Eddie Bodin won the Pro Doubles finals with Johel Munoz at the 2024 National Championship in New Orleans. He's a great player and even better guest on FoosTalk Live. The "big question"-who's got a better game-Brandon or Johel Munoz?

[00:03:43] So it was, man, I just, it was such a fun tournament Yeah And then again, tonight's guest got to watch him play What I thought was the match of the weekend Yes And, you know, this is, this is a guy, I don't know him too long
[00:03:57] But he's quickly becoming like one of my favorite guys To hang out with at a Fuswell tournament Awesome, very cool Yeah, it was, it was a good time, Tom Yeah So just a quick, a quick aside before we introduce Eddie
[00:04:10] I know we were talking before about these, these t-shirts And J. Teal of 3D Fus has really kind of been the mastermind By getting, by getting these together, so to speak And of course he produced these over the last few weeks
[00:04:26] And when, of course, when you guys got together at Nationals He gave you yours And he did a really bang up job, I gotta say But the shirts themselves, he's gonna do a very similar type Of shirt coming up for the world's, or, you know
[00:04:41] The tornado championships coming up on Labor Day weekend And he wanted people to know, if you're listening to the show And you'd like one of these And by the way, I'll show you the back of this one
[00:04:50] This is, see if we can see any of it at all Yeah, they're pretty, they're pretty sexy I'm not gonna lie Yeah, it's got the big Fusball radio logo on the back Which I'm like, oh man, dude, that's killer

[00:05:35] Man, I hope we see more of these on the tour Yeah, yeah JTEL, I'm a 2X buddy I'll model any of your stuff The biggest billboard R-A-P-O-S-O Let's go, buddy Listen, I'm just saying that the quality, the texture I mean, it breathes well I wore it on Saturday
[00:05:56] And it was hot It was hot as balls in that room Right But I mean, it wasn't Comfortable I didn't really sweat through the shirt It was good Very cool Now, on the sleeve you've got various... We've got what is it? 3D Fus here on this side
[00:06:13] Fus gadgets on my right There you go And then 3D Fus over here And then we got... Your name? This stuff Yeah And Fus hub And Fus works From Boise Yeah, I mean And then it's just a high quality shirt Yeah I really...
[00:06:32] I bought some Fus jerseys before And I've had some gifted to me And I appreciate all of them I do This is a very high quality shirt And Jay Just gotta say, Jay killed it Jay, thank you so much for doing this, man It's such a cool gesture
[00:06:50] Jay too, of course, a supporter And a Patreon member So anyway The 2024 Nationals What an incredible weekend I mean, it just seemed like there was... The energy there was pretty high In a very deep field of talented players Not the least of which was in the Pro-Doubles Division
[00:07:09] Of course, Randy, I know that you did... You and your partner did what you could You and Chris were... Listen, Pro-Doubles was deep Yeah I mean, we were the four seed Right We played them We had a bye We won our first
[00:07:25] And then we played Eddie and Joelle And they beat us in four They beat us pretty good Wow Wow We... Chris and I had discussed it Actually, we figured if we get through them Then we just... So again, we had Shan, Koffee and Soffie in our bracket too
[00:07:44] That's a team That's a team we've played before We beat before, we've lost to before Sure But we really... If we figured our mentality was If we can get through Eddie and Joelle We just got to get through the girls And whoever's coming out of the other side
[00:08:00] And the girls, I mean, the ladies, Sullivan and Hannah And whoever's coming out of the other side You know, we'll just... There's some deep talent, man Lots of deep talent You know, when you come down to it The Pro-Doubles finals, man I mean, I was riveted
[00:08:15] It was just an amazing thing Evan McGregor and Mark Kraus Versus Joelle and our guest, Eddie Bowden Eddie, congratulations And welcome to Fooz Talk Live Thank you, thank you, thank you And, man, it's... First of all, I've seen you play before But not like this
[00:08:36] Not at this level, man It was just extraordinary When was the last time you were in that kind of a situation Where it went down to final ball? Oh, man, man, I can't remember one Well, so last year we went to No Pro Nationals in Oklahoma
[00:08:54] That Tony Owens and them through Mm-hmm And me and my partner in Expert Dough Was Kevin Hayes lost to Jerry Todd And CJ Cannon Right Six-four in the fifth So that was the first time I ever went to overtime And it was nerve-wracking
[00:09:16] This was way worse than that, though Ha ha ha ha It was... This was way worse It was crazy Just the... And you and Joelle, by the way Were brilliant in your switching You know, you would switch in the right moments How did that work out?
[00:09:32] Did you guys have that planned out in advance As to how you were going to switch? No, we did it against Randy a little bit, too Problem is, at times I was just getting broasted back there Mm-hmm And I would be like, okay Let's change something up
[00:09:47] You know, I didn't... I think I shot... We switched I would say pretty much every game of every match we played in And I think I shot the ball two times Once on Mark Two What a chance to win it Yes He blocked a push side
[00:10:06] And then once against Shan and Safi And I made a push side on Shan And that's the only two times I shot the ball Twice I attempted to pass the ball on Safi Once on Evan, and that was the only other time
[00:10:18] I tried to play offense pretty much the whole tournament Okay I mean, but with Joelle, all you got to do is just Get it past the three rod and He's a freak Yeah His five is really smooth He's got a lot of really good options
[00:10:36] His ball is really good And I mean, he just lives with the ball And when he was shooting while he was tough Because he was killing the corners He's got a good middle Yeah It's Brandon's brother It's, you know, they... I mean, he was just really... He played...
[00:10:53] I mean, look, Eddie, you played great I told you that after the final Yeah, you came up and gave me a hug Oh, dude, you told me you felt like you didn't play well But dude, you got good... Look, Evan McGregor is... He's a really, really good player
[00:11:06] The kid's solid He's won a lot He's been in a lot of high pressure matches I mean, you got blocks You cleared the ball successfully There were a couple of times you switched Stole the ball Dude, you played... You played great, dude, you played...
[00:11:19] Listen, Nationals is a major You're a national pro champ, dude That's a huge title I mean, seriously, congratulations I was so proud of you, dude I was so proud of you I was so pumped for you, dude I couldn't have been more excited for myself So... Right, right
[00:11:36] You know? But so this is the thing, dude Like how long have you been coming out and playing? How many tournaments have you hit? Like what is this? Like your fourth tournament or something? Like really? No, no, no So... I know I know
[00:11:49] I started playing in like around 06 But I never... You know, I was just playing at our locals here And then I quit in about 09 And then we started again in 19 And I went to Texas State in 2019 Won beginner doubles, fifth and rookie doubles And then COVID hit
[00:12:13] And then we went maybe 20 or 21 And I've been maybe three or four tournaments a year since then So this is maybe 10, 11 tournaments that I've been to That's extraordinary Man, to be at the level of pros in that period of time I mean, who's been...
[00:12:32] Who you've been working with? I mean, obviously having a partner helps But who's been helping me out? Randy, I'm looking at Randy's face So I mean, listen... We've been working with him Hold on We're very lucky I mean, from Lafayette, Louisiana I mean, first day I ever played
[00:12:53] Thooseball was against Terry Rue, Keisha Rue, Matt And Joyce Stewart Wow I mean, first time I ever grabbed the rod That's... They came every single Thursday night That's who we played against That's your local Not to mention there was five other world champions In the lower ranks
[00:13:11] I mean, and at that time, Joyce Stewart Was winning world champions with Frédéric Every year, that was like in her prime So we didn't have a choice You either quit playing Thooseball or you got better Well, now that I came back
[00:13:25] I mean, we just countless names That... I could name that has helped But Brandon Munoz works for me So every morning at 7 a.m. We play Thooseball Do you really? Every single day Wow Wow So every single day You don't have it when you play him
[00:13:42] You don't have a choice but to get better Yeah, that explains a lot I don't think Brandon has a choice or he's fired Yep Never Never No And I mean really, it actually hurts me a lot In... Expert because I fall into the I'm playing Brandon mode and
[00:14:03] As dumb as it may sound that it hurts me Because I... Me and Brandon play and I go so quick And then I realize, oh Why am I losing to You know, whoever It's like, wait Back up off the table It's like, okay
[00:14:17] It's because you're going to pass Instead of like looking for a hole Or looking for a shot Or you know, it's just Right It helps And it's helping me grow Grow But it also equally hurts me because I get in trouble with it sometimes Mm-hmm Mm-hmm
[00:14:33] Well, you know, you're Recognizing that which is good Yep It's kind of so It's kind of like putting the cap before the horse Right? Because when you When you're talking about a player like Brandon That's a multiple world champion One of the best players in the world
[00:14:49] Who can just run you over And you know, you're You're going to play him every day Keeping up with him Which is wonderful Yeah But then you have to recognize When you're in a match Against somebody that's not Brandon Like I just have to slow down
[00:15:03] And take my time and beat this person So, you know Exactly Foosball is 90% mental, you know And it's like when you start Understanding the game Execution You can execute to a level You hit a roof You hit a ceiling After that, dude It's all up here
[00:15:21] So, but the thing is Like I said man Past couple years I've watched your progression And like defensively You know You're making good decisions When I played in Mississippi A couple months ago I told you Your five look great You're consistently progressing Which is
[00:15:40] That's what any foosball player wants They just want to get better And be competitive So You know And again Having multiple world champions In your area to play against Getting to play To ref Dude, if I got a buddy back home Solid Real good player Phil Sales Right
[00:15:57] Phil, yes He's great Naturally talented And I told him I said dude If you can play One tournament a quarter That changes everything There you go It changes everything You, I mean Realistically You get to a tournament And you know Like some I struggle maybe
[00:16:12] Hitting a certain pass And get to a tournament And come back from that tournament It's like That pass is locked in Ready to go for the next one Nice You know Back to Helping who You know Yeah, get to play Brandon But I owe Randy a shout out
[00:16:27] Randy Randy Eric Holdner Shannon Coley Dewey Culpepper All four of those guys have Just poured into me When I Anytime I ask a question And we're at a tournament And I'm like Hey, why You know Why do you do this or What about this or You know like
[00:16:43] How does this pass work Or how does this shot work And I mean 20 30 minutes An hour However long For them to explain it to me So I definitely owe those guys A lot for For helping me progress also Yeah, well you're my boy Right and again
[00:16:58] That's the hit I want I want you to get better If you get better It makes me better That's just how I feel about it You know You're Improving You're beating me now So I have to figure it out So I can beat you And Right
[00:17:10] That's all I want If it was easy then There'd be no point So Yep But you know Dude I love it I love foosball man I'll help anybody But like I said You're my I like you Helping you is easy So That's the hit Yeah man Yeah Yeah
[00:17:25] So So pro doubles at Nationals You just want to pro doubles In Mississippi A couple months ago You're on You're on a little run What's the rest of the year Looking like You're hitting worlds I don't know that Man worlds That time of the year
[00:17:42] Is rough for me So I don't play foosball From like September to March At all like Really? Okay No yeah I like to duck on too much so And that kind of starts off my hunting So I shut it down a little while
[00:17:55] I may hit some balls here and there But I'm not going to a tournament I'm not doing Any Kind of work on my game But I just kind of Quit So World is kind of I didn't get any partners If I get a good partner I may
[00:18:08] I may go but I don't know yet Next is Mississippi State though I'm playing I'm playing Expert with Brian Ingram And I'm playing pro with Balcos Jacob Balcos Nice Wow Yeah Jacob Nice That's gonna be a great team right there You and Jake Yeah, it'll be fun Yeah
[00:18:27] Well even expert Brian Ingram Is seasoned Great player He's one expert doubles I think at Mississippi But I know he's I know him and Keith Bates Have won an expert title before Absolutely You know he's played Gold for Dewey a bunch So he's He's a good goalie
[00:18:43] Smart player You know If you can just end And Jacob of course is You know one of the best players On tour right now So anytime you get to Play with somebody and just Get some You know Experience advice Whatever it's I mean Dude you're just
[00:18:58] You're putting the work in Which is good What's like What's your I mean obviously I know you're hitting The table of Brandon every day But what's your practice Regiment like Um I mean You know Nowadays it's more Along the lines of Learning mentally Not necessarily physically
[00:19:17] Right so like me and Brandon Are playing and I'll do something stupid And he'll be like Alright time out Come over here Let's talk about why you did that And you know Let's progress mentally Physically Anybody that's an expert And above Can hit all the same passes
[00:19:32] All the same shots Maybe not at the same Execution rate Right Sure Um But not everybody understands Mentally when the guys You know Rates You know Racing you to the wall Well let's hit off the wall up Or Or let's fit You know Down to the wall
[00:19:47] Back to the second man Or you know Whatever And if they're giving you the Quick shuffle defense Okay how are you gonna beat that Defense Do you have a cut back Can you race them to the pool side Can you go around You know So now
[00:19:59] The practice is playing Singles against Brandon But more importantly It's mainly just The mental side of it And talking I mean look Every Friday we cook at the office I mean we have Three to five world Champions at the office Playing foosball from Do you? 9 a.m. Friday
[00:20:15] To 2 p.m. Friday Oh man Yeah so I mean it's You know we're all bouncing Ideas off of each other And And Eddie are Just I mean really trying to get better Eddie are you hiring Just wondering Just wondering I mean It's not that easy It's crazy
[00:20:30] I mean You know Isabel, Brandon Look some lower ranked World champions Tommy Malonso Kevin Miguez Sullivan, Terry I mean they all I mean You know they're not there every week But they all come Make a pass You know Once a month or so Nice
[00:20:48] So just to give us a little Background as far as your Your What you do for a living What What's your What's your business like Yeah so I own a few different businesses I own a gutter company I got the shirt on here
[00:21:01] I own an air conditioned company A fence company And an oil field company out of Houston No kidding Wow So you have You have a very busy Monday I take it I have very busy Like 20 hours a day Yeah Yeah Wow Yes It's tough You are So
[00:21:20] I guess the word would be ambitious I guess that's probably the best way to put it That or you know Kind of dumb like the wife would say Why do you do this to yourself It's called a living That's right And explain to me
[00:21:36] What is it about duck hunting And great foosball players Because We know Hannah Smith really well And she loves that sport Both she and Blacklin are heavy into that So what is it about They've been busting me up To come hunting with me over here Yeah Really
[00:21:52] I mean Yeah just kind of where we grew up at I mean like you know We played sports and hunted Our whole life I mean you know from Four or five years old That's all we did Okay So now and I fell in love with that
[00:22:05] More than anything else So now when that takes precedence over Any other hobby I have Man And how old were you when you started playing foosball Oh like 18 or 19 So I mean I didn't even know I didn't even know it adjusted Huh So yeah So you're
[00:22:22] You're gonna ask them You're gonna ask them the question, Tom The question What was Question What was the uh The How old Okay 18 or 19 When you first started But what was the What was the table that you saw What was the first table you saw
[00:22:36] And what kind was it Uh That was the older model tornadoes Okay Was the tornado Gotcha Yep Yeah Like a like a A champ What do they call it A classic or Or a whirlwind One of those No whatever the one had The white stripe Along the wall
[00:22:51] Where you couldn't hit the Bang shots Was it was it a Was it a brown marble A gray marble A brown Brown brown Brown Yeah Big big big round aluminum feet Yep Those were the best tables Yeah Those were the best tables Those things were like bricks
[00:23:08] They were so good Yeah So did you Did you notice uh Any issues with the tables at this tournament Yeah Every single two bar On every single table Was bent in half Really Yeah Really I told you Tom I told you Wow There were a lot of them
[00:23:25] Table 20 The table we played our match in Was the only one that I saw That had good rods on every Like every rod was good Huh And they had a handle problem On Chris's uh Two bar Really Yeah So every time we would flip
[00:23:38] Every to every match we would flip I'm like let me check the sides And I would pick the side With the best three rod And the least banged up two rod I'd give up the ball because it's like I mean And these are new New tables
[00:23:54] As far as I know Oh I don't know the answer to that question Yeah I do have a question for you though Randy Did you notice the lighting on table one That it was a little bit More dim than normal Well Um I know the light was higher
[00:24:11] But I just curious if it was just me in my eyes Or if you notice that Well this is the thing Ed I wasn't good enough to make it to table one I didn't I did get to table two And I did notice the light on table two
[00:24:24] Was a little dimmer So if it were the same Then yes For some reason the pit tables Now table three I watched And it looked like the lighting was fine But Yeah but it didn't I don't think it had a suspended light on it though No On three
[00:24:40] No the light was mounted The light was mounted Yeah the lights on one and two were a little weird You know I And again I appreciate Mary Moore And everything she does obviously And Mr. Donald's one of my favorite people You know anybody that's trying to
[00:24:55] Run foosball, promote foosball I have high regard for them But I think this comes back to It's just more of a manufacturing thing though Right I mean it's Well and yeah and again
[00:25:06] Just me as a player I would think you would want your best tables in the pit Yeah You know And I didn't hear anything good I didn't hear anything good from any player about any pit table I heard was how they were
[00:25:17] They were just not good tables in the pit So somebody made a comment that table one Was the same table one that they've been using for like five or six tournaments I don't know if that was true But that's just what I heard Okay Well it's It's wrapped
[00:25:29] It's an advertising table so But and again If the table Like if the cabinet's good You know if you got to swap the rods out You know but I just I haven't I haven't had a player tell me like Dude that's a great table No I just
[00:25:45] Hasn't been any of that Nothing Yeah and it's It's This is something that occurred I want to think it was 2021 at tornado championships There was an issue with With the bearings And it came down to the rods themselves Weren't quite polished Or they weren't the same metal
[00:26:04] And they were grinding on the On the The bearing so badly That it was kind of bleeding like a gray A white flake Yeah powder Yeah There's a little bit of that There's a little bit at this weekend Okay Yeah I mean This is how
[00:26:18] This is something that's been going on for a bit When it comes to Valley Dynamo You'd think they would be on top of this stuff Just saying For a $2,500 table Yeah you would think right But I don't know Tom Look I got a 20 24 year old Gray marble table
[00:26:42] That still plays fine So And that what you practice on? Every day bro Touch that thing every day Nice It's got It's got Merkel rods You can't bend these things I beat the hell out of this table And it's It's good I mean I don't need
[00:26:58] Look I'll practice on a Walmart table if I have to As long as I get to play this ball I don't care Dude Walmart's got a table Damn Yeah Yeah Oh yeah I love it man I love it I can't I can't stop
[00:27:11] Dude I can't wait for Mississippi Mississippi's gonna be good Yeah it sounds A good return Are you playing with Chris again? Yeah we're playing pro doubles And uh I'm pumped I'm playing open doubles with Dewey Oh Yeah I'm excited What about What about Louisiana State?
[00:27:29] Eddie are you gonna be at Louisiana State? Right in the middle of hunts season Yeah he's gonna be No kidding Ouch Will not go Ouch Man Yeah I used to be in like October And I could do it But I'm not doing it in November
[00:27:43] In November or December It's the first Saturday in December Yeah I'm not there I'm not gonna be able to make it either No chance Wow Yeah no No Wow You know But I'll tell you If you gave me a choice between Shooting something and playing foosball
[00:27:57] I'm probably gonna pick foosball So And that's where That's where we differ Look Ed I have never been I've never been or a duck hunting I see it Yeah I've never been I've never been duck hunting I've I've um I deer hunted my first year in Alabama
[00:28:12] I deer hunted And uh And I enjoyed it But it got It's peaceful Like yeah no Dude definitely sitting in the woods Just relaxing Waiting to murder something Oh No it was good No look I'm serious I couldn't wait to shoot something But dude there was one day
[00:28:29] I got up My father-in-law took me down to this They know this guy who's got a couple thousand acres And he lets us hunt it And I'm out in the middle of a soybean field And uh I checked the weather
[00:28:41] And it said it was gonna be like 50 degrees And like 50 degrees in Alabama sweet So I just wore some light camos And I froze my nuts off You know Like I'm not doing this ever again Get up at Get up at four in the morning
[00:28:53] And I'm sitting there like this Teeth clacking together And I told my father-in-law I got on the phone I said Hey Hey I said I'm ready to go He said man we just got here What do you think I said I'm freezing He said well that's your problem
[00:29:06] And then he hung up the phone Ooh So yeah Nah they Tom they take their huns serious down here I was gonna say I mean You're uh You're You're uh Born and bred in the great northeast It's cold here all the time And uh What happened
[00:29:20] You lost your Your thick blood Is that what happened Ah dude It's just a different cold man I was in the middle of a field With no cover in a tree stand And that wind was just cutting through me dude I Understood Uh uh Nope Listen
[00:29:36] I could tell you what My wife was nice in woman bed I would have rather been there So Yeah That was That was the last time I went hunting I was like I'm good No more No If I want meat I go to Publix and get some meat
[00:29:48] I'll be good I think What we need to do We need to talk to the folks at Louisiana State And say listen guys You need to have like a Part of the weekend where Where the hunters can go out And do their thing
[00:29:58] And then come back and play foosball Would that would that work for you Yeah right exactly Let's do it let's do it in like uh July August Well September They don't care Here's the thing You guys are boiling It's it's so hot during the summer months
[00:30:16] So you know it only goes without saying That you want to do your tournaments In the north around that time of the year And then you know during the The later months the winter months Colder months then Go south man And hang out there
[00:30:31] It only goes without saying I mean But it interferes with hunting Yeah well like for you You predominantly play tournaments in the south Like you don't you don't typically travel You know too far to play do you No I mean so I mean I've
[00:30:47] You know of course worlds and um Vegas we went the last three years Texas State here Mississippi State National when it was here We were actually gonna go to Denver this year for Nationals But then they moved it of course I don't play foosball for money
[00:31:07] But I don't usually go to these tournaments Like Illinois State or I do want to hit Maybe Wisconsin um Oh it's that's a good thing Something like that once or twice You know While I'm still in it I don't know how long
[00:31:24] You know we'll be out of travel and stuff My kids are getting over a certain So it's easier now but Sure Um Yeah I mean we don't I wouldn't mind going to I don't mind going anywhere I mean you can't play foosball for money right Unless you're
[00:31:37] Only one tournament you can make money in And that's worlds and that's if you went open so I mean I looked at the flyer today Worlds paid the same amount of money as Nationals And pro doubles Interesting Thousand bucks Thousand bucks Yeah yeah
[00:31:49] But every tournament over the last six months Has been paying a thousand bucks for pro expert amateur So what I mean what's the And then I know that hotel is just awful at worlds I just really dislike that hotel It's gotten better it's gotten better
[00:32:08] They made a big improvement in the ballroom It's it's it's a huge ballroom by the way Oh it's big yeah Yeah and they've been working on the rooms and stuff There's been some changes And there's also an awesome restaurant now on site
[00:32:20] Which they were it was there last year I think it was open Oh yeah It's been a couple years they've had for a couple years It's good food But you know I get you I get you You know the number of times I've been to Kentucky it's
[00:32:32] Well last time I was there I got COVID So But no I'm sorry the time before that That wasn't the last time It's actually we were there for the TKO as well So that was great That's free you get you get that free with every Oh that's true
[00:32:44] Every time you check in Complimentary Yeah But no Yeah now my my my wife wants to go She wants to go to worlds I said absolutely not She said why I said there's nothing to do there Nothing zero I said Well there's the bourbon trail We don't drink
[00:33:02] Oh that's right I forgot We don't we don't drink We don't drink So that's what I mean I told her I said we're gonna get there on Friday in the middle of the day And by Friday night you're gonna tell me you're bored
[00:33:11] I said I'm gonna lose my mind I said no Absolutely no You can't come No you can't come You can't come But no and like you said the plank Okay so now now that you're you're moving up the ranks You're winning events Right
[00:33:24] You know because a lot of lower ranked players are like oh we support the tour and And we should get money and You know how do you feel about the payouts legitimately Um I mean So first and foremost it's a business right
[00:33:42] And Mary's got to do it to make money And and and look I own my own businesses It doesn't bother me either way What she's making on any of this Um because I mean ultimately we you know
[00:33:56] Pause we throw a tournament in October here and you know Lafayette It's the first weekend in October October 4th through the 6th battle on the bayou And I can tell you last year we did it Yep so we're doing it again this year
[00:34:10] We had a hundred people show up Which was a good turnout for us Yeah that's great $7,500 tournament And we made about $60 And we worked our butts off for like two and a half weeks Right And it's like okay wait a minute like Mary's
[00:34:27] And I was at our house Mary's got to drive tables and personnel And so she's got to do it to make money right So the payouts um We got each 500 bucks or you know a thousand bucks for pro doubles
[00:34:43] Um I think that there's some instead of giving the Louisiana state winner in pro doubles a thousand bucks Okay let's keep a couple hundred bucks from each one of these tournaments and make the major tournaments bigger bigger yeah I mean
[00:35:03] Why is worlds pro doubles only a thousand when Louisiana state's going to be a thousand when uh Michigan Mississippi states a thousand or you know like what are we doing here? Yeah, it's a lot that doesn't make much sense to me Yeah it's a logical question
[00:35:19] Um I know were you familiar with of course the the ITSF when they came to town uh during Memorial Day weekend I mean yeah the the payouts were similar you know but uh it just seemed like there was more opportunity To make money Just you know
[00:35:38] Yeah, yeah, uh I mean look the the guys like the Brandon Munoz and the Terry Rouge and the Newly call peppers and the those you know the the masters those guys have a chance to make decent money throughout the year sure
[00:35:56] Worlds they can win 7,500 bucks a man. I mean if you go and win that Not bad. Yeah to me. That's worth it. I don't know what the ITSF paid out in The open division for doubles. Do y'all know what it was? It was around 7400 I think
[00:36:14] Something like that each are split that Think that might have been total 7400 for the year. I mean that that's a that's a pretty that's better than every tournament not named Worlds, you know Um, I mean the the the the pay is good
[00:36:31] I mean you got to understand like what it like i'm an expert so experts You can't expect to go to a tournament and make profit
[00:36:43] Playing through as well. Right if you're doing that, you're in the wrong. You're not doing it for the right reasons. Yeah. Yeah, you're in the wrong sport It's true. Yeah, it is um, I think we and we've had this discussion how many times now randy
[00:36:57] If there were uh major yeah major sponsors that said to the pros and pro masters Hey guys, we're gonna take care of all your your expenses You know, we're gonna take care of your hotel. We'll take care of your airfare
[00:37:12] We'll take care of your your meals and all you got to do is show up and play And whatever you win you win if you don't you don't And we're going to take care of all the other expenses
[00:37:22] So that way you have an opportunity to to really you know walk away And of course if you've got major sponsors sponsoring the players Then of course you've got an opportunity to put more money in the kitty I mean absolutely not not to mention. I mean
[00:37:39] Poo's balls are tougher to me a tougher sport to get a sponsor, right? But yeah All of these energy drink companies and I mean that somebody so it's it's it's a tax write-off You can't tell me that chevron would rather pay uncle sam
[00:37:58] 25 million in you know taxes versus if marries a if she can get a whatever the The elixir where they can use it as a tax write-off. Yep. Why wouldn't they give it to you? Right? Of course, there's got to be some type of options
[00:38:12] Well, you know, you're a guy who owns businesses. You have business savvy and business sense So you understand how it works, you know, and and this has been my thing for a long time even You know when I was a rookie player semi pro player expert player, whatever
[00:38:27] What's the incentive to move up? That's the biggest thing for me. Like I said, it's like you said pro doubles Thousand bucks great and look I'm I don't play foosball for the money. I play foosball because I love it. I want to compete. I want to win
[00:38:40] But expert doubles thousand bucks amateur doubles thousand bucks So it's like Why do I want to turn pro when I can just stay an amateur an expert and make the same money and again pros
[00:38:54] Like dude, you were an amateur, right? Now you're an expert. You pay more money You get to play less foosball once you turn pro you pay more money You play less foosball once you become a master
[00:39:03] If you ever make it to that level the highest level in foosball the most prestigious title You can earn in foosball besides being a world champion or a hall of famer is to be a master and you get
[00:39:14] Less play you pay more money. You have less chance to win money. So it's just like I said for me I just feel like the system's kind of upside down in that regard
[00:39:24] Yep, so and and when when certain promoters started letting masters play risk-free. I thought that was a great idea But at the same time, you know the
[00:39:36] Break even kind of look if I can break even I'm happy because I feel like I got to play a weekend of foosball for free Which is outstanding. Sure, but it doesn't doesn't happen often
[00:39:45] It doesn't you know, it doesn't happen often. It's it's uh, there are things being tried Of course experiments are being conducted, right? So that's all we yeah, that's all we can ask Yeah, quick question about championship format. Eddie, how do you feel about this championship format?
[00:40:01] So so this was my first time making the two a final in in that format. Um Second time bro, Mississippi you beat us in Mississippi. Oh, yeah, you're right. I'm sorry second time second time I'll say this I'll say this um
[00:40:19] It's cool. I've also equally gotten two thirds in the championship format where I've gotten on the roll and get the third That's like All right, I'm out. I want to play him again that beat me. Um So I
[00:40:37] I'm kind of mixed on it. I like it, but I don't like it um What I don't like about it is is you lose The best matches of the weekend uh, what year was it where? Tony and ryan went 10 games in the finals open singles at worlds maybe 21
[00:40:56] And they went to overtime in the fifth. It might have been 19 19 It might have been 19 for covid. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so so I mean like That may be the best the best match ever in a singles match that You would not have gotten to see that
[00:41:15] I mean the level of fuzball IQ and execution that went on in them last eight or nine games was Unmatched. Yeah. Yeah, like I mean like even in our pro doubles final at nationals
[00:41:31] Eight seven in the fifth who wouldn't want to watch that happen again. Oh my god. Yeah, it was exciting. Yeah I mean like like I mean we went to overtime against san and uh, hand and sully Like I didn't want to have to play them again
[00:41:45] Yeah, that was not a fun match You know like but if they make it back How good could that match me? That's true. Well, I know and not and not even one time it could be two times like that
[00:41:59] That's right. It's you with that. So yeah, man. Yeah I just I think that that they're missing out on some Good fuzball by doing it this way um, they equally I you know, I understand their concept because
[00:42:16] I don't like to get into the politics of this and the and the and the and the people arguing about this and that whatever it is What is the we can talk until we're blue in the face. Sure. Whatever mary and donald says what's going on
[00:42:28] What I think that they the reason that they are loving it is because It helps them get the hell out of there on sundays Yeah, I mean it sure is the weekend for sure that 100 percent now I think they're
[00:42:44] I think that the swiss format in my personal opinion would be a better option For The whole foot you can still like they want to be able to oh the tv crews can be here for the finals
[00:42:58] Well, I've yet to see that but well that you can still get that with swiss Yes, you can still get that with swiss easy you get to play a whole lot of foosball
[00:43:08] And you still have a chance to win a title right you can still lose two or three matches in the preliminary or seeding rounds and then Let's go. It's the same concept. Well, you know during the itf competition the world series in texas
[00:43:22] I mean not only was the stage set up beautiful But it was also an opportunity for other players to be there You know because they're they're out right they're there in the stands and there's a lot of seating for the stands
[00:43:36] And it was so intense to watch the finals of these matches because everybody's there and everybody's got a little skin in the game You know, uh, especially what absolutely they did the uh the competition between the countries
[00:43:48] That was really cool. And there was some there was some cheering going on in fact, um, Steve murray and I were sitting together and Steve's like come on. Let's make some noise. Come on. Let's do this
[00:43:59] So like wow, okay, you know, this is where it's this is where it's at man Um, it's again. It's an experiment and I think the itsf I don't if you've heard the the interview we did with uh with uh for reed
[00:44:12] But he's coming back. He's gonna do it again You know not sure about awesome the date yet, but he's coming back and his his his uh, his impression was Hey, this is something that's been a long time coming. We need to do it multiple times
[00:44:27] So are they gonna try to do it yearly? I think so it's gonna be an annual world series Because they're doing world series in in all the different countries in europe So I think uh america is now getting part of that that uh that that organization. So
[00:44:41] Very cool. Awesome But yeah, it's it's now here's a question for you Um when it comes to being in the moment and you guys went down a final ball I mean that's just that intense
[00:44:53] How did you maintain your focus and if people were cheering with that affected what you were doing? Um I told randy like randy came run up to me as soon as we won and whatnot and and like I wasn't such in just
[00:45:10] I was like lost like he was I couldn't like I watched the video back and randy was talking to me And I was just like staring through him because I was so focused on Not messing up that uh
[00:45:24] I don't hear anything. I'll play a lot of golf too, right? So like I'm pretty good golfer so like people can talk and like I'm when I'm focused on it Like I don't even hear anything
[00:45:33] So the cheering was cool after the points and you kind of back out of the focus a little bit because you you know Would not you'd hear that it would be cool or tight during timeouts, but um man
[00:45:45] I don't know. I just was so focused on I mean me and joel had even talked that At one point in the match he was like listen if you hit a wall pass
[00:45:53] Evan's gonna hit the ball to my five bar and it is a it's I got a possession At one point. I was just like Hit it says five bar. Yeah, try to hit a wall pass and if he's not there
[00:46:05] Cool, it's gonna go to his three rod. Mm-hmm. You know if it is there Then it's gonna bounce off his band and we got a possession on the five um
[00:46:14] I just was trying not to screw up really ultimately like okay. Don't do anything stupid to lose the match Um, which is why you didn't see me shoot a whole bunch of times I think I made one push shot and one little spray pull shot
[00:46:27] Um, but I just was equally I was just trying to get the ball To him for you know, he's just was he was just playing so good and I mean Rainy could tell you when he get it on the three rod it was
[00:46:40] I think he shot like 70 in the final They were doing the stats on it and it was it was pretty close to 70. I think 68 70. Yep. I mean just for the whole thing I just astounding
[00:46:51] I mean, I would have been an idiot to try to do anything other than Get him the ball. Yeah, you know, I mean, that's good foosball. That's just smart. Yeah Yeah, his I'm just glad that that's all my recognized that it didn't do anything stupid
[00:47:05] Yeah, no, no it was it was clean play man. You cleared the ball really really well And and said key blocks as well When it came to now evan evans no slouch. I mean he's he's a great player You know, he's got a really solid three row
[00:47:20] But you were there you were there in the moments that you needed to be there So wow now he uh, he beat me in the um Last year at texas state uh expert singles final and he beat me pretty bad
[00:47:37] Like kind of embarrassed me a little bit on table one over there in texas state and uh, well I learned a little bit about you know, not what he does in general because of course people evolve and change and kind of
[00:47:48] The good ones will react to what you're doing that day or whatnot. But uh, that was kind of the The moment that I was like, all right I played so high strung and so out of out of my element and like just rushed everything and and uh I
[00:48:05] Secretly, I haven't played a lot of goalie ever. So this was like the first big moment. I've ever had playing goalie I mean, I'll be you know, we beat randy and them in that little mississippi deal
[00:48:15] But that was really the first time I ever played goalie in any Final or anything ever. So this is really the second tournament. I've played predominantly where i'm gonna play goalie And i've got a forward
[00:48:28] Huh interesting because it seemed like that was a natural place for you to be Played it well. Yeah, really. Yeah, some people some people just approach playing goalie Like some people just naturally, you know, they get back there and they don't really feel any pressure
[00:48:43] You know, it's just yeah They just go back there relax get blocks clear the ball and it just comes kind of naturally to them So, you know, you I mean dude, you've been playing good goal. You played good goal in mississippi
[00:48:54] You you obviously you played good goal at nationals. So you know and look good goalies are hard to come by So we made a joke me and about him. I made a joke the other day. I was like, man, I'm maybe a goalie bro. You better watch out
[00:49:08] Worst things can happen, you know, I'm yeah Look good goalies are hard to find dude. They are. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is This is this is where this is where I dwell in the pit. This is where I this is where I love it back there
[00:49:23] I just to me. It's just that's that's that's foosball there, you know It is a lot less stressful. I'll say that. Yeah. Oh, yeah If you can get back there and just minimize the stupid, you know
[00:49:36] Just got a couple blocks clear the ball keep the slop out control the tempo Yeah, just, you know, feed your forward. Yeah. I look I love playing goalie I want to play goalie all the time. Chris won't let me you get Yeah I mean, it's it's uh
[00:49:54] It's just it's a different mindset when you're back there. So, you know, but as a forward It's like you sometimes you just put pressure on yourself like I need to pass. I need to score We're behind. I got to catch up fast
[00:50:06] Let me and those are the times when you have to just obviously slow down take more time But when you're in the moment, you know recognizing that as as spectators we watch and go Why is he why is he rushing? Why is he doing why?
[00:50:19] Well, because when you're in the moment the adrenaline's flowing like dude that final, you know Anybody from the outside watching can be like like yeah, these guys are they're feeling it. They're in it
[00:50:29] You know, because it's it's just you know, adrenaline nerves the whole nine yards really close Yeah, eight seven game five. Yeah, that's a nail biter all day crazy. It was it was great When that ball fell in I almost fell on the floor
[00:50:47] It was like, oh, I mean, you know the mass before that again You know Hannah and sully and we went to overtime then and and we were actually Hannah sully had a shot to beat us
[00:50:59] And you know, luckily got a block whatever we got one up the table We scored stole a ball scored and it was like we were on the other end of that deal. Um but but man it was just uh
[00:51:12] It was too much too back too too too much is back to back over time was a lot Real grainy a lot of energy to expend. Um, so so as a goalie
[00:51:23] Now that you have the perspective, what would you rather block a push a pull or a rollover? I don't ever want to block that push again. I can assure you I knew you're gonna see that I knew you'd say that
[00:51:37] I'd rather block a rollover really. I mean ultimately, um Pull shot defense is difficult. I'm learning a little more every time somebody kills me with one. Um, but
[00:51:49] I fall into a trap where I'll do this and then oh stop for a second and then it's like bam and I was like, oh Yeah, that was terrible defense You know to me I just get out of position more
[00:52:01] shoot blocking a pull shot versus a rollover because It's easier to get back in the position. I would think when I'm blocking a rollover because
[00:52:10] Oh over there. Okay, I'm back, you know before on a pull shot if you get out of position and you leave a straight open I mean, you're done. Yeah You know But I'd rather block a rollover for sure. I'm with you on that one. I totally agree
[00:52:26] Totally agree. Yeah, it's uh, it's it's kind of like if you learn to dance around the hole Uh, so they can't see it Then it's then it's much more difficult for a for a pull a rollover To get through and make the back of the goal
[00:52:40] That's a lot of fun. A lot of fun. Absolutely So, okay now you've had perspective when it comes to you of course brandon you play on a daily basis Now of course you play with his brother joel Who's got the better game joel or brandon?
[00:52:56] I don't answer that You can have and you can ask brandon mullius that question and he will say his brother every time really I Mean the brandon's the flat so I got to be careful with brandon and everybody has to be careful with brandon say
[00:53:12] If you get advice from brandon, he is so far physically Above you. Yep physical ability. He's like, oh just do this and it's like I bro. I can't do that
[00:53:25] My arm doesn't do that. You know what I mean? Um, I mean, you know brandon's so fast and and and He's His execution rate is so high. Um joel's five bars Disgusting. Yeah, now it's smooth man. Thanks sweet. I mean, it's just disgusting
[00:53:46] His brush series is his brush up is I mean, I want to pass on everybody I mean nobody could block it evan actually blocked him the best in my eyes on the five bar That was the whole weekend. There was a time. Um, there was a time. Yep
[00:53:59] But I mean, I say they're equal but but you know one does one I see I think but joel's five bar may be a little bit better than brandon's but brandon's all around It's just They're both so good man. They're hard. They're hard to stop. Yeah
[00:54:16] Genetically speaking, they got some kind of advantage. They're just amazing players Man, that's and then I you know, I watched them warm up against each other and it's like Do y'all been playing football against each other for
[00:54:29] 30 years how for 25 years or whatever? How are you still letting him hit that on you? What are we doing here We are yeah, I mean and the thing is too This happened. I think it was 2021 Uh at worlds You know, we saw brandon, of course kevin romero
[00:54:53] And and quite a few other players from other places other places other than america Just come in and just dominate some of the events. Just just kill it, you know
[00:55:03] Um to me, I think that's like, uh, it's good and it's bad because it's a it's a wake-up call to american players to say Uh-oh The rest of the world is getting into this tornado thing. We better we get a better get our
[00:55:17] If you're pardon the expression get our shit together here And uh, you know because it's common And brandon and no noel of course are great examples of that As well as this young kid at the itsf world series
[00:55:33] Stefan from austria 17 years of age and he beats ryan moore And antony spray to me back back back to back I kids at by I asked brandon that question. I was like how good is that kid? He was like He's like he's unbelievable. He can't stop it. Yeah
[00:55:51] Yeah, unbelievable, but didn't he shoot didn't he shoot a pull shot in the front? Oh, he did both pull in and roll over both Yeah, oh yeah, and and and he's he whipped out some push kicks on the fly and his two rod is nasty
[00:56:04] He just you dude. He's 17 man steady as a rock He won I think he was like 14 when he won his garlanda worlds Uh, you know the kid think about it eddie like 17 no financial responsibility You just get to play foosball. You got a 17 year old arm
[00:56:26] And body and legs right? It's the legs for me. Yeah, he looks 12 watching. Yeah. He looks like a baby. Yeah, I mean, but you know, he's He's turning into a young man now kind of you know, kind of like like sam
[00:56:40] Right like sam sam's going on rushing the ball But i've been watching a bunch of video on this kid and he's he's no joke man. He's the real deal It could be you know, the the latter day fradrico colin yon
[00:56:54] He could be the next guy. You know could It's but again, that's another thing pros and cons of being 17 You know, he could meet a girl we could never see him again. So Well, there's always that
[00:57:08] Yeah, yeah, it's it's an interfered with many a foosball career. No doubt Yeah, just hope that the uh, the the the urge to play is greater than the urge to you know what but yeah
[00:57:21] Absolutely. No dude. I'll leave my wife right now if she tells me I can't play Anyway, hey ed again, dude. Look man super proud of you. Congratulations. That's a huge title I'm gonna appreciate it a couple weeks at mississippi
[00:57:39] Yes, sir. Thanks for carving out some time to come on man. Yeah, yes, sir So yeah, thank you guys. I appreciate it. Oh not at all It's uh, if we could possibly get you off out of the hunting thing and and show up for uh, you know
[00:57:53] Louisiana state would be so cool, but I know I don't get it He doesn't Have a time I won't be there for that. All right. All right. Well, there's always 2025 and
[00:58:06] Looking forward to being in the same room get a chance to see you play live and do some hanging out for sure Yes, sir. But uh, wow really appreciate you taking the time It's um, it's great to hear that not only can you be a successful business person
[00:58:19] But also very successful foosball player, you know focusing on other things but uh, we're so happy to have you By the way, anytime you want to come back and hang out We're totally cool with that
[00:58:31] Awesome. I appreciate it guys. You bet. Yeah, man. Absolutely. Thank you, bro. You need anything just shout out, bro I'm here. Yes, sir. We'll do I'll see y'all in a few weeks. Oh, absolutely So once it, hey, yeah, sorry time real quick august 10th don carlos over massachusetts

[00:58:59] He's he did some amazing work there at uh, you know at don carlos He's done some really great organization and of course he's got the the uh, the other place the foosball hub Which i'm looking forward to seeing sometime soon. Yes, sir
[00:59:12] Yeah, so some great foosball coming up this summer uh more details on that in just a second Once you get a shout out to j teal of 3d foos
[00:59:19] Thanks for the shirts, dude. We're what did j teal tell you to tell me? Oh, I'm glad you reminded me Uh, he said no, no, no, don't uh, don't trash talk j Don't don't trash talk him because
[00:59:32] He knows he got beat but but he said uh, there were some money matches afterwards There was okay. We had a few beverages and um, uh, and and j was talking a lot of trash and me and eric bowkos
[00:59:46] Took him took all their money that night. So it was a good one. Did you yeah, I tried to tell him not to do it I told him I was like, I'll take every dollar you got buddy, but
