Hey, we're live on Foos Talk Live yet again for episode number 239. Hey there, it's Tom Robinson. And looking forward to this coming week. It's the big one.
[00:02:54] It's the World Foosball Tour, the WFT. And their very first event with the TKO, the Tour Kickoff, in Lexington, Kentucky at the Clarion Hotel. It's going to be huge. And so far we understand there could be as many as 400 players already set to go. And, of course, if we're going to talk about this topic tonight, talk about foosball in general, it's always great when you have somebody else who loves foosball to talk to, which would be my partner Randy Raposo.
[00:03:23] Hello, Randy. What's up, dude? Hey, Tom. How are you? Hey, man. It's a chilly night here in upstate New York. What about Alabama? What say you when it comes to the weather? It's been awful. But today hit 55. 55? Next week is going to be like, yeah, next week is going to be in the 60, which is crazy because this past week we were in single digits. And South Alabama got some snow. I heard the panhandle got hit with like eight inches of snow. Yeah.
[00:03:52] So it's been rough. It's been rough. You know, it's been – I mean, I feel like I haven't talked to you in a few weeks. Yes, it's true. I mean – Yeah, I've been busy at work. Yeah. But I'm glad. I'm glad we can do this. The weather's kept you out of circulation, so to speak. Yeah, busy. Yeah, we totally get it, man. You've got to do your gig. Yeah. Got to do your gig. Take care of business. Yeah, but kickoff's coming, dude. That's my gig. I'm ready. Oh, yeah.
[00:04:19] Yeah, I don't know if you caught any of the conversation we had last week with Donald Wilson. He told us all about what it's like with the ice and the chickens and the ducks and stuff. He gave us a lowdown as to what it's like to deal with cold weather in Mississippi. But, hey, you know, he did give us a lot of insight as to what's happening. He did say a few things that he thought he shouldn't say, so he didn't say it, if you get my drift. Okay.
[00:04:48] It's like, yeah, sure. I want to tell you something, but, well, I can't. I should. I can't do that. But I, okay. So, yeah. Yeah, I don't know if you had a chance to listen to the episode or whatever, but. I caught bits and pieces of it while I was in the truck, but I haven't finished it, so. He's in rare form, but it was great to get together with Donald. And, yeah, he does a pretty fair job of teasing the audience about stuff like that. So, we were happy to have Donald.
[00:05:18] So, tonight I think what we need to do, though, is really focus on what's happening. You know, I mean, it's huge. This whole idea with the TKO. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And there's some, a few, I should say, omissions, obvious omissions that are also taking place, but that's fine. Yeah. So, I thought what we could do is we'll run down the list of, first, the women's open doubles pairings, which we know about.
[00:05:48] Uh-huh. And then we'll run down the list of the open doubles pairings, the doubles teams, because these are the things that I think most people would, you know, take side bets on or try to figure out who is going to be triumphant. It ain't going to be easy, I can tell you that. Ooh. Nothing's obvious. No, and so I believe Brandon Moreland actually has some type of a wager system thing happening on Facebook. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
[00:06:17] So, and he's got, I think he's got a couple of players omitted, key players, but that's okay. Okay. Uh, so before we start talking about the teams, I've heard that, um, you know, the kickoff is typically just a, you know, a, a, like a medium to large size state tournament type of deal. And, you know, the clarion, everybody knows the clarion. If you've been there for the kickoff and you've been there for worlds, you see the difference in the setup. Oh, sure.
[00:06:47] Ryan, Ryan has got the whole, he's got the whole room. So we've got the world set up for the kickoff. Wow. That's great. Yeah. He got, he got an extra 1200 square feet. So we're going to have, yeah, we're going to have everything. And then, um, he said he, he, he got 50 new tables and, uh, he said, I think he said his mom had like 13 lying around. So he said there's going to be 63 tables at this tournament. He's expecting a large turnout. Wow.
[00:07:16] So if you're, if you're, I mean, I know we're like four or five days out. If you're on the fence, dude, you better jump, jump over that fence. Time to go running towards Lexington. So time to go. It's going to be good. You're not going to want to miss this one. Yeah. This is, uh, Tom, you know, as Donald was saying last week and I agree 100%. He said, you know, this is the beginning, the very first start for the world foosball tour.
[00:07:40] There'll be a second, a third, a fourth, a fifth and whatever, but there's never going to be another first. No world. Yeah. Correct. We're turning a corner in foosball, right? This, this is going to be a historic event. Uh, 20 years from now, we're going to be talking about this tournament. Yep. So, uh, this, you're going to want to be there. I'm going to be there. If you're not there, I'm not talking to you, Tom. I'm talking to the listeners. If you're not there, I'm sorry. I feel bad for you.
[00:08:09] You can ask me about it and I'll tell you how it was. Oh yeah. Yeah. I'm going to be there. Well, I'm going to be there. I know you're going to be there, Tom. We're going to have a good time. And we are going to be, uh, there with bells on. Uh, we're going to have everything going. We'll have the whole setup. Uh, and I think that, uh, when, when people arrive, they'll, they'll be able to see the media, you know, the media, uh, modern foos is there. We'll be there. Uh, we'll be talking to people all weekend long. Uh, we're going to try and try and nail down as many people as we can just to have conversations.
[00:08:39] If not live, then record them or whatever the case, but we, we're there for that purpose. In fact, so far, I'm only in one event for the weekend. Uh, I'm going to play pro doubles with, uh, rich, uh, rich, uh, rich. Robichon, but, um, okay. That's, uh, that's all I got planned so far. I mean, I might do experts. I might do, um, amateurs, but that's, that would be pretty much it for the weekend. I want to focus on what we do, uh, with foos talk live and foosball radio. So yeah. Nice.
[00:09:07] Well, and I'm, and I'm going to be telling people, you know, as I'm going through the room, uh, you know, uh, I'm going to be asking players that I feel are going to be, uh, high quality, uh, interviews if they want to sit down for a few minutes. So, you know, um, um, we're going to just try to see if we can line this thing up and, and just get some good content. I think it's going to be a, uh, a blast and we're, it's going to be tough to cover everybody, but we'll, we'll do the dams. We'll do the, we'll do our best to do that for sure. Absolutely. Absolutely.
[00:09:36] And, and I, I will certainly, I can't guarantee it, but I probably will not have laryngitis. Just saying. Probably. Don't jinx yourself, dude. I'm, I'm putting my head cold behind me. I just had it the other day. So now it's, uh, it's behind me so that we're, we can, we can, uh, rest assured I'll be fine. But. Okay. Well, let's, uh, let's talk about some ladies. Let's talk about some ladies doubles teams. Yeah. Yeah. So the women's lineup, I got to say, this is some of the best I've seen in a while. Solid.
[00:10:06] And really difficult to tell who could really dominate here. But, um, first of all, you start off with Keisha Roo and Liz Hillmore. Now there's a, there's a combination. Those, those two ladies have more experience on the table than I would say almost any of the, uh, the, the pairings that are, that are listed here. So, okay. Um, Keisha, solid goalie, great to Rod.
[00:10:37] Um, Liz. So hall of famer, multi, multi, multi time world champ, women's doubles, open mix, women's singles. Um, I, you know, there are lady foosers out there that, um, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm friends with everybody, Tom. Sure. There are lady foosers out there that I, I really, I enjoy their game. I enjoy what was Hill is, uh, she's a top three lady foosers for me.
[00:11:06] She's one of my absolute favorites. Um, that's a threat. So every team you're going to name, I feel is going to be in the mix. Uh, but that's, that's, that's a team, uh, that is a threat. Oh, um, no question. Uh, I think, um, I've seen Liz, um, I've seen Liz play in some high pressure situations and dominate, you know? Yeah, that's good. That's going to be like a two, a two or three seed team right there. Yep. So, uh, that, that's going to be, that's going to be a tough, that's going to be a
[00:11:36] tough team for, uh, for open doubles. So, okay. Who else are we looking at? So women's open doubles continues with Cindy head and Shelly Langley. Cindy who's Cindy head. I've never heard of her. Okay. So, so again, a couple, a couple of lady foosers that, so obviously Cindy had the most decorated foosball player, not lady fooser, foosball player of all time. Um, Shelly Langley, a master lady player out of Colorado. Yeah.
[00:12:06] Uh, again, that's, that's going to be, that's a top four seed team right there. Uh, obviously a threat to win a threat to win. And, and, uh, you know, if you find them in the finals, you know, you've got to be surprised. Yeah, right. Exactly. And they're not going to, they're not going to just give in. That's for sure. Yeah. Uh, yeah, baby. Come on. You're going to hear that. You're going to hear Cindy. So lots of vocalisms. That's that's, and that's the thing. Just to pause briefly here.
[00:12:32] Uh, one of the things I think Ryan is really going to stress is that he wants people to get crazy. Just, you know, yeah, not necessarily to interfere with the game, but to, to really cheer people on, to really be in the stands and be a fan, be there. Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, yeah. And, and, uh, I'm going to be doing my best to motivate people to do that next weekend. Nice. And you'll see, you'll find out why. So it's going to be, I'm excited.
[00:13:01] I'm excited for the kickoff for more reasons than one, but okay. All right. Two solid, two solid master lady teams. Oh, and it continues. It continues. Now we're talking Maya Balcos and Jessica Sennfelben. Okay. So Jessica, uh, current, current, uh, ladies, open doubles champ, part of the pairing, uh, multi-time world champ, singles and doubles, uh, very, uh, experienced lady player playing
[00:13:29] with an up and coming rising star. A fierce competitor. Maya Balcos is fierce. She's, she's got the same DNA as her brother and her, and her dad. You know, that's saying, wow, go get it and, uh, and, and go full bore. You know, so the F the field is not thinning at all. Okay. That's, that's another tough team. None of these teams. If we saw any of these teams in the finals, no one would be surprised. Right. Exactly. So, okay.
[00:13:55] And that continues next is I, I vet a more and, uh, Isabel Steli. Okay. Uh, so this is the team that's been, they were in the finals in Dallas. Oh, one of the best, one of the best matches I've seen in a long time. We have. They took on, uh, uh, Mylon Tran. And, uh, Katarina Sableski. Yes. Is that her name? Sableski. I don't want to jack her name up. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:14:22] But that, that was, that was a phenomenal match. Incredible. And then again, finals at worlds. I feel like that's a team that's due. If I'm just being honest. Um, yeah, there's a lot of switchability. Uh, they're both good in either position. Um, obviously, um, Iveta, uh, married to Ryan and Isabel, uh, you know, up and coming
[00:14:49] and, and spends a lot of time with Brandon Munoz. So they're exposed to a lot of high level play. Uh, again, another, another very good team. It's, uh, I, I tell you if I was a wagerer, if I, if I actually gambled, um, I don't know. I think, you know, even if, if, uh, these guys were, were, um, rated or seated maybe three or four, I'd still put my money on them. I'd still, cause they're just so tough. So tough. That's not, that's, that's not, that's not a bad bet. Yeah.
[00:15:18] That's not, yeah, that's not a bad bet there. And they're probably, uh, they're going to be like, uh, probably a five, six, seven seed. If we're looking at the whole field, they're going to be, uh, four or five, six. Yeah. Somewhere in there. Uh, okay. Who else are we looking at? Well, it continues. Dusty Bambineck and Judy Schober. Okay.
[00:15:42] So, so Dusty, obviously, uh, she is, uh, a master lady, a pro in men's points. She is, uh, as far as experience goes, she's up there at the top with the rest of them. Oh yeah. Uh, oh yeah. She is a golden key recipient. One of the only on tour. Exactly. Uh, Judy, I think Miss Judy's a pro now in women's points. She has, she has risen in the ranks very quickly. Yep. She's done great. Uh, she's also one of our favorite Patreons.
[00:16:11] A hundred percent. And, uh, man, there there's another really fierce team. I think, um, we've seen, you know, we've seen Dusty in some really tight spots and she's just triumphant. Oh, she's, she's solid as a rock, man. She's consistent. Again, that's another, that's another master pro combo. That's going to be right there in the five, six, seven seed area. Um, you know, Miss Judy's been playing a bunch. I love seeing Miss Judy. She's always so sweet. Oh yeah.
[00:16:39] Um, and, uh, obviously Dusty, she, you know, the same there, there, that's, that's a, that's a nice team. Oh, they're, they're great people. And they're just a sweet team. Yep. Really, really, uh, really. Fierce competitors. Oh, no doubt. No doubt about it. Okay. Well, okay. So we have to round this out. Um, and this kind of is, I guess you could say the, the, uh, the topping on the Sunday, so to speak, but it's, um, Sullivan Rue and Hannah Smith, Dr. Hannah Smith.
[00:17:08] Um, you know, they, uh, the both of them, you know, just fierce competitors and Sullivan Rue, you know, she is not to be, not to be messed with. I mean, plain and simple. She's one of the toughest lady players out there right now. So that's the one, that's the one and two, uh, the top two lady players, uh, in the WFT ranking system. Hannah, Hannah had a good year last year. Hannah had a really good year. She was on a tear.
[00:17:38] I feel like Sullivan, um, is, uh, I, I, I feel like she's really motivated this year. Um, I'm really excited to see, uh, this play out. If I'm being honest, Tom, I'm not, I'm, I, you know, I don't gamble. I'm not really a, uh, uh, gambling man. Um, I'm not, I wouldn't put a wager on this field. It would be really tough. I mean, granted, I'll grant you this.
[00:18:07] Uh, you know, Sullivan, when you think about that, she won her first open doubles, uh, event last year. Um, and I've forgotten what it, where was it? Oklahoma or Ohio, Ohio state. That's right. That's right. So that that's, uh, that's telling, you know, kind of foreshadowing of what's to come. Yeah. But I mean, look, but yeah, that's huge, but I'm a dude. She's look, she's been knocking on the door of open doubles for a while.
[00:18:37] Yep. She's, she's gotten second in Mississippi. She's gotten, uh, I mean, she's had some top three finishes in open doubles. And besides that, she's always deep in pro doubles. She's always, uh, I mean, she's, she's right there that she's as far as competitors go, not even male or female, just competitors. She is, uh, she's just a really good foosball player. She's super competitive. Hannah's the same way. I mean, Hannah's Hannah's a 4,000 point doubles player.
[00:19:06] She's, she's, she's solid. Yeah. You can put her in the front. You can put her in the back. She's competitive. She's not afraid to play anybody. That's just a tough team. That's it. I mean, that's, that's a tough team. Like I said, that's a tough team for open doubles. So, um, that lady field. Hmm. I mean, uh, I'm just saying I would, I wouldn't want to go through that gauntlet. No, personally, not at all. Not at all. Uh, I think I mentioned to you last year when, uh, when Mark, uh, Marshall, that and I were
[00:19:33] playing our very first event in the open for the, the, uh, tornado worlds, man, we met up against Sullivan and Isabel Stelly and it just, you know, what a great way to start the day. I mean, it was, it was a lot of fun to play those guys. And we thought at first we might have a chance, but then they dashed our hopes pretty quickly. You know? I mean, I mean, at least you got to look at them. They're pretty. I know. There's that.
[00:19:59] Um, but yeah, it, it's, uh, just as soon as Sullivan, I guess you'd say she, she, uh, sort of turned up the wick and then suddenly it was, there was no contest. Yeah. She, she did a few adjustments, figured this out. And that was the end of that. So what are you going to do? That's a good, well, so, okay. So that's the, that's, that's the lady field that we know of. Yep.
[00:20:24] Um, again, there, there might be some international competitors coming is Linda Lai coming or Linda Lee. I don't, I don't want to, um, Linda Lee is possible. I think there's going to be some Canadians, no doubt. So again, this field is only going to get thicker, Tom. I'm excited to see this play out. Like I said, I'm not a gambling man. Uh, any one of those teams you named, uh, could, can win this event, especially with the championship format. Right. Oh yeah.
[00:20:53] It's, it's anything that's possible. So, uh, this is going to be exciting for everybody listening. Um, you know, again, you're, you're going to want to be there to watch this event. And of course, with, with Ryan, uh, you know, being the showman that he is, he's going to make a spectacle of this final. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Big time. It's going to be, it's going to be great. It's going to be a huge event. Uh, we're looking forward to all of that. Of course, you know, we, we'll be lucky if we can talk to at least two or three of these pairs, uh, you know, on, on, uh, Mike, just to see what they're up to and, and, uh, get their philosophy on this.
[00:21:23] That'll be a lot of, lots of fun right there. Yeah. Okay. Open doubles. Um, this is, this is deep, man. This is serious, seriously deep. Okay. So we finished with Sullivan and Hannah in the, uh, the women's doubles, but we're going to start open doubles with Sullivan and Isabel. So Sullivan Rue, Isabel Steli as a team in open doubles. We know they can, they can make some serious headway and some serious damage. Current Ohio, was it Ohio or Illinois?
[00:21:53] I forgot. It might've been, no, it was Illinois. Cause Ohio state Ryan and Steve Biney won. It was Illinois state. That's what it was. Excuse me. I'm sorry, ladies. Sure. It was Illinois state. They beat, uh, Michael Stahl. And I believe it was Frank Kronkowski. Right. I believed, but it was Illinois. It was, it was not Ohio. I apologize. But again, this is a, this is an open double winning team. Oh yeah.
[00:22:19] Um, I believe they were the only team to peel a game off of Ryan and Tommy at worlds. No kidding. Uh, I believe that this is not a slouch team for open doubles. Yeah. You've got to, you've got to have your, your head on straight. For, for, for going to take these people on for sure. And Isabel, I believe just got her pro points in men's men's points. Nice. So yeah, that's a, I think they're somewhere around seven. They're over 7,000 points. I believe as a seed. No doubt. So yeah. Yeah.
[00:22:49] Yeah. That's a, that's a strong team. Very, very strong team. Well, uh, next in line of course is another Rue. Uh, uh, uh, well Sullivan's dad, Terry, Terry and his partner, Paul Smith. Okay. Um, but you know, Paul Smith, I've watched him play. He is extraordinary. He's an amazing player, but he's so serious. Yes. You ever notice? He never cracks a smile. He is.
[00:23:16] He's, he's like, you know, he wants, he wants to kill people. You know, that's what he looks like. Ah, yeah. Well, you know, uh, he's competitive and that's okay. Dude. Again, you get to know the guy. He's I love Paul. He's a good dude. Okay. Paul's demeanor is it's just who he is. That's how he is. Uh, he's, you know, he's a pretty stoic guy and he doesn't really, he doesn't show a lot of emotion. Right.
[00:23:41] That's just his, uh, that's just, that's, you know, that's how he is and who he is. But as far as his level of play, I mean, he is, uh, I think he's top 10 and doubles. Really? Uh, I think, yeah, I think in the WFT point system, he's top 10 and doubles. I might be like seven or eight or something, somewhere up there, but he's, uh, I mean, he's true master. The guy's legit. I know he's, he's got, he's got one major open title. He won.
[00:24:10] I think you want to open mix at nationals one year. And actually, if I remember correctly, him and Sullivan won open mix at the kickoff last year. Okay. I believe that sounds familiar. Uh, so this is a threat team, obviously Terry Rue, uh, you know, Terry in, so Terry and the WFT points, I think he's combined like top five, four or something like that. I mean, Terry, Terry Rue is, uh, one of my favorite players in the world. One of my favorite people. Yeah.
[00:24:40] He's just a great person. Um, you know, there's, there's early on, you know, uh, when you first meet the guy and you think, oh my goodness, here's a pro master who has been, you know, he's been all over the place and he's, uh, he's got this, um, Royal family of foosball players. And yet he's the most down to earth person I think I've ever spoken to at a tournament. Oh yeah. You know? Oh yeah. Yeah. Dude, the guy, the guy, the guy is, uh, just top notch, man. Yep.
[00:25:11] He's just, I love that dude. He's awesome. But as far as foosball, he's one of my favorite people to watch. Cause what he can do on a table is amazing. I know. So, uh, so that, and he can do it at any time from any part of the table. So that, that team, that team, um, you know, Paul, Paul uses more of a stick series, shoots a rollover. Terry's five is, is a little bit different. Uh, uses more of a tic-tac weave, shoots a pull shot, both solid goalies, both great two rods, a lot of switchability. That's a tough team. Very good.
[00:25:41] That's a top. I think that's like a top four seed team right there. No doubt. No doubt. That's a tough team. Yep. Well, let's continue with this one. Um, well, we, we have to talk about last year's Cinderella story. Okay. For open singles at, uh, the, the, the tornado worlds, another than Trevor park, you know, walking away with that one and just stunning the world, you know, with his performance. And he's now done the right thing. And he's teamed up with Jacob Balkos.
[00:26:11] That's the right thing. I thought you were going to say, I thought you were going to say he was playing with me. That'd be the right thing. So Jake, Jacob Balkos, uh, newest master. Congratulations, Jacob. Yep. Mm-hmm. Uh, just one open doubles at Louisiana state coming off a big win last tour stop of the year. Mary's final tournament. There you go. Uh, Jacob. Um, so I think this is a team, uh, that again, any one of these teams, a threat. This is the thing about Jacob and Trevor.
[00:26:41] If you know, Jacob's like a sponge and Trevor is just a, he is so knowledgeable. Yeah. Um, if he can coach Jacob through an event like this, I mean, that's a team that can, can you imagine? We could see them in the finals legitimately. Trevor, uh, has been in so many finals. He's won so many big events, has so much experience, great goalie. Uh, just very composed, super, super smart guy. Yeah. Um, doesn't really make a lot of, he just, he doesn't make mistakes.
[00:27:10] He, he makes good decisions and then the switch ability is five, his role. I mean, that's, um, you know, a young guy like Jacob, who's just, uh, you know, just a lot of gas. No, not really breaks. And Jacob's a smart kid. Uh, I've played Jacob a lot of times. He's really, really tough. Um, I think I, again, that's, uh, so as far as master teams go, I think we're going to have maybe five or six, I think full master teams.
[00:27:40] So that's probably going to be, uh, one of the bottom master C teams, I think. Okay. Just because Jacob, Jacob just crossed over. Uh, I, they'll probably be like a four or five or six. So he has, he has more to prove in this situation than, than most of the other competitors because he's now a new pro master. So he has to start to make inroads, you know, make, make his, uh, make his mark. I don't know. Yeah.
[00:28:05] I don't, I mean, I don't, I wouldn't say that he's got, I wouldn't say he's got more to prove. I think, um, maybe there's a little bit of pressure on him now because he is a master and, and he wants to kind of, um, what's the word I'm looking for, Tom? Like he wants to solidify his status as a master. He wants to settle into the role. Yeah. It would, you know, you would. And, and this is the thing, Jacob, Jacob went from beginner to master and like less than four years.
[00:28:34] Like no time at all. Yeah. Skyrocketed, but he's been playing a lot of foosball. I don't think he's not intimidated by, uh, by this at all. I think he's just going to come out and play foosball. That's what he does. So, um, you know, I don't think he's going to come out and have a bad event. I don't think he's going to come out and not play well. I think he's just going to come out and do what he does. Uh, it's just a matter of, you know, are his opponents going to outplay him? Yeah. That's really what it comes down to.
[00:29:01] So, um, that I think, um, uh, you know, that's any of these teams that you name are contenders legitimately. Uh, but a few of these teams are just, they're going to be standout teams. Uh, they're going to be teams that, uh, if any of these lower seat teams are going to get there, they're going to have to get through these teams. So, uh, and that's, that's, you know, they call them gatekeepers, singles, doubled, like keepers. Yeah. I like that. Yeah. I wouldn't, I wouldn't say that Trevor and Jacob are a gatekeeper team.
[00:29:31] Um, but, um, uh, uh, uh, a pro team or a master pro team is going to have to get through them legitimately to get to, to get to fifth. So we'll see. We'll see. That's, that's a tough team. That's a tough team. There again, you know, we're just going to continue to stir the pot here because there's so much more yet to come in this, this, uh, this list.
[00:29:56] Um, next is, uh, Cody Byrie and, uh, his partner, as we know, Sam Dijon, our, uh, home favorite up and coming. So they, this is a team that's played together a few times and, uh, they're pretty proven. They've beaten some, uh, some really tough teams. Um, the switch abilities there. Yes. Uh, uh, you know, Cody solid, good five, good shot. Um, you know, he's a, he's a solid defender, really good bankers.
[00:30:26] Big series. Obviously Sam is, uh, you know, just a solid forward, get back there. He can put up a great defense. He's got a great two rod. That's again, that's a team, uh, that can beat, that can beat anybody. So I can, uh, I can attest that, uh, Sam, uh, was talking to him at the smash down last weekend and, uh, he double dipped myself and my partner in the, uh, the open finals, which was no big surprise necessarily. But anyway, um, I just talked to him briefly afterwards. I said, man, are you ready for the TKO?
[00:30:54] He said, you know, uh, and I noticed like when he was mopping us, uh, up at the end, uh, he was using different shots. He was using dinks and a few other things. Uh, he did a, uh, a monster, uh, push kick, monster push kick. Never saw it coming. Never saw him do it before. And when I, when I talked to him afterwards, I said, where'd that push kick come from? He goes, oh, I'm just doing that. You know, I just do that. I goof around at home when I'm practicing.
[00:31:24] Yeah. I practice my regular shots, but I really focus on just doing the things I don't normally do and try to put more, uh, put more time into those so I can use them when I need them. Um, yeah, that's good. That's see, that's what I mean. He's getting comfortable being uncomfortable. That's, that's, uh, yeah, that's a sign of somebody working their way up, Tom. Yep. Oh, his, his, uh, his wheels are turning, shall we say, uh, when he's playing and just, yeah, his, his, uh, his smoothness, he's very smooth.
[00:31:53] He's not as, I know, you know, watching him develop as a kid, he was always very mechanical and he was very good at what he did. But if you knew what he liked to do, uh, there was a way to get in front of him and, and, uh, and prevent him from scoring. But now all that's gone. Now it's smooth as glass. He's looking, he's looking, he's looking and he fires. Yeah. And it's, uh, you know, it's just, just that good. Uh, he's using his brain. He's using his brain now. That's scary. Yep. Yeah, exactly. Right.
[00:32:22] So that's glad I'm glad to see his, his maturity level has increased, you know, significantly too. Uh, he's just really, uh, as a, as a kid, he's just come a long way. 16 still 16 and a pro. So whether he turns pro master this year or not, it's hard to say. Pro. No, he's a, he's a top pro. Yeah. He's a top. He's, I think he's got like 4,500 points. You know, he's, it won't, if he's, if he keeps at it, it's not going to tell you, he'll probably be a master by the end of the year. Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha.
[00:32:52] Well, fingers crossed there for Sam. Um, next pairing, John Myers and Warren van landing ham. Okay. So Warren, uh, tech, Texas master. We've had more on the show. Yeah. Really, really great player. Good five, just kind of a stationary stick series. It's a rollover. Um, good singles player. Uh, good goalie. His, his goalie, uh, John actually played him, um, in Louisiana. I, I think he's a grossly underrated.
[00:33:22] Okay. Um, super nice guy. I got to talk to him a little bit. Um, but, uh, you know, just, he's got a good two rod. Yeah. Uh, just pretty steady defensively. Um, so, you know, I think he's a guy that, uh, if he can just get Warren some blocks and play smart, play smart foosball, which he's capable of. That's, uh, again, that's a team that can beat anybody. Right. Yeah. No, again, uh, Warren, what a great guy. And it was so much fun having him on the show.
[00:33:49] He just, uh, to me, super, super, you know, classy guy, you know, uh, and just well thought of in his, in his community for sure. Okay. Okay. Next. Well, how about this one? Mike, your. And Brandon Munoz. So yeah. Uncle Mike. Whatever. Next. Uncle Mike and, uh, and Brandon Munoz. Um, interesting pairing. And it's not the first time that they've played together like this.
[00:34:18] Yeah. They, they won Michigan last year. Um, so, you know, Brandon, Brandon's going to do Brandon things. It's just a matter of if, uh, if Mike can hold steady back there, he's more than capable. Uh, you know, he gets a little twitchy. So if he can just relax and, you know, get some blocks, clear the ball, play smart foosball, that's a, that's a championship caliber team. Oh yeah. No question about it. No question about it.
[00:34:48] I think that, um, Brandon, of course, uh, he basically speaks for himself and, and I, I got to wonder, you know, uh, I, I saw, uh, pictures of him on, on Facebook this week, playing in the snow. In, in, uh, in Louisiana. And, um, I'm not a hundred percent sure that he's actually had a chance to play in the snow before. He's probably never, he's probably never seen snow before in his life. But seem to be into it. So, uh, they probably had him out shoveling the walks and stuff and, uh, doing whatever,
[00:35:17] but, uh, don't, don't catch a cold, Brandon. Yeah. Don't get sick before the kickoff. Oh, that would not be good. Not be good. Nope. No. Nope. So, okay. Next is, is a pairing we've seen time and again, and they did such damage last year at the TKO. And I'm really curious to see how these guys do. Shannon Coley and Dewey Culpepper. Shannon and Doodoo. Yeah. So. Yeah. Shannon, Shannon turned master last year. Mm-hmm. Uh, him and Dewey played the kickoff.
[00:35:46] That was his first tournament as a master. Dewey had already been a master. Yep. They were in the, they were in the finals of open doubles. Yes. Um. They're very, very good. They have, they have very good chemistry. Oh yeah. Very, very good chemistry. Yep. Um, so tough, tough team. Um, you know, pride of Mississippi there, you know, Southern boys. I know both of these guys. I played with both of them. They're solid guys. I love both of these dudes. Yep.
[00:36:14] Uh, I'm rooting for them, uh, unless I'm playing against them. So, um, again, if, if, if, if, if Dewey, if Dewey can just do what Dewey does, and Shannon gets on a roll, because this is what I'm going to tell you about those guys. They're not scared of anybody. No, they are not scared of anybody. They're gamers. They're ballers. They want to play. They, they're not afraid of the, of table one. They're not afraid of people watching. They're not afraid of being in it.
[00:36:42] Uh, so, you know, that's a team, uh, that's a team you don't want to go against. Right. They thrive on the competition. They thrive. Yeah. They, they love it. They love it. They're all about it. So that's, uh, that's a contender right there. Proven. Hmm. So that's, it's, it's going to be fun to watch those guys, uh, do their thing. Oh yeah. Well, I got to say, uh, the next pairing, this is, uh, really interesting, uh, in the absence of, of, uh, of, I guess we could call them, uh, the Spraderman.
[00:37:11] Um, we have, uh, instead Rob Morris teaming up with Brandon Moreland. Okay. And so I want to know who's playing front. Me too. I would assume Rob's playing front. Okay. Uh, but again, they're both, both, both capable, both capable. Really solid in the goal. Really solid. Well, well, Rob, uh, multi-time world champion, hall of famer, uh, solid in both positions
[00:37:40] has won world championships in both positions. Brandon Moreland, one of the best goalies in the world, but obviously a great forward, um, a team that can easily win this event. Yeah. Easily. Oh yeah. Yeah. This is, if they're having a good weekend, you look out. Yeah. If they're, if, if they're clicking, uh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, we'll, uh, well, I, again, I wouldn't put any money on this one. I just, I just couldn't, uh, couldn't tell you. There's one team I'd put my money on Tom.
[00:38:11] One team. Okay. Well, uh, we're not done with the list yet. So let's go, let's finish the list. Then we'll see which, which, which team you're going to put money on. Um, next one is, um, Folsom and McCrory. So Matt McCrory. And is it Chris Folsom? Chris Folsom. Chris Folsom. Yep. Solid pro team. That's a, that's a 8,000 point team right there. Uh, upstate New York. Yes. And, uh, the heart of Georgia. Uh, my boy, Chris Peaches Folsom.
[00:38:41] So. Peaches. Peaches. Can we call them Peaches? Well, we played a tournament in Georgia last weekend. And instead of using our names, they had this idea of bringing back team names, which was pretty funny. That's great. And our, our team name was Peaches and Peaches and Chowda. No way. Peaches and Chowda. Okay. I immediately changed his name in my phone to Peaches. I love it. There. Well, he forever shall be known as Peaches. Peaches.
[00:39:11] Peaches. So Peaches, Peaches, Peaches just got to the, finals of open doubles in North Carolina. Yeah. Uh, you know, unfortunately my boy got double dipped by, uh, Brandon Munoz and, uh, and Davin. Got it. But, uh, Chris is a more than capable forward. Mm-hmm. Uh, Matt McCrory, a solid player in either position. Yeah. That is a, that, and again, two players that are not afraid to mix it up.
[00:39:36] Uh, I, that is a sleeper team that can beat any one of these other teams we've named. Yeah. No doubt. Wow. Wow. Okay. Um, well, I, I certainly have to, uh, I have to move on to this next one because it includes somebody we know pretty well. Uh, that would be Mike Philbrook. Yep. And Randy Raposo. And that's where I'd put my money right there. That's where you put your money. Okay. You're sure? Because I have, there's one more team to mention, but just saying.
[00:40:05] Them Boston boys right there. They're not scared. They'll, they'll, they'll take you out back and stab you. Oh, well, I've, I've seen Philbrook up close many, many times and man, this guy, what a forward. What a forward. Uh, there is no better left hook on that five row. There's no better left hook. He's, he's a giant killer. Uh, and, and I think for a lot of these younger master players, uh, they don't really know Mike Philbrook.
[00:40:33] They don't, you know, they might know his name, but they don't know his game. So, uh, you know, Mike, Mike is, uh, he's a guy that can do a lot of things really well. He's not scared. He's not, I mean, he's not scared to play anybody. Mike, Mike, he wants to get in there. Mike is solid. He is a master. Yep. I'm really excited to get the opportunity to play with Mike. We, we played together a few times years ago, uh, when I was just a much lesser player.
[00:40:57] Um, I'm, I'm really excited to get the opportunity and, um, I'm just looking forward to see, you know, what we can do. So it's going to be, it's going to be a tough field. It's going to be a tough tournament. Um, but I, I'm more than anything. I know this. We're going to have a good time. Oh yeah. Well, I, I, I'm rooting for you, but I'll be rooting for you, but you know, you know, you know, I'm on your team. Um, okay. There is one more team I got to mention here.
[00:41:25] So other than those, those that have not been announced, uh, this would be Tommy, your, and Eric Heldner. Yeah. They, they won last year. They won the kickoff last year. Uh, Tommy current reigning open doubles world champion. Um, Tommy had a really good year last year. He won a lot. Yes. Game improved. Uh, he played a lot of foosball. Eric, just one of the best goalies on tour. Oh yeah. Consistent. Yep.
[00:41:53] Um, that's, that's, would you put, would you put Eric Heldner in the top 10 best goalies of all time? Would you, would you say that he's, uh, qualified for that? Well, I mean, top 10 best goalies of all time. I'd have to think about goalies. I don't see why he wouldn't be. I mean, the dude, the only, I mean, he, he's one, I, he's won just about everything at a state level.
[00:42:19] Um, he, um, you know, has he won? I don't think he's won the hall of fame yet. I don't know. I think he's lacking a major title. Okay. I think he is. I, I don't remember, but, um, but I mean, as far as all the best players, he plays with all the best, but they all want to play with them. They didn't solid. Yeah. Solid. I mean, he's, he blocks, he's got, he's got good D. Yep. He's smart. He knows when to adjust, clears the ball, clears the ball. Well, you'll get your goal.
[00:42:50] Um, and, and I mean, Eric's just cool as hell. I like the guy. He's, he's just a cool dude. So, uh, it's a, it's a recipe for, for success. Um, and, and good goalies are hard to come by. I mean, if I were you, Tom, I chase them around and figure it out. So that way people can start asking you to play goal for them. Well, that would be something there. There's a, there's a few people to, uh, to observe. And Eric is one of those, man. I definitely want to. 100%. Top 10 goalies of all time.
[00:43:16] I mean, you know, a lot of people are going to, you know, again, when you, when you're talking seventies, eighties, nineties, two thousands, 2010s, and now we're in the twenties. I mean, we're talking 50 years of foosball. Yep. There are a lot of goalies, uh, that won world championships and major titles and, and people were like, oh, the forward, the forward, the forward. I think, I think the goalie position is drastically underrated. Oh, absolutely.
[00:43:42] I think, I think right now past five years, he's definitely like a top three, five goalie for sure. Yeah. No question. All, all time. Uh, that's, that's a tough question. It's time to figure that out. Right. You know, could be, I, yeah, I can't say, I can't say. He's got it easily another 15, 20 years in his, on his, uh, in his career. No doubt. Um, you know, if he continues to want to play, I mean, that's why wouldn't he? He's, um, he's a young guy. So, um, but yeah, I think Eric has definitely got the capability of being one of the top 10
[00:44:11] goalies of all time. Um, just, uh, just extraordinary. And you think about how many people have turned to him, um, you know, to, to play, you know, everybody from Spraydeman to, uh, to Ryan Moore have, have, uh, wanted him to, to be on their team. So that's, uh, I mean, Tom, Tommy, he's one with Tommy. He's one with Tony. Uh, he, you know, Billy asks, he plays with Billy. He, I mean, he, he's, uh, he's a pretty. He, he's a pretty well sought after goalie. Yep.
[00:44:39] So, uh, you know, I, he played with Terry, I think worlds not this year, last year, maybe it was his last year. I mean, he's, he's playing with the best forwards in the world. So you don't, you don't get those types of partners unless you're, you know, that caliber of player. So, um, that's, that's, uh, you know, Tommy, if Tommy's clicking and cause that's the thing when you have a forward, like Tommy, you only.
[00:45:05] You only have to do a few things well in order to, to be successful. And Eric does those things. Great. He doesn't do them. He doesn't great. So it makes it easy for, for them to win. Um, figuring out how to beat a team like that is, is, um, that's, that's what it takes. It's more than just playing good foosball. It's figuring out how to beat those guys. Um, and I think that's, uh, that's, what's going to be fun to watch Tom is who's going to figure it out.
[00:45:35] And, uh, recognizing too, I think, especially when you think about Tommy, your, um, if Eric can, can, uh, manage to just feed Tommy, if Tommy is on fire as he often is, uh, just feed Tommy and just keep that ball coming to him. Um, I mean, there's no reason why they couldn't do this. No reason. Yeah. I hope not. I hope not. Uh, you know, uh, but we'll see. It's going to be, it's going to be fun.
[00:46:02] So, uh, it's, uh, I got to ask you the question now because you're, you're, you're in it, man. You're, you're in the mix. Um, what is going through your mind? What are you doing to prep for your, uh, for the big moment here coming up this next week? Um, so, um, unfortunately I've been working a lot. Um, and, uh, you know, whether in Alabama, it's a little different than in the Northeast, obviously, like I said, next week, it's going to be 65. February is coming up in a week.
[00:46:31] Um, I've got, uh, I've got two listings coming up. So my day job's been crazy. And now, you know, real estate as the weather turns typically by March, it's like, it feels like spring and, uh, real estate tends to pick up. So I've been super busy, but what I usually do before a tournament, um, is I just watch a lot. Okay. Um, cause I, I play, I touch, I mean, my table is right behind me. I touch my table every day, every, every day, even days when I work 12 or 14 hours, I come home, I come in here.
[00:47:01] And even if I just shoot three or four balls, I take a couple of minutes and just do a couple of like ball control drills to feel the table. I'll do that. But, um, typically a week or two before a tournament, I just, um, I, what I call it is I, I starve myself. I'm foos starved. So that way, when I, when I get to the tournament, I'm hungry to play. And, uh, because, you know, we've all made the mistake of overplaying and then getting to
[00:47:30] the tournament and just, just being flat, right? Like you, you, you peak, you're playing your best foosball before you get there. You get there and you're flat. Right. And I don't want, like, I want to be playing my best foosball, you know, during the tournament Saturday afternoon at five o'clock, man, I want to be playing my best foosball and I want to carry that through the weekend. Um, so right now I'm just doing, you know, 10 minutes of touches and, uh, and then I'm
[00:47:58] just watching, I'm watching video and, uh, and just thinking about it. Like I'm, I'm really mentally preparing yourself. Yeah. I'm trying to just get focused to, to go there and just, uh, be consistent and make good decisions and be in the moment. Okay. I thought, and, and, and of course I, you know, getting to see my buddies and hang out and, uh, getting to hang out with you and talk to foosball. So that's, uh, that's it, man. I'm excited. I can't wait. We're going to be, we're going to be all over that place. Yeah. Just hang it out.
[00:48:27] Um, it is such a thing that, that, uh, you know, looking forward to, like you say, getting together with old friends and, uh, being, being in a place where the, with every other, every other person who's there has the same sort of passion and, uh, is there because of that same reason. And of course the added bonus this year, the very first edition of the world foosball tour. Uh, yeah. Just the new format. What's, you know, what, what's it going to look like? Like everybody's really curious about this and I want to see this room, Tom.
[00:48:56] I want to see the room. I want to see the setup. I want to see the bleachers. Like, ah, dude, I can't wait, man. I cannot wait. Gotta walk the floor. I'm so excited to just get in there and walk around. I, uh, I want to see Ryan, man. I just, I just honestly, I just want to give the dude a hug and say thank you for all his hard work and everything he's doing. And, uh, you know, I got buddies, I got buddies coming down from Massachusetts. Excellent. I always love, I always love seeing my boys. Um, Chris Amaral's coming. Matthew Contois is coming. Yes.
[00:49:26] Uh, Bruce Welton's coming. And then I got a guy, uh, my buddy, Tony Cabral, he's coming down. He's, uh, Tony just, Tony just started getting back into it. He used to play years ago. He actually won beginner singles. Uh, maybe Ohio state. Okay. He's been, he's been, he's been poking around, but, uh, yeah, yeah. But he's going to be at the kickoff, man. I'm telling you, you guys, if you can't go, man, it sucks for you. But this is, this is going to be, it's going to be, I'm, I'm looking forward to seeing everybody and just hanging out. Uh, I'm going to go eat some barbecue.
[00:49:56] There's a barbecue place like 10 minutes away called red state barbecue. Best brisket you've ever had. Yeah. Um, you know, I have to, uh, have to sample. I'm Tom, I'm telling you, man, I get, I get so hyped up. I'm just, I'm so hyped up for this thing, dude. I can't wait. Is it, would it be crass of me to say that, uh, I do have a pro, uh, pro partner, uh, for pro doubles, but I'm looking for an expert and an amateur doubles partner. Throw it out there. Throw it out there. I guess I just did. Yeah. Throw it out there.
[00:50:24] Look, I can, I can set, I can set you up for amateur doubles if you want, but you got to play forward. I got to play forward. Word? Yeah. Oh, wow, man. It's, uh, I wouldn't want to do that to somebody. Uh, I mean, you got to do it sometime. Yeah. I suppose, I suppose, you know, it's, uh, it would be, uh, it would be interesting. I have to say. What about, what about rookie doubles? Who are you playing rookie doubles with? I really hadn't considered doing rookie doubles. It's, um, it, I would, but I hadn't really thought about it much.
[00:50:50] Um, it's, uh, I guess it's, it's, it's, I'm trying to keep my events lower and my participation otherwise higher, but I would, I would consider. And when does working doubles start by the way? When is the. Oh, Tom. I don't know, buddy. I look, this is what I'm going to tell you. Open doubles is Saturday. I think at like one o'clock and I think pro doubles is Sunday around the same time. And that's all I care about. Okay. I'm playing two events.
[00:51:16] I know pro, uh, Oh, pro singles is Friday at five. Right. And, uh, I am not playing. So, uh, I, so I've been, I've been the past, like three, since worlds, worlds, Michigan, Louisiana, I've played good on Saturday and not so good on Sunday. Uh-huh. And, um, I talked to, I talked to my coach about it. I talked to Dana Marr, uh, and Dana, I love Dana. Dana's been amazing.
[00:51:45] Anybody looking for foosball coaching, reach out to Dana Marr. He's the man. The guy, he's brilliant. We got to get him back on the show, by the way. Yeah, we can do that. I talked to Dana. We get him back on. Um, but I think it's just a matter of, um, energy conservation. I don't do it. I don't do enough sitting. Right. I'm always, I'm playing, playing, and then I'm moving, moving. And I don't conserve enough energy.
[00:52:13] And on Sunday, and that's the thing, once your legs go, you're just, you can't do nothing. So by Sunday, you know, Sunday afternoon, I'm just, I'm, I'm just a big old sack of poop. So, um, you know, we, I gotta, I, I'm gonna, I'm at this tournament. I'm really going to try to focus on conserving my energy. Cool. Um, and see if it makes a difference. Dude, I'm, I'm telling you, man, like this, this tournament is going to be, look, this, this tour, the world's foosball tour.
[00:52:41] I think it's going to be, uh, I think it's going to be amazing. It's going to be a great, great time for foosball. Yeah. So yeah. Yeah. No question about it. No, it's, uh, we're, uh, just, it's the anticipation. It's like Christmas morning, man. You know, you just, you don't know what's under the tree yet, but you're going to find it and you know, it's going to be good. You know, it's going to be good. So listen, I don't, I don't give a crap if I got a lump of coal in my stock and I'm still excited, dude. I'm going to be there. I can't wait. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. We're, we're, uh, we're suckers for a great weekend. There's no doubt about that. Yeah, man. Yeah, for sure.
[00:53:11] Well, you know, here's to, uh, to safe travels. You're, you're driving, I assume. A hundred percent. Of course. Of course. And, uh, my, my adventures in the air just continue. So I'm, yes, I'm flying as well. Let's go. I just never know what's going to happen next. Uh, it's always a, a, a pleasure to figure out how, how much can the airline screw it up? But anyway, just saying. And, uh, you know, I love it when, you know, you plan on landing at say like on a Friday night at 10, oh, I'm going to get there at 10 o'clock.
[00:53:41] I can get set up. I can maybe play some pickups before, you know, I pass out. And then I ended up getting there at four in the morning. Let's go. Just saying, you know, your whole weekend just starts off like doo doo. That sucks. Yep. Wrong foot. Uh, wrong foot. Yeah, it's no good. It's, uh, it's happened, but what are you going to do? Uh, well, I can tell you what I'm going to do. Uh, I'm going to work this week and come Friday, I'm going to start to probably not feel well.
[00:54:10] Oh, I'm going to get sick. Uh, and then, yeah, I'm going to get sick of work, Tom. That's what's going to happen. So I'm going to cut out and I'm going to drive six hours to Lexington and I'm going to play foosball. And then Monday, I'm going to be real sick, sick enough to not be able to go to work. You're not looking good already. A little green around the gills. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll feel good. Yeah. But I'm going to be, I'm going to be, yeah, I'm going to be tired from winning.
[00:54:40] That's how it works. That's how it works. Yep. That's the plan. It's, I mean, I listen either way, whatever's going to happen. I'm, I know I'm going to have a good time and that's all, that's all that matters. And just to, just to let you know, you know, we are going to be broadcasting foos talk live episode number 240 will take place on the site at the Clarion hotel during the world foosball tour, tour kickoff. And man, we're going to make it a good one. Plain and simple. You know? Yeah. Can't wait. Can't wait. Don't miss a moment.
[00:55:08] And inside, of course, the, the, the guys from modern foos will be taken over with, with, with all the streaming. You'll get a lot of coverage. If you can't be there, shame on you, but Hey, you can still watch it on YouTube. And I believe it's also Twitch TV. They're, they're doing it free. So free to charge. You get a chance to see the coverage and man, it's going to be amazing.
