot

[00:32:36] Somewhere and talk about it

[00:32:38] I can imagine that conversation

    [00:32:40] Right about now

[00:32:44] Speaking of which you were playing

[00:32:46] Not too long ago in

    [00:32:48] Fall River

    [00:32:50] Oh yeah

    [00:32:52] Don Carlos

[00:32:54] You got to tell me

    [00:32:56] What did I miss?

[00:32:58] I had to work that day

    [00:33:00] We had fun

[00:33:02] Chuck and Theo came out

[00:33:04] This was the first time I've ever met Theo

[00:33:06] I heard his name before

    [00:33:08] Super nice guy

    [00:33:10] I drew Theo

    [00:33:12] We had some fun

[00:33:14] It was a good time

    [00:33:16] Old school

    [00:33:18] Theo just came back

[00:33:20] After 30 years of being away

[00:33:22] He's coming out to our

    [00:33:24] On a regular basis

[00:33:26] He's got a table now at home

    [00:33:28] He's coming back

    [00:33:30] He's obviously addicted again

    [00:33:32] But his pull shot

    [00:33:34] As a goalie

[00:33:36] He's one of the people that I worry about the most

[00:33:38] When it comes to the pull shot

[00:33:40] And he's only been back for 3 months now

[00:33:42] That was his bread and butter

    [00:33:44] Back in the day

[00:33:46] I guess he was a top pro

    [00:33:48] But yeah man

    [00:33:50] Theo De Palma

    [00:33:52] He's the real deal

    [00:33:54] Super nice guy

    [00:33:56] They drew it up

[00:33:58] And we drew each other

    [00:34:00] I introduced myself

[00:34:02] And I said how do you want to play

    [00:34:04] I'm a pretty good forward

    [00:34:06] You could play front

    [00:34:08] Kevin Scousas

[00:34:10] Theo Randi is a tour pro

[00:34:12] And he was like I'll play goalie then

[00:34:14] And I was like no dude

[00:34:16] I said you could play front

    [00:34:18] I don't want to play front

    [00:34:20] And I told him

[00:34:22] Just like I tell everybody

    [00:34:24] I get in a draw

[00:34:26] We can have some fun

[00:34:28] If you can do what I ask

    [00:34:30] I'll play my best

[00:34:32] If we lose you can tell everybody it's my fault

    [00:34:34] And he was like

    [00:34:36] Deal

    [00:34:38] So our first

    [00:34:40] Match was a couple

    [00:34:42] Couple guys

[00:34:44] Couple buddies and we beat on them pretty good

    [00:34:46] And then second match

[00:34:48] We ended up playing the guy

[00:34:50] I was supposed to play for money

[00:34:52] I'm not going to say his name

[00:34:54] His name is not coming out of my mouth anymore

[00:34:56] I'll tell you that story Tom

    [00:34:58] I need the details

[00:35:00] I'll tell you what happened

[00:35:02] We promoted the hell out of this thing

[00:35:04] So I'll tell you what happened

    [00:35:06] He had been

    [00:35:08] You know

[00:35:10] This is just how I feel

[00:35:12] And I'm going to preface the story with this

    [00:35:14] If I talk

[00:35:16] As much smack as that guy has talked

    [00:35:18] And I'm telling you

[00:35:20] I'm going to play you for money

[00:35:22] It doesn't matter if I get COVID

[00:35:24] If I get the flu

[00:35:26] It doesn't matter if I get AIDS

    [00:35:28] I could get diabetes

[00:35:30] Tom I could get diabetes

[00:35:32] And you could cut one of my feet off

[00:35:34] I'm still going to play you for money

[00:35:36] I'm going to preface the story with that

[00:35:38] There was a tournament in New Hampshire

    [00:35:40] Two weeks before

    [00:35:42] He went, played

[00:35:44] Came home, tested positive for COVID

    [00:35:46] He texted

[00:35:48] In our little text group

[00:35:50] He said, hey I tested positive for COVID

    [00:35:52] I said, COVID

[00:35:54] I think the protocol now

[00:35:56] You get like three days

[00:35:58] Take some Michael, take a nap

[00:36:00] I'll see you in two weeks

[00:36:02] Take some Michael, take a nap

[00:36:04] And he kept off the week before

[00:36:06] The tournament that we were supposed to play at

    [00:36:08] And he kept

    [00:36:10] I don't really feel too good

[00:36:12] But I'm going to play

[00:36:14] But I'm going to play

[00:36:16] He said, I tested negative but I'm going to play

[00:36:18] I said, yeah whatever man

[00:36:20] Look again this is how I feel

[00:36:22] You could walk here in four minutes

    [00:36:24] I flew 1200 miles for this

    [00:36:26] So anyway

    [00:36:28] He walks in

    [00:36:30] I'm there shooting around

[00:36:32] listen, I'm not going to play. I'm not going to play. He said,

[00:36:36] I still don't feel good. I'm not going to play. And I want you

[00:36:39] to understand something, Tom. If if if somebody comes up to me

[00:36:43] and says, I'm not going to play, I want to give you my best

[00:36:45] and I'm not 100%. Okay, I understand right. And if he and

[00:36:50] if he had turned around and walked out the door and went

    [00:36:52] home, I wouldn't have I wouldn't have any negative

[00:36:57] feelings. Right? Yeah, he stayed he stayed and played

[00:37:00] both events. What? This is after he said he didn't feel the

[00:37:04] best. He didn't feel good and he wasn't going to play me for

[00:37:06] money, but he stayed and played both events. Okay, but so so

[00:37:11] so now so now they draw it up, they draw it up. And I'm a

[00:37:16] little I'm a little upset about it. Right? Yeah. So so he's my

[00:37:20] second round match. Oh, and I tell and I tell Theo I go

[00:37:24] Theo this is how I block him. And he goes okay. And then

[00:37:29] the beat in us because I was just I was so mad. Oh, boy, his goal

[00:37:33] we played his goal he played good. He shot good on Theo. And

[00:37:37] after the match, he'll said hey, you know, you kind of got in

[00:37:40] my head with the with the advice and I said I'm sorry. I

[00:37:43] said look, we'll come back. We're still going to win the

[00:37:45] event. I said when we get back to them, I said you do

[00:37:48] whatever do your own thing. I said I'm just gonna pound

[00:37:50] them and he said okay. And I know that the other guy was

[00:37:54] feeling real good about himself. Fine. Anyway, we came back.

[00:37:58] We played him again. You did the hell out of him. Yeah, we

[00:38:01] ended up we won the draw. We won. I mean, yeah, yeah, that's

[00:38:04] what I was gonna say. You came back and double dipped them. And

[00:38:08] he said yeah, I mean, he didn't win the winners bracket. He I

[00:38:11] think he got third or fourth or something. Yeah, it was a we

[00:38:13] ended up playing we ended up playing Chuck. We played

[00:38:15] chuckles in the finals him and Steve Batista. Yes. And and

[00:38:18] we you know, poor Chuck. I love I kept hitting Chuck with

[00:38:24] the lane pass. I did like 40 in a row till he blocked one. But

[00:38:28] that's what he does. And he finally he blocked one. He goes

[00:38:31] hi finally got one. And then I just I kept doing I kept doing

[00:38:36] it again. And then and then we played the brain and I played

[00:38:40] with a with a local kid that I've known since he was like 12.

[00:38:43] And he just he just likes to hack around and play foosball.

[00:38:46] He's not you know, he's not a tour player, nothing he just

[00:38:48] okay, he's he just likes to hang out and play. He's

[00:38:50] actually he's actually playing in a drive to Kentucky this week to

[00:38:55] buy three tables. Oh, nice. Okay, he's trying. He's trying to

[00:38:59] get something going so but there's a thing it was fun. So

[00:39:04] John John Garcia is playing and this is this is tentative.

[00:39:10] There's you know, he's gonna put out a flyer but August 10th

[00:39:13] August 10 August 10th. One day at the dawn upstairs. No, no

[00:39:18] smoking. He's got the whole hall booked. He's trying to get 10

[00:39:21] tables and and do it right. So and should be good. At least

[00:39:27] this time, our smashdown is until the next weekend. So we're

[00:39:30] gonna Oh, perfect. We're doing a smashdown on the 17th. So

[00:39:33] perfect. Yeah. So you know, maybe you guys come over and

[00:39:37] then and then our guys will go over and you know, we can

[00:39:40] we can get a little support so but overall it was good. I

[00:39:44] was I was a little I had a couple problems because Maple Leafs

[00:39:52] and the Bruins are playing in the playoffs. There you go. Those

[00:39:54] guys are Bruins fans. All those guys are Bruins fans. But no,

[00:39:59] honestly, there there's super nice guys in there. Yeah, you

[00:40:03] know, just come hang out place of foosball they treat you

[00:40:06] right. There was a guy in there. Excuse me, his wife

[00:40:10] made soup. It was homemade soup. Yeah. Have you ever

[00:40:13] had like homemade kale soup like Portuguese soup? I have. I

[00:40:17] have. Tom, it will it will clean you out so bad. Anyway, I had a

[00:40:22] bad a bowl of soup and it was Oh my goodness. It was it was

[00:40:26] like it was like an oil change. It was so bad. But you know,

[00:40:32] fun fun day of foosball. I got to see my family and hang out

[00:40:35] and awesome. So yeah, yeah, hang out in Fall River. You

[00:40:39] know what I mean? You know, these people they they miss

[00:40:42] you. They'd rather you know, they want you to come around.

[00:40:46] So I don't know if they miss me. I come I come around. I smack

[00:40:50] them around. I beat up on them and then they get mad. So well,

[00:40:54] but now the group is a whole the group as a whole is

[00:40:57] improving. You know, and I know great scene. Yeah. And I know

[00:41:01] a couple of the guys they already booked flights for

[00:41:03] nationals. I got him coming down to New Orleans for

[00:41:05] nationals. Okay, okay. It's gonna be good. Now you

[00:41:08] mentioned to me before and we had this conversation but

[00:41:11] we were talking about the the ITSF and the World Series, which

[00:41:14] is coming to Dallas Memorial Day weekend. And you're bailing

[00:41:17] out of me. You're not going to be there. What's up with that?

[00:41:19] Sorry. What's up? Sorry. I so I got this thing. What's it

    [00:41:26] called COVID? That's a name. No, it's a wife. I have a

[00:41:30] wife. Yeah, I'm married. So so that that that thing

[00:41:37] dictates. Okay, it's ball decisions. I see. Unfortunately. I

[00:41:41] mean, fortunately, unfortunately, but you know, it's so you know,

[00:41:46] we had talked about making the ride out there, my wife and I and

[00:41:51] we're just gonna go in another direction. Oh, fortunately,

[00:41:54] unfortunately, I mean, it is what it is. So and no, and

[00:41:57] I'm going to tell you like the fact that nationals is coming

[00:42:00] to New Orleans kind of played into that. Yes, I got you.

[00:42:03] No, it makes sense. You know, that makes sense. I mean, it's a

[00:42:06] it's a reasonable ride for you. Whereas, you know, yeah, well,

[00:42:11] Dallas Dallas was Dallas about nine, nine hours. Yeah, New

[00:42:16] Orleans, New Orleans is like five. So okay, and I talked to

[00:42:22] Chris, I talked to my my my dear, dear friend, my partner

[00:42:25] Chris Folsom about it. And he really wasn't feeling the the

[00:42:29] Dallas event. He definitely wanted to go to nationals. So

[00:42:32] we just decided, okay, you know, I got to run everything. I

[00:42:35] had these channels have to run everything to you know, through

[00:42:37] so, you know, I got I got my I got my my executive assistant,

[00:42:43] my wife executive assistant. Yeah, yeah. And then the CEO of

[00:42:48] my company. My wife is my wife. My dog. True story when

[00:42:51] my my wife and I first got together with I met her in a

[00:42:54] radio station back in many, many years back back in the

[00:42:57] 80s. And she was actually my boss in those days. Whoa, yeah,

[00:43:04] that has not changed. Isn't that isn't that a conflict of

[00:43:08] interest Tom? A little little bit. The ownership was not

[00:43:12] happy. But whatever, whatever. It's Yeah, but yeah, I think I

[00:43:18] get in, I think I get exactly what you're starting your

[00:43:21] executive assistant is really kind of making the appointments

[00:43:24] here for you. So yeah, I just I just show up. Well, okay,

[00:43:28] what about World Tournater Worlds? Yeah, yeah. Okay. Well,

[00:43:36] then at least at least we'll cross the same the same

    [00:43:40] threshold in 2024.

[00:43:42] Yeah. So I just went to the doctor this week and got a

[00:43:48] cortisone shot my left shoulder shoulders jacked up. So I'm

[00:43:52] probably gonna have an MRI here in the next few weeks.

[00:43:55] Okay, I might have my left shoulder done. But if I do, I have

[00:44:00] to schedule it between tournaments. So yeah, because I'm

[00:44:05] going to nationals. I'm going to worlds. I got like worlds. I'm

[00:44:08] pretty pumped about worlds. I'm playing with somebody I never

[00:44:10] played with a world really who you playing with? I'm playing

[00:44:12] with something I'm playing open doubles with Chase Pinnell at

[00:44:14] worlds. Oh, you are. I want to get do me a favor next time

[00:44:18] you talk to chase we got to get him on the show. We got

[00:44:20] to get him on the show. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just I'll

[00:44:23] shoot him a text. I talked to Thomas Dyke recently and I

[00:44:26] thought, you know, those two guys actually would be great to

[00:44:28] have together because they're in the in the in the what is it

[00:44:31] the Knoxville scene? Yeah, they actually just had a tournament

[00:44:34] yesterday. They did. Okay. Yeah, they had one of their 16

[00:44:37] team and you know, 16 tournaments yesterday.

    [00:44:40] Okay, I don't I don't know how it went. I don't know

    [00:44:42] what the results were but I couldn't I couldn't make it. I

[00:44:46] had to work Talladega this weekend. Okay. So and Chris

[00:44:50] Talladega Nascar Talladega. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. If you're

[00:44:54] not first year last. Yeah. Yeah, I was there Ricky Bobby was

[00:45:00] either. Yeah. No. Well, yeah, he was. I saw like six different

[00:45:04] versions of Ricky Bobby. Listen, I heard a story. So funny

[00:45:08] funny, right? So on on the Talladega grounds, like you

[00:45:13] pull in off a Speedway Boulevard and it's Talladega and

[00:45:15] there's cops everywhere. State police, every like from every

[00:45:20] county they send cops. It's insane. I've never experienced

[00:45:23] anything like this for my life, right? And then across the

[00:45:27] street is is basically what they call free camping. Right. So

[00:45:32] to camp in Talladega you got to pay camping. And if you

[00:45:37] want to camp on the infield, which is basically the infield

[00:45:40] is like they race around the track around the track is around

[00:45:43] the infield. So to stay on the infield, it's big money. It's

[00:45:47] big money. No doubt. It's limited space. Yeah. So my boss

[00:45:53] was like, Hey, we don't go across the street. He said,

[00:45:56] it's it's bananas over there. It's long as no, it is he said

    [00:46:02] dude, it's it's you'll get you'll get killed over there.

[00:46:04] I'm like, Okay, well, a couple of guys walked over to get

[00:46:08] some propane from across the street and they told us right

[00:46:10] now I told I said this is this is racial profiling at its best.

[00:46:16] Okay, okay. They said last night, these people were partying and

[00:46:22] fell asleep with and they these people bring rigs with

[00:46:26] speakers and stages and I mean, they go buck wild at Talladega.

[00:46:30] Like I said, I've never seen anything like it. Sure. They

[00:46:32] said that they said they passed out with a massive

[00:46:35] speaker playing free bird on a loop all night. My god.

[00:46:39] Seriously? Oh, can I tell you on a loop? Can you all night?

[00:46:43] That I mean that would hurt me. I mean, you have no idea how much

[00:46:46] that would hurt me because I had to play it thousands of times.

[00:46:49] You know, as an air talent in in rock radio, I had to play it

    [00:46:53] thousands of times.

[00:46:56] Tom, do you know how many mullets I saw this weekend?

[00:47:01] Okay, I don't want to do you know,

[00:47:03] all one or 2000 mullets. Just mullets. But like I said, free

[00:47:08] bird free bird on a loop in Alabama said that speaker would

[00:47:13] have got shot or lit on fire or something you would think

[00:47:16] pulled plug. Yeah, no free bird all night and nobody showed

[00:47:19] it. He said, dude, nobody showed up. He said I passed out

[00:47:21] around two in the morning. He said I got up this morning

[00:47:24] seven ago get some coffee and damn free bird still play

[00:47:28] I said, dude, no way. See, that would never happen at a

    [00:47:34] foosball tournament. Well,

[00:47:35] not listen, I see some things happen at a

[00:47:38] football tournament. Hey, Tom, I saw a dog take a dump on a rug

[00:47:42] at a foosball. Yes, you did. I still remember you saying

[00:47:46] that too. Yeah, one of those one of those clippable

[00:47:50] moments, you know, for for promoting a show. Yeah, I saw

[00:47:53] a dog take. Yeah, take a dump on a roof. Yeah, but I've

[00:47:58] never heard free bird playing a loop all night. That's the

[00:48:01] most country. I mean, that's some of the most country

[00:48:03] stuff I've ever heard in my life. Here's something I got to

[00:48:05] tell you and it's foosball related by the way. Yes,

[00:48:08] yes, Friday night was it not last not last Friday

[00:48:11] because my wife's birthday but the week before I was out

[00:48:14] playing at the usual dyp and someone someone in the in

[00:48:21] the pool hall had control of the jukebox. Now, I don't know

[00:48:24] if you're familiar with what touch tunes does but it's like a

[00:48:26] digital. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, they had loaded it up

[00:48:30] with one song that kept playing and every once in a while

[00:48:34] you get a break but every every other song for three

[00:48:39] hours never gonna give you up by Rick Astley. Oh, you

[00:48:43] got Rick rolled and over and over and oh you got

[00:48:47] Rick roll. I would unplug that thing. I would unplug that.

[00:48:50] I mean, I was like, are you serious? Are you kidding me? Why?

[00:48:57] Did you guys not find who did that and just beat the hell out

[00:49:01] of them? The place was pretty jamming. You know, there's

[00:49:03] quite a few, there's like 30 tables in the place. So

[00:49:05] there's a lot of people. But but somebody decided they were

[00:49:09] just gonna mess with everybody else and just I mean, I

[00:49:12] wanted I was ready to just shoot myself. You know, the

[00:49:16] 15th time it came on. Yeah, come on. I'm just saying, look,

[00:49:21] you know, don't do that to your fellow human being. It's just

[00:49:24] well, it's it's especially this is torture to the economy, the

[00:49:27] state of the economy. Right? Like you must be making good

[00:49:31] money if you can just play Rick Ashley on a loop for three

[00:49:34] hours. Right. I mean, that most a couple hundred bucks

    [00:49:37] touch tunes. I mean, it's a it's a buck 30 a throw for

[00:49:40] each song. Well, and then you can pay extra and get your

[00:49:43] song up to the front. Right. So I mean,

[00:49:46] fucking half. It's crazy. It's crazy. So I hope they got their

[00:49:51] jollies but just if you're listening, if you're listening

[00:49:54] to the show and you and you were there and you did it, I

[00:49:57] hate you. Yeah, I hear you listen to this show. I hope you

[00:50:00] wrecked your car on the way home.

[00:50:05] I hope Rick Ashley comes to your house and won't leave.

[00:50:08] Yeah, right? Just saying that in your living room. What was

[00:50:11] that? Oh, how I met your mother? You ever watched that

[00:50:13] show? I've heard of it, but I've never seen it. That's a good

[00:50:16] show. I've watched the whole series like four times. No

[00:50:18] kidding. I just I watch it. Yeah, they're what but one of the

[00:50:22] things in the show is one of the main characters, Marshall, he

[00:50:26] has a fiero that was handed down to him from his

[00:50:29] cardiac fiero. Okay. Yeah. Fee right? Yeah. And in the tape

[00:50:34] deck is there's this is a tape stuck in there. It only

[00:50:38] plays one song. What was their name? God, dog it I forgot but

[00:50:44] it's they did like one episode about it was pretty good.

[00:50:47] That's a lot of he said he said he'll drive you nuts. He said

[00:50:49] but you'll come back around and they're singing it again on

[00:50:51] a road trip. I don't know. But yeah, that that's just now.

[00:50:54] No, don't don't do that. It's just oh man. It's in front of

[00:50:57] a Friday night. A Friday night. Pulled all filled with

[00:51:00] people. Yes. Oh, and we're trying to you know, and

[00:51:02] we're you know, we're trying to get fired up, you know,

[00:51:04] and play foosball. And this this this play mass song. Yeah, I

[00:51:11] would have made an announcement. Whoever played

[00:51:13] Rick Ashley come to the front desk. Right? Please kick him the

[00:51:16] hell out. Take a picture of them. Right. And kick them out

[00:51:19] put it on the wall be like never they're never allowed

[00:51:21] back in here. Exactly. Like we got a music we got a music

[00:51:24] shame this person. This is unacceptable. No.

[00:51:30] Yeah, I can see where if somebody is is you know, trying to

[00:51:36] get get back at somebody else, you know, maybe there's some

[00:51:39] kind of, you know, something that somebody did to somebody

[00:51:42] do it in your own time in your own place. Not in a public

[00:51:46] setting. Three Tom threes the max. That's three three. Okay.

[00:51:51] Three. Do you want to go three and then everybody goes

[00:51:53] out. That's funny man. Oh, that's what time starts. Oh

[00:51:57] man, somebody's getting beat up. Yeah. Oh yeah.

    [00:52:01] Don't get me started. It's it's there's nothing quite worse

[00:52:04] nothing quite worse. But anyway, I digress. I mean, free bird

[00:52:09] free bird on a loop for nine hours. That's getting up

[00:52:12] there too, man. I mean, you know, at least there was a time

[00:52:15] when I thought that song was okay, you know, back in the

[00:52:17] day when you know, when it first came out 45 years ago.

    [00:52:22] Maybe it was okay.

[00:52:25] 2024. No, no, no, no, no. Yeah, we've moved on. We've moved

[00:52:30] on. Yeah. Greengrass and high tides from the outlaws probably

[00:52:33] don't want to hear that again real soon. But that's okay. Oh,

[00:52:35] goodness. Oh, goodness. So what's left for the Hall of

[00:52:40] Fame tonight? What's what's who's still playing? Well, open

[00:52:44] mix is still going. Okay. All right. And who's got a

    [00:52:49] contention for open mixed?

[00:52:51] Top 10. Right now we got Tommy, your and Hannah Smith. Yes.

[00:52:56] Another European team, Sven Wanzel, I'm not trying to bang up

    [00:53:00] your name. And a lovely young lady who's got a name I can't

[00:53:04] pronounce. Okay, Tony and his girlfriend, Sylvia Pantilli.

[00:53:07] Tracy Brubaker, Kevin Romero, Billy Pappas, Karen Lomono,

[00:53:12] Robert Athon, Liz Hill, sitting top 10. And then Brandon

[00:53:15] Morland and Sullivan are playing Sarah, Clay Bund and Thomas

[00:53:20] Haas, Thomas Haas, multi table world champion at this

[00:53:23] tournament. Kenneth Dale and Jody Work. And I think they're

[00:53:27] waiting on a match somewhere in here. Yeah, Brandon and

[00:53:30] Isabella playing Jacob and Maya on table 25 right now.

    [00:53:34] That's a good that's gonna be a good match right there.

[00:53:36] Yeah. And I think I think Jacob and Maya have beaten

[00:53:39] them before. I believe so. But yeah, mixed a lot of

[00:53:45] tough teams. Again, 50 teams in open mix 50. Wow. That's a

[00:53:50] great turnout. Yeah, really excellent turnout. And just top

[00:53:54] talent. Was it Tom LaFredo? I think it was it designated?

[00:53:58] Did he win designated with?

[00:54:00] With Hannah, I believe let me pull it up real quick. No, no,

[00:54:06] no, it was Brandon Morland and Linda Lai. Oh, then

[00:54:09] the lead and the lie. Todd and Hannah got fifth.

[00:54:13] Oh, I thought they were gonna win that one. Well, they have

[00:54:17] before I think they've won it. Or else we can just run through

[00:54:20] real quick. Let me say we'll name off some winners Cody, Cody

[00:54:22] Byre got goalie wars. Bjorn, Bjorn Hoffman one forward

[00:54:28] shootout. Yes, I saw that over singles 63 and over singles

[00:54:31] Michael Viet. Michael Vite. Yeah, Michael Vite is actually

    [00:54:36] one of our patreons.

[00:54:37] Sweet, sweet Michael Vite. Thank you, sir. Yeah, I'm not

[00:54:41] I'm not gonna announce the dyps. Senior singles was Tracy

[00:54:44] McMillan. Shout out to CJ Cannon for runner up he good for him.

[00:54:49] Wow, he beat he beat Mike Philbrook to get there Mike and

    [00:54:52] Greg,

[00:54:52] CJ Cannon beef, Mike Philbrook match ball. Yeah, wow match.

[00:54:57] Women's expert singles was Diana Portela Portalis, I

[00:55:03] believe. Oh, again, I apologize to anyone whose name I

[00:55:06] jack up. Senior men's doubles was Todd LaFredo and

[00:55:09] Darren Bone. Senior women's doubles. Miss Tracy Brubaker, Miss

[00:55:15] Maggie Strong. That's 15. Tough team. Tough team. Yeah, women's

[00:55:20] expert doubles Kelly Wyatt and Judy Schober shout out to Judy

[00:55:24] when it go Judy, yeah. Yeah. Let's see designated mixed I

[00:55:30] think we just announced that Linda and Brandon handicap

[00:55:33] doubles that was Jacob Balcos and Miss Hannah Smith.

[00:55:37] And it's kicking by nice. Yeah, expert singles Diego Zuniga.

    [00:55:41] I don't know where he's from. He's I think he's Peruvian, but

[00:55:44] not mistaken. The first time I've heard his name. Let me see

[00:55:48] if I could pull him up. He's really good player. I watched him.

[00:55:52] Forgot the match now was a singles match and he was

[00:55:55] really I mean killing the competition. He is Peruvian

[00:55:59] yes sir. Yeah. It looks like he's had a yeah one expert

[00:56:03] singles he's sitting ninth and expert mixed. I mean to win an

[00:56:08] event never mind multiple events but to win an event at this

[00:56:10] tournament. Yeah. You know you're doing something Sullivan

[00:56:14] women's singles amateur singles. We've got say Saud Allah

[00:56:22] scene again I apologize. Victor Tobias won the winners

[00:56:28] bracket got double dipped unfortunately. Yeah open

[00:56:31] singles again Tony Spreedman. Shout out to Tommy or for a

[00:56:36] strong second place finish. Yeah that was good good match.

[00:56:39] It's it's funny how Tommy you know he's he's been able to

[00:56:43] beat Tony in the past. We saw it happen at Texas State. It's

[00:56:47] just now it's like it's he's trying to try to get back

[00:56:51] there again. You know it's so so difficult. It seems like

[00:56:54] Ryan and Tony get found Tommy's number. Yeah. Yeah it's

[00:57:01] I think they're beating him with experience. Yep. That's

[00:57:05] probably a problem you know rookie singles Vincent are

[00:57:10] fed Fader Lehen for their for their learn for their line.

[00:57:14] Federal line. Vincent. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Pro doubles

[00:57:20] pro doubles Kenneth Dale and Joel Munoz that's Brandon

[00:57:24] Munoz brother. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Joel and Kenny

    [00:57:28] won pro doubles. Wow. That's a that's a good win again. 94

[00:57:32] teams. It's a thick field. What did you know? What who came in

[00:57:37] second and pro doubles by the way. Second was a Sven and Robin

[00:57:41] Hankey. Oh interesting. Wow. Yeah. And then Dwayne Dwayne and

[00:57:46] Bjorn got third but yes then one one sold and Robin Hankey

[00:57:51] so clearly those finals had no Americans in the finals for

[00:57:55] pro doubles. No sir. No again a lot a lot of these anything

[00:57:59] under open there were a limited number of Americans in these

[00:58:03] finals. Yeah beginner singles. Let's see John Vindus Johnny

[00:58:11] Vindus. Oh yeah. Let's see amateur doubles we've got Jess

[00:58:18] Herman and Ab al Harabi amateur singles amateur doubles

[00:58:24] champs women's open doubles again Miss Hannah and Miss Sullivan

[00:58:30] Christina Fuchs and Liz Hill runners up shout out to Christina

[00:58:33] Liz that's a great players. Yeah exactly. Open doubles is

[00:58:39] still finishing up but we know that Tommy and Ryan won that

[00:58:43] event. Yep. Expert doubles still finishing up but Ethan

[00:58:49] win and Philip Perros won the winners bracket. Still a couple

[00:58:53] teams left in there. Toku Tokuya Kojima and Jerry Todd

[00:58:59] sitting third Tony Gashie and Basir Sika Bruce Jones and

[00:59:04] Nathan Ham Jonah Grieve and Julian Wortman sitting fifth so

[00:59:08] there's one three more matches left before the finals in that

[00:59:12] one rookie doubles still going pro singles. Let's see rookie

[00:59:16] doubles is winner the losers playing their Dan Ham and

[00:59:20] Josh Young sitting King C Steve Sussman Steve Sussman is a

[00:59:23] new hamster. Steve no Steve the first time I met him was was

[00:59:27] way back when in New York State championships and I want to

[00:59:31] say 2012 2012 maybe 2013 in Syracuse New York and he and I

[00:59:37] get to play together in the opening night it was on a

    [00:59:39] Friday night I believe was a D. Y. P. two goalies two goalies

[00:59:44] yep and we got trashed by by Kristen Grogan and her

[00:59:49] partner and I've forgotten who's playing her forward but

[00:59:52] Kristen is such a fierce goalie and Steve was playing up front

[00:59:55] and just couldn't get through her. I mean it was you know we're

[00:59:58] beginners in those days and just but but we had a blast I really

[01:00:02] got to know Steve at that point. I think he's a super nice

[01:00:05] guy. Steve's a super nice guy. Yes he's been around for a

[01:00:08] long time him and Eddie Perez playing Vera Vera Urbanovic

[01:00:14] and Zach Frost for the losers. That's gonna be tough

[01:00:17] doubles. Yeah that Vera Urbanovic she's a she's good

    [01:00:21] she's seen her name around a lot lately. She's she's she's

[01:00:24] getting really good again pro singles Sammy Sammy won that

[01:00:29] Jacob second and they're still playing out the rest of the

[01:00:32] loser side beginner doubles is still playing so open open was

[01:00:40] championship pro is championship and women's was

[01:00:42] championship format everything else is playing out

[01:00:46] beginner doubles 23 teams Nathaniel Shafira and

[01:00:51] Jared Rosmarin Rosmarin. Yeah sitting King seat I do know how

[01:00:57] to read believe me trust me I did. I was in high school for five

[01:01:02] years Tom I stayed in here because I love so much. Yeah let's

[01:01:06] see open mixed still running expert mix has started and

[01:01:11] we've got 35 teams an expert mix a long list of expert teams

[01:01:15] here and then the Sunday no conflict D. Y. P. has not yet

[01:01:19] been a bit drawn up but if you look at look at the tournament

[01:01:23] as a whole 12345677 events still functioning yeah it's

[01:01:31] technically seven o'clock in Las Vegas right now that is

[01:01:35] correct. They could you know I think they had I'm not sure

    [01:01:39] how many tables I think I saw 60 ballpark 60 tables 70

[01:01:43] tables so you know this thing could be done by midnight

[01:01:46] you know I think yeah shout out to Mary and her crew for

[01:01:51] another successful Hall of Fame. And of course the inductees

[01:01:54] this year who we had Brendan Flaherty and Bob Maloney and

[01:02:02] enjoy Joe Coppola. Yep Joe Coppola yeah. Yeah congratulations

[01:02:06] congratulations to the new inductees into the Hall of

[01:02:08] Fame. Big time. Hey yeah you know I talked to my good buddy

[01:02:14] Bruce Walton he was there and he was just telling me about you

[01:02:18] know the attendance the room the room the tables are set up he

[01:02:22] said everything's great. Yes I was a little jealous but they

[01:02:26] said that the hotel is in the top three I know I heard Clay

[01:02:32] and Adam commenting about it top three of ballrooms and also

[01:02:36] just the rooms themselves like the quality of the hotel

[01:02:41] just fantastic and of course you know Vegas has everything

    [01:02:44] anyway and it's a resort and it's a casino too but they're they

[01:02:47] said they said the food you know there's just great great

[01:02:50] choices and boy if Adam Gilson is saying something about the

[01:02:54] food then you know well yeah I asked him how the buffet was

[01:02:57] and he said he hasn't tried it yet he said but everything

[01:02:59] else is really good so I mean hey again another successful

[01:03:04] major congratulations to the winners also to the runners up

[01:03:09] and yeah Tom you know I'm jealous I couldn't go but at

[01:03:13] least we got to talk about it. Yeah no doubt hey I'm really

[01:03:16] glad that you made it back this this early I wasn't even

[01:03:19] sure you're gonna be here tonight. No I mean I after

[01:03:25] after hearing Free Bird for the 14 time I just I was like I

[01:03:29] gotta go. Ricky Bobby probably understands that you needed

[01:03:33] to go home. Yeah well I mean if you're not first you're

[01:03:35] last so there you go there you go. So we are definitely

[01:03:40] gonna be back again next week and we really have to get I

[01:03:52] plans let's put it that way. Sure we got plans. Sure I'll be

[01:03:55] here. I'm here for the rides. Awesome looking forward to it

[01:03:59] but yeah let's let's get Chase Pannell and even Thomas

[01:04:02] Dyke to come back on and of course before you guys play

[01:04:04] together that'd be awesome to hear about your plans and

[01:04:08] your strategies want to hear what your strategies are

[01:04:10] going to be. It's when strategies just win just win just
